Increase Your Score In 3 Minutes A Day: ACT Reading (Increase Your Score)3 reviews
Randall McCutcheon, James Schaffer

McGraw-Hill, 2005

An ACT survivor
A must-buy for the ACT. If you only buy one book to prepare for this test, make sure it's this one. The strategies are specific and useful. No wasteful filler like you find in the other prep books. The authors tell you exactly what to do to increase your score. And the book is fun to read.

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox51 reviews
Maggie O'Farrell

Harcourt, 2007

Wonderfully written
Prior to picking this up by chance at my local bookstore, I had never heard of Maggie O'Farrell or any of her work. The short blurb on the dust jacket peaked my interest though, so I took it home. What a fantastic discovery. This is a touching, troubling, and heart-warming story. It's very skillfully written, taking the reader through past memories to present time and from character to ...

The best book for ACT preperation
I bought 4 books to prepare for my ACT exam (Princeton Review (Cracking the ACT, 2007 Edition), Kaplan ACT 2007 Comprehensive Program, McGraw-Hill's 10 ACT Practice Tests, and The Real ACT Prep Guide). I found the Real ACT Prep Guide to be the best one as it has three real practice exams at the end (as close as u can get to the real exam). As far as the preparation material provided for ...

Cracking the ACT, 2008 Edition (College Test Prep)10 reviews
Princeton Review

Princeton Review, 2007

useful
I am a sophomore student in high school. I took the ACT in April 12.2008,and the English was extremely helpful. Although the math section was unpleasant and Reading was ran out of time.I would recommend to the students who going to take the ACT. I got my score back in April 2. The score was terrible and disappointed. I'm going to take it again in June to prove my score up to 10 points

The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Official Prep Guide From The Makers Of The ACT (Real Act Prep Guide)9 reviews
ACT Inc.

Peterson's, 2007

ACT book EXCELLENT
The Real ACT book is one of the best books of its kind. I teach SAT and ACT prep, and this book not only is well formatted with REAL ACT problems (by the test-makers), but the book gives the fullest explanations of the correct and incorrect answers that I have ever seen. I'm using it exclusively in my classes. Parents looking to help their kids get prepared should buy NO OTHER BOOK. Robert ...

Kaplan ACT 2008 Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan Act (Book & CD-Rom))2 reviews
Kaplan

Kaplan Publishing, 2008

ACT prep made palatable
This ACT review book contains important tactics for approaching the test, but breaks it down into manageable parts. You could just spend a few hours with this book, and get something out of it, or you could go through it thoroughly and get more out of it. Written in clear, memorable language. I use it to help students do test prep. They say it's better to take paper practice tests, since they ...

David Walsh

Free Press, 2005

Why Do They Act That Way?: A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen
We have found this book to be extremely helpful. Raising a teenager is an amazing experience and it helps to have some expert, non partial advice that is backed by research. We especially appreciated the fact that the author does not offer excuses, but helps everyone remain responsible for their behavior, including parents. It was so helpful for us that we bought it as a gift for two different ...

Acts for Everyone, Part 23 reviews
N. T. Wright

Westminster John Knox Press, 2008

Great Book from one of the best
Tom Wright has written a series of New Testament commentaries that are easy and enjoyable to read. He combines excellent scholarship and insight with reader friendly simplicity. I highly recommend the Everyone series to everyone. In each book a very readable translation of the New Testament book being discussed, is provided by Tom Wright. He follows this by a story or anectedote and then gives ...

The Act of Teaching
Donald R Cruickshank, Kim K. Metcalf, ...

McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages, 2008

The Act of Teaching prepares students to be competent beginning teachers and to develop into competent experienced teachers. Research-based, the text emphasizes what teachers need to know about students (how they learn and their diversities); how to plan and provide instruction; how to assess, manage and motivate students; and how, overall, to be an effective teacher. Well-designed pedagogical features prompt students to reflect on what they ...

Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation10 reviews
Eboo Patel

Beacon Press, 2008

An important memoir for young global change agents.
As the Director of the Center for Global Engagement at Northwestern University, I am always on the look out for books that help young people make sense of their place in the world and their potential to create meaningful change. What I felt the strongest connection to in Acts of Faith was Eboo's sense - which I felt throughout the book - that by exploring the intersection of one's own story ...

Inter-Act: Interpersonal Communication Concepts, Skills, and Contexts Includes Inter-Action! CD1 review
Kathleen S. Verderber, Rudolph F. Verderber, ...

Oxford University Press, USA, 2006

Very, very undergrad
A graduate program had the audacity to use this as a text. I would say this is a solid community college level text, or perhaps an intro to communications text for a 4 year course. Most definitely not a graduate course level text. Don't expect to gain any particularly new insight into communication if your grad school assigns this text, although you could probably expect an easy A.

Little Acts of Grace8 reviews
Rosemarie Gortler, Donna Piscitelli

Our Sunday Visitor, 2002

sweet, fun, and informative
It's a great little book that my 4 year olds enjoy and it instructs them about little things to do to honor God, like kneeling before the tabernacle. It's also informative for my 13 year old who wants to know "why" we do these things. The 4 year olds pick it often as a bedtime book.
