Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao201 reviews
Wayne W. Dyer

Hay House, 2007

Really Brilliant, easy to read, short chapters.
I like Wayne Dyer, he writes some very current books. He is not my favorite author as I sometimes get a bit brain-tied with how he expresses himself. With some thinking though, I've got the message and it's been very useful. Now this book is lovely. He breaks down the pithy "Tao Te Ching" with 81 little chapters on the wisdom of Lao Tzu. Taoism is based upon the wisdom of Lao Tzu. What I ...

Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day178 reviews
Joel Osteen

Free Press, 2007

You can improve
This book is a sequel to Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential. Pastor Osteen is great at accentuating the positive and finding God's blessings in this world. It's hard not to be motivated when reading this book, as I was with his previous title.

Book of a Thousand Days54 reviews
Shannon Hale

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2007

Fine Fairy Tale Revisited Option
Hale has mastered these other kingdoms so unlike our own, yet so familiar. Book of a Thousand Days brings to life a little known Grimm's tale (not for the Disney-hearted) and a way of life from long ago, far away. However, the book resonates with teens who are beginning to question social order, traditions, and justice. The story links an orphaned maid, a princess, a yak, a chamber pot, ...

The United States Constitution: A Graphic Adaptation3 reviews
Jonathan Hennessey

Hill and Wang, 2008

A terrific introduction (or refresher) to our nation's ruling document
Every American should read this book! It really does an amazing job of presenting every element of the Constitution - from the history of the Revolution to the debates over the various articles and amendments - with clarity while never seeming to talk town to its audience. Hennessey and McConnell do a terrific job of explaining some of the Constitution's more complicated concepts (Electoral ...

Peter Pan: A Classic Collectible Pop-Up

Little Simon, 2008

Readers will delight in this retelling of the classic story of Neverland, pirates, and flying. Robert Sabuda's elegant text and paper engineering give new life to favorite charcters like Tinkerbell, Wendy, Michael, and John, and, of course, Peter Pan. Sabuda's beautiful pop-ups are further complemented by full color illustrations that pull readers even deeper into the magical world that is Neverland.

Jon Scieszka

Puffin, 1996

A great read aloud book!
When I read this book, I loved it. When I read it to Kindergarden-First grade children they loved it as well. One could do many activites and have many discussions about this book. Highly recommend, not only for teachers.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: A Pop-up Adaptation54 reviews
Lewis Carroll

Little Simon, 2003

Family Treasure
I purchased this book because of the last page. I had seen it at my Book Club and knew my grandchildren would love it. They love peaking down the rabbits hole and finding the additional pop ups on each page. A book you will definately want to pass on down the family. Truly a classic come to life.

Beastly24 reviews
Alex Flinn

HarperTeen, 2008

Twilight Series Fan
This book was fantastic. It raises emotions like the Twilight Series. It has sort of a corny ending, but the ending fit nicely with the whole story. If you don't like "feel good" movies, you may not like this book. However, I hate "feel good" movies and read this in one sitting. I found it a mix between "Mean Girls" and "Into the Woods".

Enchanted: Erotic Bedtime Stories For Women74 reviews
Nancy Madore

Spice, 2006

Steamy fairy tales
This group of fairy tales was very steamy and original. It is explicit but written in an old fashioned way that I found extra exciting. Some of the more outstanding stories I thought were Beauty and the Beast, Cat and Mouse, Cinderella, The Empresses' New Clothes and Mirror on the Wall. There are many interesting and validating points made about women in the telling. I see by the reviews that ...

Mirror Mirror: A Novel119 reviews
Gregory Maguire

Harper Paperbacks, 2004

Still great
While this has been my least favorite of the Maguire books that I've read (although, admittedly I have not read Lost, which I've understood to be not quite Maguire caliber) I am still awarding it 5 stars because it was still one of the most amazing reads! I have said this is in other Maguire reviews, but I love the worlds he creates. The imagery and storytelling is unrivaled. I love that he ...

Enemy of God (The Arthur Books #2)57 reviews
Bernard Cornwell

St. Martin's Griffin, 1998

Excellent twist on Arthurian legend
Second in the Warlord Chronicles, his Arthurian trilogy, told from the viewpoint of Derfel Cadarn, a Saxon slave boy who has now become one of Arthur's greatest warriors. A heady blend of historical fiction and fantasy with the retelling of the Arthurian legend in a very plausible way, without a whole lot of romantic nonsense--there are love stories within the story, but it's primarily a tale of ...

Jack and the Beanstalk3 reviews
Carol Ottolenghi

Brighter Child, 2001

Cow for beans
This is another book, parents should get for their children's bookshelves. A classic tale about a lazy boy named Jack, who trade a cow for magic beans instead of money. The magic beans grew into a very high beanstalk that reaches the clouds. Curious Jack climbed up the stalk where he met a fairy telling him how the orge was the one who killed his father and took all of their fortune. Jack went to ...

The Gingerbread Girl12 reviews

Gingerbread Girl
A great new take on the traditional story, this book tells the story of the gingerbread boy's younger sister! A fun story. My students and I love it.

The Once and Future King327 reviews
Terence Hanbury White

Ace Trade, 1996

creative, rich and wonderful
I loved how detailed and orginal the story was. It's like T.H. White instead of trying to tell the complete story of King Arthur, takes little snippets of the parts he thought were particularly interesting or wonderful and makes them beautiful and rich with life and meaning. His words are full of love and light. The Once and Future King

The Three Snow Bears18 reviews

Putnam Juvenile, 2007

The Three Snow Bears
As a Kindergarten teacher I relish a new great book to use with my students at school. This is a wonderful, artistic, multicultural adaptation of the original Three Bears folktail. Thoroughly enjoyed by the kids, as well as, myself. Jan Brett's illustrations keep you coming back fora closer examination as her borders are rich and give clues to what's happening next and while the story moves ...

Excalibur (The Arthur Books #3)75 reviews
Bernard Cornwell

St. Martin's Griffin, 1999

An EXCELLENT ending to a good trilogy.
This was a very good trilogy, but the finale, this book, was by far the best. The Winter King, book 1, and Enemy of God, book 2, were both well written, entertaining and interesting (I gave both 4 stars as they were good but not great), but this book finishes off the trilogy with war, carnage, destruction and misery; it had its good things too, but we are talking about dark ages England and what ...
