Seabiscuit 630 reviews Laura Hillenbrand
Random House Audio, 2003
Seabiscuit for President!!! I can't recall the number of non-fiction books that I've read. Little matter, this is the most incredible true story that I've read!!
Laura Hillenbrand has captured a time in American History. She is a true storyteller who has done impeccable research. It must have been the time she spent in Gambier, Ohio at Kenyon College that inspired her to such great in depth writing.
For those ...

Have a Nice Day! A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks 687 reviews
HarperAudio, 2000
Laugh, cry, get blown away with this spellbindingly heartfelt autobiography, with no ghostwriters attached! Amazing that in a few weeks, Mick Foley poured his life and soul into 760 pages of notebook paper that would make it, lightly cut and without any major edits, onto book, and earn it's New York Times #1 Bestseller's List. If only it weren't for that Oprah! (readers of the book will understand)
Starting from childhood, he makes it quick, but sweet as he tells humorous stories about his friends, ...

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 5168 reviews J. K. Rowling
Large Print Press, 2003
J.K. Rowling brings more maturity to the series. After the brilliant Prisoner of Azkaban expectations were running very high.
Fortunately, Rowling delivers yet again.
Another book that was almost impossible to put down.
Azkaban was shorter, but this one is really long.
Its length didn't deter anyone from reading through it in record time, including me.
Adding even more drama and action and a story line that was simply amazing, Goblet of ...

Alanna (Song of the Lioness) 567 reviews Tamora Pierce
Topeka Bindery, 1999
A heroine that fails to disappoint. Admittedly a huge fan of the "women-warrior, disguised as a man" characters, I have been disappointed time and again by peoples take on them, but not this time. The take on magic, the involvement of the gods, and the world, which holds different morals, gave to a very interesting atmosphere for the books to be set in. Alanna is a character that I couldn't help cheering for, and identifying with. ...

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations...One School at a Time 1112 reviews Greg Mortenson, David Oliver Relin
Viking Adult, 2006
A Good American Only someone living on Mars the past few decades would not wonder why the USA has such difficulty in its dealings in the Middle East. The military prowess of the US seems to be all that our leaders feel is necessary when dealing there. Greg Mortenson, a US citizen and former Himalayan mountain climber, found a better way.
Ignorance is rampant in much of the world. It is especially so in ...

Harry Potter 3 and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Adult Edition 2598 reviews Joanne K. Rowling
Bloomsbury Publishing Inc, 2004
Fabulous narration My family has enjoyed listening to the Harry Potter audio books for several years. Jim Dale's readings include a host of characters with remarkably distinctive voices that carry over from the first book, the Sorcerer's Stone, to the last. He reads with fabulous energy and makes these great stories come to life like nothing I've ever heard before.
The Prisoner of Azkaban is no exception. ...

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 5414 reviews J. K. Rowling
Large Print Press, 2003
It lives up to the hype. One fine day while I was at work, I went into our café and came across a coworker reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
Like a lot of adults I started laughing and said, "Aren't those for kids?"
My former coworker said, "Don't laugh until you've actually read them."
I took her advice and picked up the same book.
And I have to admit, she was right!
The Sorcerer's Stone was, like many ...

Amazing True Story Homer Hickam grew up in a rural isolated mountain town but went on to win the National Science Fair.
This book is his story and how he was successful.

Lonesome Dove 378 reviews Larry McMurtry
Topeka Bindery, 1999
Everything Lonesome Dove is worth it. I originally saw the movie "Lonesome Dove" which intrigued me and interested me in the book. I loved the book! It had even more info then the movie (as is generally the case) and though the 8 hours of movie are very true to the book, there is a lot that you miss until you see it in print.
I disagree strongly with the reviewers who say this is not a western. It is a story rich with action and ...

Truman 274 reviews
Simon & Schuster Audio, 2001
wonderful sense of American history I have read most of McCullough's books, and so I knew that after reading this I would understand Harry S. Truman more deeply than I ever had. What I didn't know what was that I would learn so much about 20th century American history. McCullough is a great story-teller. His use of historical details to recreate the man and the times is magnificent. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Should Be Newberry Medal Book I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for not only an adventure but also an extremely well written story of life. I loved reading it. Impressive Pr, 2000
Thank you for a WONDERFUL book. Both entertaining AND full of valuable information. I wish to extend a huge thank you to Jacqueline for writing this book! My mother-in-law had been diagnosed with dementia and had progressed to point where we felt it was no longer safe to allow her to continue to live alone. Our problem was that she was fighting us "tooth and nail" at every turn. She did not realize the scope of her problem. She felt she merely could not remember things once ...
