Jessie Wise, Sara Buffington

W. W. Norton & Company, 2004

Happy Homeschooling Mom
After recently reading The Well-Trained Mind, I immediately checked this book out from the library which was suggested for teaching your child to read. Once reviewing the book I ordered it from Amazon. I am homeschooling my 5 year old son. I am a certified teacher, but at times feel inadequate about teaching my own child. This book provides a strong, systematic phonics approach to teaching ...

Babies With Down Syndrome: A New Parent's Guide (The Special-Needs Collection)26 reviews

Woodbine House, 1995

Understand ALL the issues
I read this book from table of contents to index when I found out I was expecting a baby with Down syndrome. Unlike other parents I was riveted to the possible medical concerns. I wanted to know what was coming down the pike as much as possible. Some expectant parents are like that and deserve to be respected. Second, the parent comments in this book were honest and honesty can be sadly ...

Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parent's Guide: How to Make Safe, Sensible Decisions about the Risks, Benefits, ...24 reviews
Aviva Jill Romm

Healing Arts Press, 2001

Good Research, Poor Conclusion
Aviva has loads of well documented studies that say one thing, vaccines do not work. If you do any bit of thorough research on vaccines, you will see that they do more harm than good. Aviva's book contains that research, so what's the problem? Her conclusion. After heaps of evidence about how harmful, or infective vaccines are, Aviva does not speak out against them, but rather says ...

A Parent's Guide to Gifted Children12 reviews
James T. Webb, Janet L. Gore, ...

Great Potential Press, 2007

Not out of print
This is a comprehensive book for anyone who has a gifted child. It is also appropriate for anyone who works with gifted children (teachers, psychologists, etc.). Amazon incorrectly lists this book as 'Out of Print'. It is not. It is available on the Barnes & Noble website, the Borders website, the publisher's website, etc. The only place it is not available, apparently, is Amazon.

Excellent resource for families and schools
There are many books on the topic of gifted and talented children as it relates to their education and needs. However, I found this book addressed the gifted child from many different aspects. It touched upon their academic and social-emotional needs. It provides parents with great insight into these children in terms of how they think, characteristics that are common and the dangers of ...

Helpful guide to those with multiple food allergies
I found out my two-year-old son had a severe allergy to peanuts, but also lesser food allergies to milk, soy, eggs and wheat. After pulling my hair out wondering what to feed my son, I started looking for books and cookbooks on the topic. This is both, and it's great. Out of all the books I've bought, I like this one best. It has the most real-life recipes, using practical substitutes. If you or ...

this book can only be described as awesome! It was easy to read, had case studies, stats., and referred to actual cases encountered in the author's practice. This book makes so much SENSE. What in the World Do You Do When Your Parents Divorce? A Survival Guide for Kids2 reviews
Kent Winchester, Roberta Beyer, ...

Free Spirit Publishing, 2001

Very helpful
I bought this book for my son who is 9. He didn't understand why we divorced or anything about it. He loves this book. He said it made him feel so much better. I think it is great how it has other children's views written throughout the book. My son felt he was feeling the same way as the other kids, and he knew it was ok. Great book for anyone with a curious child who doesn't understand.
