Great book
The book was very well written and you could actually put yourself in some of the incidents that happened through her life. It is very hard to belief that this discrimination happened in our country less that 75 years ago. Great read.

A unique, informative, and highly recommended addition
One of the tragic consequences of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 was the panicked reaction of the American government resulting in the forcible relocation of the Japanese Americans into internment camps for the duration of the war years. "In Defense Of Our Neighbors: The Walt And Milly Woodward Story" is the true and personal account of a husband and wife who used the ...

Mochizuki, K. (1993). Baseball Saved Us. New York. LEE & LOW BOOKS. The story of "Shorty" and his family living at an interment camp during WWII can be used when teaching students about war, especially WWII. Younger students can relate to the character of "Shorty" and his struggles with fitting in and the hardships he feels among peers. Older students can debate the equality issues and the ...

A Great Addition to WWII Literature
This is another superb work by author Citino, although the publisher's editor did a poor job of filtering out typos and spelling mistakes. Nonetheless, I recommend this book to any person who wishes to understand why the Germans were able to do so well, so many times, throughout World War II. This book should be read AFTER reading Citino's "Path To Blitzkrieg" and "The German Way Of War" ...

In the wake of the Red Army's signal victory at Stalingrad, which began when its surprise counteroffensive encircled German Sixth Army in Stalingrad region in mid-November 1942 and ended when its forces liquidated beleaguered Sixth Army in early February 1943, the Soviet High Command (Stavka) expanded its counteroffensive into a full-fledged winter offensive which nearly collapsed German defenses in southern Russia. Nostalgic
This is a wonderful book to evoke those bygone memories. The pictures bring back so many memories from my own childhood years. The writing just ties it all together and transports you back in time. It stimulates thoughts and feelings from a simpler and slower paced time. Very enjoyable. Makes for good conversation with family and friends from the past! Loved It!!!!!!!!!

an importance lesson in memory
In the first illustration we see two typically Californian homes with cars in their driveways. One has a "For Sale" sign on its front steps. Emi, a second grader, sits and waits. Her father has been sent to a prison camp in Montana, and soon the FBI will take her, her sister, and her mother to a detention center and then to a detention camp in Utah. Emi and her family are Japanese Americans ...

An Excellent Look into the Dynamics of Carrier Warfare
The epic duel in the Pacific Ocean in 1942 between the carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Kido Butai (Mobile Force) and the carriers of the United States Navy makes for dramatic history and this story is told with great verve and insight by Commander (ret.) Mark Stille. USN Carriers vs IJN Carriers is the sixth volume in Osprey's new Duel series and readers need not fear that this is a ...

The monumental battles of World War II's Eastern Front - Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk - are etched into the historical record. But there is another, hidden history of that war that has too often been ignored in official accounts.Boris Gorbachevsky was a junior officer in the 31st Army who first saw front-line duty as a rifleman in the 30th Army. "Through the Maelstrom" recounts his three harrowing years on some of the war's grimmest but forgotten ...

The most compelling book I have ever read
Because my friends all know what a book-hound I am, people often ask me what my all-time favorite book is. Admittedly the answer to this would change over time, but, at present, "I Will Bear Witness" is the one that first pops into my mind. I found this very personal account of the days and nights of a German Jewish man--an inoffensive and formerly rather conservative German nationalist ...

Interesting
This book traces the units and men who won the Knights Cross of the Waffen SS during the period of 1933 - 1942 and also covers the formation of each individual unit the holders were assigned too. It gives a thumbnail sketch first of the campaign where the units of the Waffen SS were involved with, some nice maps detailing the advance axis of these divisons and where they were when the men won ...

Up for a challenge
I am in love with this book! Weedflower is about a twelve year old Japanese-American girl named Sumiko. Her parents died when she was little so she lived with her Aunt, Uncle, Grandfather and cousins. They raise a flower farm until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and they had to go live in a war camp in Poston, Arizona. This book is a serious book, but it has a bit of humor. I would say that this is a ...

5 Star Sniper Masterpiece Novel
I do not give 5 star ratings to many books but this novel set in the ruins of Stalingrad definitely deserves the max rating. It is Red supersniper against Nazi supersniper in a battle that can only end one way. Vasiley Zaitsev is running a local sniper school right in Stalingrad during the height of the struggle for control of this non-strategic value city that Stalin and Hitler chose to wrestle ...

Well Written Operational Account of the Siege
The original plans for the Barbarossa Operation did not call for the seizure of the Crimean Peninsula. Things changed quickly when on July 13, six Soviet bombers based in the Crimea attacked the Romanian oil fields in Ploesti. Within a week, 11,000 tons of precious fuel went up in flames. Hitler and the German Army Staff soon viewed the Crimean Peninsula as an aircraft carrier aimed directly ...

A worthwhile addition to any World War II library
Probably the last Medal of Honor winner of World War II to write his biography, Marine pilot Colonel Jefferson J DeBlanc died in Lafayette, Louisiana in 2007. This is a fine personal narrative from one of the last of the great generation. DeBlanc was born in 1921 in Lockport, Louisiana, and died in his native Louisiana in 2007. In between he packed several lifetimes. He learned to fly at age ...

A History Book That Delivers What The Movie Couldn't
I was rather surprised that the authors make no mention of the actual prime source for the Battle of Midway that most Americans carry around in their heads: the 1976 film, "Midway." With familiar names like Henry Fonda, Glenn Ford, Robert Mitchum, Hal Holbrook and Charlton Heston, the film reinforces the popular wisdom that an under gunned American Naval task force, on June 5, 1942, surprised the ...

Amazing!
I just finished this book and I've got to say it was the most sincere and vivid book I have read in a long time. Readers with open mind will greatly enjoy "Obasan" and will be glad that they bought it. I strongly recommend this book. PS I, just like others, read this book for school. It is very important that children understand this book because it hides a lot of life lessons among its ...
