Annie Leibovitz at Work 17 reviews Annie Leibovitz
Random House, 2008
Great insight If you're trying to find a book to learn photographic technique move on! Nothing to see here. If however you want an insight into the work of a great photographer this is a great autobiography.
Easy, relaxed reading, with very little technical stuff. Still very inspirational.
Shares much of the text with Annie Leibovitz: Life Through a Lens but the book is more focused on the work (as the ...

A fantastic book in these hard times! Our 25-year-old daughter, who just graduated from college in Dec, got this book from her grandmother. She has been reading it cover-to-cover and loves it. Even her friends are borrowing it from her. As a recent December graduate in these hard economic times -- it has been a real boost to her. Very motivational and inspiring! I hear excerpts from it from her daily!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Japanese Edition 5434 reviews J.K. Rowling, 2000
Super! "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" Apparently, I am the 5434th person to leave a review. I will try to keep it short.
I am a retired older person and, ten years ago, I bought a copy of the previous edition for myself and my wife and a second copy for my, then, eight-year-old step granddaughter and her eleven-year-old brother. We, each, enjoyed the story tremendously. We have followed ...

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules 121 reviews Jeff Kinney
Amulet Books, 2008
Rodrick sucks! This is the second book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Our "hero" Gregory Heffley, is a year older, but no wiser or more mature. The diary format continues, although Greg would prefer the term "journal". A lot of really funny things happen in this book. If you're a kid, or just a kid at heart, you should really enjoy this book.

Effective Java Programming Language Guide 120 reviews
Pearson Education (USA), 2007
Great Guide I am only about half way through this book and already have learned numerous things about the design of Java as a language and about proper usage of said language. This book is going to be a staple in my programming library and a book recommended to anyone I know working with Java. I am also looking forward to the second edition which is slated to be released in May sometime.

Joy of Cooking: 75th Anniversary Edition - 2006 170 reviews Irma S. Rombauer, Marion Rombauer Becker, ...
Scribner, 2006
Joy of Cooking, 75th anniversary I've had three or four Joys of Cooking before this one, all were stained,
written on, dogeared before I bought another one. I have bought many for gifts.
I really like this edition best of all--- why? Because of the index.
Cookbooks have always been notoriuosly difficult to index, according to my niece, the indexer.
In fact I enjoy reading the index, actually.

Car Talk 5 reviews Tom Magliozzi, Ray Magliozzi
Dell, 1991
This book should be given out along with driver's licenses I wish I had this book ten years ago. The best $10 you can spend on your car. You should have this book if you have a new car, if you only drive your parents' car, if you have never owned a car and are about to buy one, or like me, if your car has been trouble-free and is now starting to act up. It's useful, it makes complete sense, and is very funny too. I plowed through it in about two ...

The Far Side At last the complete Far Side collection is contained in one set. Every cartoon drawn by Gary Larson is included herein. Far Side fans will revel in the fact that they no longer have to pour through old microfilm versions of local newspapers at libraries to find all the off the wall, bizarre humor of cxavemen in outhouses, or bears, cows, sheep all behaving like nerdy humans, or any of the ...

The American Patriot's Almanac: Daily Readings on America 23 reviews William J. Bennett, John Cribb
Thomas Nelson, 2008
Historical Treasure The American Patriot's Almanac is a beautiful testimony to the history of the United States.
In school, history was boring and tedious. Not with this book. It would make a great history book for students and adults alike. It is filled with historical stories and they are linked to the each day of the year. It can be an additional devotional to your library.

The Dangerous Book for Boys 640 reviews Conn Iggulden, Hal Iggulden
Collins, 2007
Very Good Book For Pre-Teen Boys! Highly Recommended! We gave "The Dangerous Book for Boys" to my son (11) last year because he had friends who were reading it. It was one of the few reasonable things on his Christmas list and it seemed like a good gift for our academically minded boy who spends more time inside than outside. This was a huge hit! Not only did he love reading it, but I also really enjoyed most of the chapters as well.
The book ...

The Associated Press Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law 25 reviews Norm Goldstein
Basic Books, 2007
Good reference aid for a community newspaper I work as a columnist and newspaper staff writer. The book helps our weekly community newspaper maintain consistency and a professional appearance. We are a tabloid paper serving a bi-county area in central Kentucky. I would highly recommend this for any person who writes for a newspaper, or any student of journalism. There are a lot of books out there on newpapers, but this is probably the gold ...

Remember Me 136 reviews Christopher Pike
Topeka Bindery, 2002
No "The Last Vampire", but still amazing! First let me say that this book, in my opinion, is a 4 1/2 stars. This is by no means Christopher Pike's best book, which would be "The Last Vampire", no doubt.
Christopher Pike has an incredible talent and precision for details. I love the way he can make the smallest of detail into a major part of the plot, an excellent technique... especially in a murder mystery.
This book had everything in ...

The Return of Depression Economics and the Crisis of 2008 10 reviews Paul Krugman
W. W. Norton, 2008
Eye-opener Although the title makes the book sound dismal, Krugman's book is actually an enjoyable read. The author goes out of his way to avoid a dry, stuffy tone. Instead, he tells simple stories, like the one about the baby co-op in Washington, which he uses repeatedly throughout the book to explain progressively more complex ideas.
For me, the biggest eye-opener offered by this book is Krugman's ...

Knit Two 8 reviews Kate Jacobs
Putnam Adult, 2008
Another surprise from Kate! Kate Jacobs gives us another great read with another twist.
I enjoyed getting to know more about each character and how they were doing after the loss of Georgia. I was glad that the book did not dwell too heavily on her character being gone but instead shows how people go on with living after the loss of a loved one. Definitely one for my collection.

Very entertaining! I had never heard of the Sookie Stackhouse books until I began watching the HBO series True Blood. Now I've read all 8 novels within a few months. See and Experience Football Through Frank Gifford's Eyes If you love pro football, this is a must read.
If you ever watched Frank Gifford on Monday Night Football, you know that he showed a respect and love for football that separated him from the others who shared the broadcasting booth with him.
