RF Engineering for Wireless Networks: Hardware, Antennas, and Propagation5 reviews

Newnes, 2004

Wireless without the hype
Dan Dobkin has managed to encompass in this book information that most people would take 15 to 20 years to learn. This book is useful not only for engineers researching wireless networks but also for the engineer/student that needs to understand the fundamentals of all aspects of radio systems. This really is a reference book to keep on the shelf ! The section on Antennas is particularly ...

Real 802.11 Security: Wi-Fi Protected Access and 802.11i16 reviews
Jon Edney, William A. Arbaugh

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2003

Top Notch
Outstanding book, not just for wireless security but for encryption in general. Very clear explanations, chapter on why WEP failed is the best explanation I have read. Also very clear on how EAP, TLS, TKIP, WAP and the rest of the protocol soup relate to each other. I even appreciated the attempts at humor - my style, a bit dry.

CWNA: Certified Wireless Network Administrator Study Guide (Exam PW0-100)23 reviews
David A. Westcott

Sybex, 2006

Great Book!
After taking a class given by David Westcott I decided to buy his book. I am so glad I did. I went from working in the wireless field for three years and not being certified to reading his book and two months later becoming a CWNA. This book is just very easy to understand. They use alot of analogies to help you get the point of what they are trying to teach. If you have ever read a Cisco press ...

Essential Guide to Wireless Communications Applications, The (2nd Edition) (Essential Guide Series)5 reviews
Andy Dornan

Prentice Hall PTR, 2002

Right on the money!
Unlike alot of other books out there, the title of this book is right on the money when it comes to the content of the book. This book IS an essential guide to wireless communications. Like many other people out there, I often read the online articles and technical editorials of Mr. Dornan (do a web search, they are great reading too!). So I thought I could not go wrong with his book. I was ...

Going Wi-Fi: A practical guide to planning and building an 802.11 network5 reviews
Janice Reynolds

CMP Books, 2003

Everything You Want to Know!
I'm a technology consultant for a Wi-Fi company, so I'm interested in books that go beyond how to set up a nice network in your home or connect to the hotspot at your local café. I've researched quite a few books and while many offer insights into Wi-Fi, this is finally a book that offers the depth and coverage that I need. The book covers the entire spectrum of information (pardon the ...

Cisco Wireless LAN Security7 reviews, ...

Cisco Press, 2008

Excellent Resource for Any WLAN Administrators
The four authors of Cisco Wireless LAN Security do an excellent job of striking a balance between writing concise enough that the book is not overwhelming, but detailed enough for the reader to truly understand the subject matter. Not an easy task. The book is titled Cisco Wireless LAN Security, which might actually make some people shy away from it, but the Cisco part is a bit of a misnomer. ...

Wi-Fi Handbook : Building 802.11b Wireless Networks10 reviews
Frank Ohrtman, Konrad Roeder

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2003

It definitely earns its five stars
I recently bought this book after I borrowed it from my local library. I tried to find it a second time, and it's always checked-out in all four branches of our library system. The call number is 004.678 OHR. Out of all the 802.11 books, this is one that is the most packed with the real information you need to install an 802.11 network - antenna theory, how to do site surveys, how networks ...

Wi-Fi Hotspots2 reviews

Cisco Press, 2006

Excellent Overview
This book is perfectly focused on the intention of setting Public Wi-Fi Hotspots. By this I mean that the book doesn't load you down with all the technical details of how wireless networks work, but instead dives right into the business/organizational benefits of running such a network as a hotspot. There is a very brief chapter at the end that gives an overview of RF or wireless signals ...

Astonishing But True Golf Facts2 reviews
Allan Zullo

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2001

Astonishing but true enjoyment
As a golfer, I've read probably a hundred books about golf. But I've never read one that tickled me or touched me more than this one. It has everything an avid golfer could want from a book. Only a round with Tiger could be more fun or more inspiring. A must read for the linksman!

Advanced Ethernet/802.3 Management and Performance4 reviews
Bill Hancock

Digital Press, 1995

Easy to follow yet complete
I was fortunate enough to attend a class taught by Dr. Hancock with this book as one of the texts. I have referred to it many times since then, and have always found the info to be very useful. It is written in an easy to follow manner, and never goes into a lot of unnecessary technical jargon. I would highly recommend this book as a basic-to-intermediate intro to Ethernet networks, no matter ...

The Basics of 802.11 Wireless LANs (Basics Books series)1 review
Frank M. Groom, Kevin M. Groom, ...

International Engineering Consortium, 2005

Good book - price is only drawback
I found this book to fill a very overlooked niche, one that I think will be growing in tandem with the wireless market. This book provides a solid conceptual/technical overview of WLAN technology. It does so in a very brief, but clearly organized and adequately detailed amount of space. I consider this a niche book because it provides a bridge for networking engineers/technicians to understand ...

Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference3 reviews

Cisco Press, 2008

Excellent Quick Reference
The Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference book by Toby J, Velte, PH.D. and Anthony T. Velte, has pretty much everything you would want to know about wireless networking using Cisco Systems Aironet devices. I was thinking this book would just contain quick commands on configuring access points, configuring Cisco Aironet Wireless cards and so on, boy was I wrong. Cisco 802.11 ...

802.1X Port-Based Authentication1 review

AUERBACH, 2006

Great book on 802.1x!
I work for a network test equipment developer and have to test devices with multiple security types by multiple security device vendors. Most all enterprise security uses 802.1x whether wired or wireless. To many, 802.1x can be confusing at best, and mind-blowing at its worst. Edwin Brown's book is the best I read on the subject. It's a book that explains the concepts that are the ...
