A Mother's Journey5 reviews
Linda Dillow

WaterBrook Press, 1998

This book helped me through the loss of my mother.
As my mother was spending her final month or so fighting breast cancer, I gave her this book for Mother's Day. I wanted her to know what I felt and this book said it in the most beautiful way. After I lost my Mother about 6 weeks later, I had the opportunity to share it with her loved ones when I read it at her funeral. What a touching tribute.

Sandra Markle

Charlesbridge Publishing, 2006

Grandparents Delight
Reading a book together is a great way to share a special time with a grandchild. But when a grandchild enjoys the book enough to ask for it again, then you're sharing a memory--a book you can remember loving together. A Mother's Journey is one of those books. I've now also given it as gifts to my friends who are grandparents. DON'T MISS IT!

Miles from the Sideline: A Mother's Journey With Her Special Needs Daughter4 reviews
Maura Weis, Jessica Trobaugh Temple

Sorin Books, 2008

Inspiring and heartwarming
In the last 5 years I've read as many books as possible on autism and cerebral palsey... as one of my boys is autistic, and the other has CP. Some books lay claims to "curing" these disorders, others walk you through how to deal with schools and therapists... Maura Weis' book walks you through her families journey so incredibly honest and real, that I felt by the end of the book that I, too, ...

Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism283 reviews
Jenny McCarthy

Plume, 2008

Inspiring!
I have spent many many hours in the UofG (University of Google) and could relate to this book 100% I could not put it down and finished it in a few hours. My son does not have any diagnosis at this point and may or may not have autism, but it gives so much hope for the future. Alternative medicines have been overlooked by the medical community for so long, I love that this book opens people's ...

Come Back: A Mother and Daughter's Journey Through Hell and Back (P.S.)81 reviews
Claire Fontaine, Mia Fontaine

Harper Perennial, 2008

Memorable and inspiring
This book was recommended to me by a friend because I have a past similar to Mia's and it did more to help me understand and overcome it than ten years of therapy (though my friend had a really normal childhood and loved the book as well). The writing is absolutely beautiful, very honest and powerful. Definitly a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

Mother Rising: The Blessingway Journey into Motherhood1 review
Yana Cortlund, Barb Lucke, ...

Celestial Arts, 2006

Full of ideas!
I created a unique and beautiful blessingway for my dear friend with this book. It lists several ideas for different stages and types of blessingways. It gives a little history as well. What I liked best about the book is that it left the blessingway up to me to plan, there was no rigged 'this is the way it must be done'. It also was written for any religious belief system to create a ...

The Mother Of All Journeys1 review

Dewi Lewis Publishing, 2007

Re-constructing memories and family history through photography
My fingers lingered over the fabric cover as I pulled the book out of a pile. On the cover, the eyes of a family in an old black-and-white family photo peered out, superimposed on top of a modern color image of the same photo studio. Flipping through the pages I realized that this is much more than a book of random family scrapbook images. This is a deliberate re-construction of one immigrant's ...

Hope for the Autism Spectrum: A Mother and Son Journey of Insight and Biomedical Intervention4 reviews
Sally Kirk

Jessica Kingsley Pub, 2008

GREAT, LOOKING FOR INFO ON BIOMEDICAL, THIS IS IT
I have read practically every biomedical book out there on autism for my little boy. Most of my books find new homes. This book will be on my shelf for a long time. If you have read Dr. Kenneth Bock book on autism and Dr Mccandles book you know they are good and this one is right up there with them. I felt the first part of the book was a little drawn out. The last part of the book has a ...

Love, Ellen: A Mother/Daughter Journey29 reviews
Betty Degeneres

Harper Paperbacks, 2000

A Must for All Family Members of Queer Individuals
I cannot stress how much this book has changed my life. When I first came out of the closet, it was obvious that while my mother was trying to accept this, she was having a hard time of it. After reading only the introduction to this book, I raced to her room and asked her to read it. My mother is an incredibly busy woman, and I have given her many books to read over the years. This is the ...

Surrendered Child: A Birth Mother's Journey (Association of Writers and Writing Programs Award for Creative ...7 reviews
Karen Salyer McElmurray

University of Georgia Press, 2006

Give it Up
She was barely fifteen. She was scared and full of Jesus and her baby. She had faith in the sacrament of marriage but that let her down. She was raised by a germophobiac Appalachian mother who surely thought cleanliness was next to godliness. In that way, her mother tried to save her daughter. After that, her daughter saved her son by giving him up for adoptiion in a system of adoption that ...

Two Lands, One Heart: An American Boy's Journey to His Mother's Vietnam by Jeremy Schmidt and Ted Wood -- what a gorgeous book for anyone interested in Vietnam, the refugee experience, the going back to your native land or family's homeland! Searching for Mercy Street: My Journey Back to My Mother, Anne Sexton8 reviews
Linda Gray Sexton

Little Brown & Co (P), 1996

captivating, enthralling
I actually read this book while it was in production -- I was on the proofreading team for the publisher's typesetter -- and the entire team was enthralled by this book. Work is work, and usually we would would deal with the task at hand, but on breaks and over lunch, many of us working on this book would have mini-sessions about the author, her mother, the context of the relationship. We all ...

A Mother's Plea: Journey Into The Light1 review
Anthony Bus

Marian Press, 2005

A Catholic Best Seller
I am happy to say this book changed my life. Fr. Anthony Bus has written a touching and sincere book chronicling his struggle to be a priest and a man in today's world. His writing shines with tenderheartedness, simplicity and honesty, and yet it reads like a good action story full of plot twists and drama. The fact that it has become a "Catholic Best-seller" is a testament to how hungry people ...

Love, Mom: A Mother's Journey From Loss to Hope8 reviews
Cynthia Baseman

AuthorHouse, 2006

Very real, thoughtful - only someone who has been through this could write something so powerful
I bought this book and could not put it down. I lost my son at 38 weeks this past July 4 days before he was to be born. Needless to say my world as I knew it was gone for awhile. It is the most devastating thing to have to go through in life. I also feel what is devastating is the feelings of other people letting you down while you are grieving. In Cynthia's book she told her story like it ...

Remembering Mother, Finding Myself: A Journey of Love and Self-Acceptance9 reviews
Patricia Commins

HCI, 1999

Truly a blessing
What a blessing this book has been for me! My mother passed away recently after a long illness. Our relationship was often turbulent and my childhood and teen years were sometimes difficult. I spent a lot of my time being angry with her but this book really opened my eyes as to the struggle my mother had just with trying to survive on a day to day basis. I saw my mother in this book and ...

A Daughter's Touch: A Journey of a Mother Trying to Come to Terms with Postpartum Depression2 reviews
Sylvia M. Lasalandra

Quattro M Publishing, 2005

A story of consequences and hope
While it is important for the public to understand the signs, symptoms and risk factors of pregnancy related mood disorders, nothing sends a more compelling message, or inspires sufferers to reach out for help and know they are not alone than a true story of courage, bravery and survival. Sylvia Lasalandra's story powerfully illustrates the suffering, stigma and lack of resources available to ...
