Ella Enchanted 1164 reviews Gail Carson Levine
Listening Library, 1998
amazingly fantastical! I know many of you have already seen the movie. I know I was a big fan of the movie with Anne Hathaway... and that cute guy that played Prince Charmont. But do not let that deter you from reading this gem of a story. The movie only gives you a glimpse (and a small one at that) as to what is really between the covers of Ella Enchanted.
Although geared for younger readers, I was taken by this ...

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 2627 reviews J. K. Rowling
Large Print Distribution, 2003
Rowling Hits Her Stride, Making No. 3 Succeed for Both Young Readers and Adults In broad outline HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN follows the pattern of the previous two books: a magical adventure yarn about the young eponymous wizard told within the framework of another year at the English wizarding boarding school Hogwarts, the beginning and ending of the story in the company of Harry's insufferable muggle (regular people) relatives, the Dursleys. Book Number ...

Alanna : The First Adventure 589 reviews Tamora Pierce
Atheneum, 2002
great fantasy for girls! my friends and i were obsessed with all the tamora pierce books in 6th grade. this one started it all, and we still talk about it 4 years later. you must read this one first. also, for you nitpicky people out there, the summary on here is wrong. thom does not disguise himself as a girl since boys are allowed to learn magic. overall, great series

Boy's Life 285 reviews Robert R. McCammon
Turtleback Books: A Division of Sanval, 1999
Now for something completely different McCammon is known as a really good horror writer, but here he steps away from the horror for a novel about boyhood. Somehow he is able to step out of his own shoes for a bit and step into the shoes of an All-American kid. He captures boyhood perfectly in all its awkwardness, wonder, joy, and even terror. Some might say the book is written a bit piecemeal, but McCammon deftly holds the book ...

The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles 272 reviews Julie Andrews Edwards
HarperCollins, 1996
Perfect book for a family car trip We read this book on a long car trip to our 4 year old. The DNA/genetics parts were over his head (although we likened cells to Legos and DNA to blueprints), but the rest of it was thoroughly understood and enjoyed. It kept us all completely engrossed and wondering what was going to happen next, which is a great way to pass time on a long road trip. The Professor's exercises for Lindy and her ...

Mossflower 302 reviews Brian Jacques, 2008
Best book in the universe! I have read many, many, great books. Mossflower would totally be at the top of the list! I started reading it, and I just couldn't put it down! The plot and characters draaw you in, until you fell like you are in Mossflower woods, helping Martin, young Dinny, and Gonff find Salamandstrom. This book is amazing, and I definitely reccomend it for ages 6 and up!

Wild Magic (Immortals (Prebound)) 275 reviews T. Pierce
San Val, 2005
Great series for young girls I first read Wild Magic and the other three books in the series when I was much younger, but I love to reread them now and again because they're a classic for me. Tamora Pierce crafted wonderful characters, including a host of strong female characters who can serve as good role models for young girls. I highly recommend this book for any fantasy-oriented teens. It has magic, adventure, and ...

The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches II (Keeper Martin's Tales, Book 2, Special Illustrated Edition) 174 reviews Robert Stanek
Reagent Press Echo, 2007
Journey deeper into the hidden realms One to add to your library next to Potter and Narnia! As I said in my review of the first book, there are no lovelier fantasy books for readers of all ages than the Kingdoms books. This marvelous series is destined to become a classic. The Kingdoms are such a magical place to visit and the characters so interesting they become like friends. You can't help but love the good ones and hate the bad ...

Successful gift! My 8 year old grandaughter screamed when I gave her the book. She had borrowed one from her cousin, but could hardly wait to read this one. I understand there is a movie version coming out soon. Both boys and girls identify with the character and enjoy reading this book.

Harold and the Purple Crayon 191 reviews Crockett Johnson
HarperCollins, 1955
Amazing!!! I brought home 10 books from the library tonight, and both of my kids (twins, age 3) fought over this book. It is the oldest and smallest of all of the books I brought home, reminding me that this is a classic for a reason! They liked the small size, because they both hold their books facing outward, the way I do when I read to them.
I honestly cannot say what they liked the most about this ...

Martin the Warrior (Redwall (Ace Paperback)) 261 reviews Brian Jacques
Perfection Learning, 1995
amazing This is in my opinion the best book of a simply amazing series.
It follows the story of Martin the Warrior, a legendary character in the Redwall series.
Although it wasn't the first book written in the series chronologically, it's probably the best to read first - and if you were to only read a single Redwall book it should be this.
Courage, honor, romance, adventure, revenge...this book ...

The Monster at the End of this Book (Big Little Golden Book) 204 reviews Jon Stone

Cutest. Book. EVER. What you have to do is read it out loud the right way to build up the suspense and whatnot. SUPER CUTE!!! We got this book because it was a favorite of my husband's when he was little. I had never heard of it before. OMG so cute! Why had I never heard of this when I was little? Our toddler loves this book and wants us to read it to her over and over and over again.
I think it's a cute ...

The Book of Atrus (Myst, Book 1) 196 reviews Rand Miller
Random House Audio, 1995
Myst: The Book of Atrus It really seems only fitting that a video game about books would have a series of books published in its name. For some reason when such books were first coming out I was sort of skeptical about their quality. I truly am glad I overcame this and decided to pick up the Myst books. I was an early enough adopter to be able to get all the hardcover texts and they are all beautifully designed. ...

A Ring of Endless Light 203 reviews Madeleine L'Engle
Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group, 1995
Loved It!! I loved this book and I would recommend it to girls from the ages 10 and up. This was a good story to connect to your life or the lives of the people around you. The things that happen to Vicky in A Ring of Endless Light might happen or may have happened to the reader. Therefore the plot of the story is believable. I would like to read another story by this author because I loved how thorough ...

Mattimeo 215 reviews Brian Jacques Redwall
Recorded Books, 2004
EXCELLENT! 10/10! This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!
