Backcountry Adventures Southern California: The Ultimate Guide to the Backcountry for anyone with a Sport ...8 reviews
Peter Massey

Adler Publishing Co, 2006

A guide to getting to know Southern California
After being transplanted to Southern California from the Northwest, I felt hemmed in, separated from all things natural. Backcountry Adventures has helped to change that. It's a wonderful guide to exploring the region. The hefty book begins with a historical, botanical and geographic guide to the region, highlighting Southern California's explorers, settlers, missionaries, bandits, flora, ...

Runner's World Guide to Adventure Racing: How to Become a Successful Racer and Adventure Athlete (Runners ...8 reviews
Ian Adamson

Rodale Books, 2004

OUTSTANDING BOOK!
I have read two other books on Adventure Racing that were published before Ian's book came out in the market. Those two books were also good, in fact Ian wrote the foreword on both. But Ian's book came out a cut above the rest. His book offered his and his teamates "winning strategies and experiences". The book was intelligently written and commanded authority on all topics discussed such as ...

Homesteading Adventures: A Guide for Doers & Dreamers4 reviews
Sue Robishaw

Manytracks, 1997

Wonderful Introduction To "The Road Less Traveled"!
Adherents of the `60s counterculture back-to-the-land philosophy will find much to enjoy and savor in this humorous but fact-filled book on homesteading self-sufficiency. I am lucky enough to have had a personally autographed copy of author Sue Robishaw's wonderful book "Homesteading Adventures" sitting comfortably on one of my bookshelves for years. I recently re-read it, and found it as ...

Lewis and Clark. John Wesley Powell. Greg Witt. They're all tops in the field of adventure travel. And they know their stuff. Trust them. Ultimate Adventures takes you on a whiplash ride from O2-thin summits to batty caves--and everywhere in between. It's an exciting read, as well as a fantastic trip-planning tool. Everything Family Guide to the Disneyland Resort, California Adventure, Universal Studios, and the Anaheim ...1 review
Betsy Malloy

Adams Media, 2007

Great resource!
This is a great resource for planning your trip to Disneyland. Very informative read for the rides, attractions, places to stay. The worksheets are very helpful as well, to keep the information in one place. I also suggest Birnbaums Guide to accompany this and you have a full and well-rounded set of guides to plan your trip and day-to-day activities. I also suggest joining some message ...

Adventures in Odyssey: The Official Guide: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Stories, Actors, and Characters ...3 reviews

Focus, 2008

Too Short
My only complaint: it's too short. It's 563 pages long, but still too short! Nathan Hoobler did a wonderful job with this Guide--not bogging down with long episode summaries (yet giving enough that if you haven't heard an episode, you'll get what's going on), but digging right into that behind-the-scenes stuff most people have never known. Hilarious Eugene version of 'Three Blind Mice', Goof ...

Hunter Publishing (NJ), 2006

A Great Guide to The Alcan and Beyond.
While the Milepost will give you every pullout and scenic view on the highway, this book is great reading about what to do, and what to see on your way. The information is very accurate and intresting. In this book, when you look up a certain place you end up reading on and on.

Wish I had this when I went there
Lets Go guides are great! I love the side notes. This is strictly Oregon, Washington and Northwestern parts of Canada. I didn't have this guide when I went to the Pacific Northwest. Now I have and I look forward to sharing it with others and keeping it to use when I go back to explore again on a budget. Terrific book for those who need ideas for travel
This is a great book that goes chronologically over multiple destinations and activities all around the world based on the appropriate time of the year for each beginning the first week in January, and it showcases a couple of them with pictures, and a short article on each page. It even tells what "fitness/expertise level" each activity requires (with plenty of activities for those who are ...

Backcountry Adventures Northern California: The Ultimate Guide to the Backcountry for Anyone with a Sport ...11 reviews
Peter Massey, Jeanne Wilson

Adler Publishing Co, 2006

Excellent book -- buy the new edition
I won't rehash how good this book is, you have all 9 other reviews to do it. Just a note of caution, make sure you buy the latest edition (from 2006). Amazon still lists the one from 2002 first in the search results. I like the GPS coordinates, and the fact that it gives directions and mileage for each trail in both directions. So you have a lot more flexibility on how you plan your outing.

Fantastic Tome Ripe with Ideas
If you're looking for a reference book on travel ideas, look no further! This book is beyond excellent. I am currently researching for an extended round-the-world backpacking trip with my son. I spend a lot of time in bookstores taking notes. This book, however, was so full of excellent info that I actually bought it, despite my strict budget. It is one of the best travel investments I have ...
