Knopf Books for Young Readers, 2008

Brisingr
Read this one in short order as I could not put it down. Did not expect the change from triligy though. Now I have to wait a whole year for the last in the series. Someone needs to stand over that young man to keep him writing day and night to finish the last book post haste. Such a wonderful imaginary story - especially if you love dragons.

Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)3349 reviews
Stephenie Meyer

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2008

I cannot even fathom how anyone gave this a lower rating....
I started this series just after the 2nd book was released, thankfully. So I was able to read twilight and new moon together, which I will say for someone like me with no memory, was helpful and made it more enjoyable. By the time breaking dawn was released, I had a vague memory of the story, but knew I had absolutely loved it despite not remembering much... so there was no way I wouldn't read ...

Gone With the Wind - Move on Over
Gone With the Wind has been my favorite book for 40 years. Still love it but the Twilight Series is my new favorite. I was looking for anything to read one weekend and picked this one up. Saw it had 3 more in the series and thought I'd take a chance it would be ok. Boy did I get my money's worth! I read all 4 in 4 days - in addition to working. Stephanie Meyers has a real gift for drawing in ...

Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3)958 reviews
Stephenie Meyer

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2007

Amazing.
I'm so glad i stumbled onto this series...i LOVED every book, so much so in fact that I read the entire series within a week and a half. Best fiction I've read in a while. Slightly irritating that its stuck with the "teen/tween" label because I know many 20-somethings like myself (and older) that have also read and love the books.

Twilight: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion15 reviews
Mark Cotta Vaz

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2008

Splendid
This book has me so unbelievably excited for when the movie comes out. It's loaded with wonderful pictures of the actors on set and filled with all kinds of juicy details about the background of the film. I am still not completely finished reading the entire series, so seeing the faces of the actors give me faces to picture as I read, which has made it all the more enjoyable. For me personally, ...

The Graveyard Book25 reviews
Neil Gaiman

HarperCollins, 2008

Read. Share. Repeat.
I know Neil Gaiman doesn't usually write sequels. "Anansi Boys" is probably the closest he's come. But honestly? I don't think I have ever wanted to read more of a story than after I finished this one. "The Graveyard Book" is an adventurous tale of Nobody Owens, a boy whose parents and sister are killed by a cold-blooded villain known as Jack. He toddles into a graveyard where the local ghosts ...

The "Singin' Scientist" reveals her story of having and recovering from a stroke
XXXXX "The story that follows is my stroke of insight into the beauty and resiliency of the human brain. It's a personal account, as seen through the eyes of a neuroscientist [or brain scientist, which the author is], about what it felt like to experience the deterioration of my left brain [that is, the author experienced a rare form of stroke or cerebrovascular accident in the left cerebral ...

My 10 year old Loves The 39 Clues Series
Got Book 1 for my 10 year old daughter. She read the entire book in days, joined the website, and talks about these a lot. She keeps asking me to get her all 39 books - she really loves this series. Previously loved the Daisy Meadows books and still likes Nancy Drew. Hope the next few in the series come out Soon. I love to encourage her reading, and this book brings in educational subjects ...

The Host: A Novel651 reviews
Stephenie Meyer

Little, Brown and Company, 2008

Wasn't sure I would but I LOVED this book!
After reading the Twilight series twice I needed something a bit different so I thought I would give this book a try - boy am I ever glad I did. I loved this book so much. It was just a little slow moving at first but once you get a few chapters into it - wow did it ever take off. I'm recommending it to everyone I know who loves a good read. I truly hope that Stephenie Meyer will write the ...

The Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle22 reviews

Del Rey/Dabel Brothers, 2008

Excellent Storm Front prequel!!
Mind you, I haven't actually read the bound graphic novel (though once I recoup from buying Backup and Blood Lite: An Anthology of Humorous Horror Stories Presented by the Horror Writers Association, I'll consider getting it), but I have read the individual issues of the comic book release (no easy matter since the second issue sold so madly I had to bid for a copy on eBay after not finding it in ...

Rough Weather4 reviews
Robert B. Parker

Putnam Adult, 2008

Return of the Gray man
Reading a Spenser novel is like breaking open a fine bottle of wine. You know once you try it you find that it's smooth and satisfying. And, of course, once you finish it off you'll have a damn headache knowing it'll be another year before the next one comes out. ROUGH WEATHER is Parker's latest Spenser yarn, with some old and familiar characters we know and like and some we don't like and who ...

Bad Money: Reckless Finance, Failed Politics, and the Global Crisis of American Capitalism59 reviews
Kevin Phillips

Viking Adult, 2008

The other shoe
This book details the possibly fatal indebtedness of the US to lenders throughout the rest of the world. The only major omission is a discussion of the instruments that may be the final nail in our coffin, Credit Default Swaps.

Anticancer: A New Way of Life18 reviews
David Servan-Schreiber

Viking Adult, 2008

Excellent! It will help you change your terrain.
This book is quite compelling in the need to change our ways in order to survive in this world of pollution and food stripped of nutrients. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for ways to be healthier as well as people who know they have cancer. If you are a science oriented person, this book will offer you all the studies and proof you need. I am using things I have learned to fine tune ...

The Book Thief423 reviews
Markus Zusak

Knopf Books for Young Readers, 2007

Loved it
I loved this novel, and I must confess that I had serious reservations about it. I mean, it was hard for me to imagine being sympathetic with a German family in the midst of WWII. But I was wrong--the family is wonderful, the characters memorable. I especially loved the way the story was told--through the voice of Death. I definitely would recommend this novel. It's an anti-war book, which we ...

Keeps getting better!!
I was very happy with the way this book turned out... Oh-so-sad to know this is it (at least for a while if we're really lucky), but each book has gotten better and better and better. This really tops the series off! And the readablity can't be beat!! Every time I read it, it's like the first time and I find more things to love about it!!!
