Adventures in Missing the Point: How the Culture-Controlled Church Neutered the Gospel29 reviews
Brian D. McLaren, Tony Campolo

Zondervan/Youth Specialties, 2006

Give it a read!
If you were raised in the evangelical church with the Bible already mapped out and interpreted for you and then grew up and started coming to some different conclusions- then you're living out what this book talks about. If you find yourself ever thinking "wait a minute. That doesn't say what I was taught that it says!" then you'll want to read it! I loved this book. It described the ...

Donald Duck: Case Of The Missing Mummy (Walt Disney's Donald Duck Adventures)1 review
Pat and Shelly Block, Carl Barks

Gemstone Publishing, 2007

I love Donald Duck's latest adventure! It's intriguing and hysterical!
I truly enjoyed this book, even if it is for kids; I'm a big kid at heart! Donald Duck is a "crack-up!" His voice alone is enough to drive me into hysterics, not to mention his hilarious antics! You just have to see how mischievous and overbearing he is in the setting of Egypt's Bey of El Dagga! It's enough to drive an insane person SANE. And those nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, are as ...

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Death in Winter (Star Trek, the Next Generation)30 reviews
Michael Jan Friedman

Star Trek, 2007

One of MJF's Best
This is a great book. I just wish more of the original characters were around, but things change and lives move on, even on Star Trek. However, MJF writes a compelling book here. He is one of the best Star Trek authors and he doesn't let you down here. I just hope the powers that be let him write more TNG books.

Journey 3-D: The Novel (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3d)2 reviews

Price Stern Sloan, 2008

my son loves it
Let me start by saying that I didn't read the book. I bought it for my 8 years old son and he loved it. He read it from cover to cover without putting it down. Not only that, afterwards he even thanked me for buying him the book (all on his own). This feat alone says alot!

Missing in Action (Star Trek: New Frontier)24 reviews
Peter David

Pocket, 2008

Loved it!
When I closed the cover of Missing in Action, I said to myself- literally outloud- "Now that's good storytelling." I've come to expect that with PAD's Star Trek New Frontier series, but MIA is the best one yet. Slight SPOILERS to follow: In MIA, Calhoun finds himself and the crew of his ship, The Excalibur, sucked into a distant universe where the laws of physics are not what we are ...

The Case of the Missing Marquess: An Enola Holmes Mystery19 reviews
Nancy Springer

Puffin, 2007

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes's Little Sister
Nancy Springer is a noted fantasy author, but here lately she's been re-writing some of her - and my - favorite childhood characters. I've always been partial to that Outlaw of Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood, but who knew he had a daughter? Nancy did. In fact, she's written five novels about Rowan Hood and her merry band. Morgan Le Fay has always been one of those strong woman, and evil, from ...

The Reckoning: A Thriller24 reviews
Jeff Long

Pocket Star, 2005

Good Old-Fashioned Thrills
When I read The Reckoning, I was impressed. Jeff Long is always to my taste, but with this book he hits a stride. There are fewer story threads than usual (usual for the detail-oriented Long, that is)and the result is a very readable, taut book that still contains plenty of plot. His characters are likable and the adventure into jungle ruins is eerie and fascinating. Long creates compelling ...

Arthur and the Minimoys14 reviews
Luc Besson

HarperTrophy, 2006

Good story, easy reading
Arthur and the Minimoys was a decent little story, definitely targeted to a younger crowd (pre-teen) and was a relatively decent read. The whole idea was simple yet very interesting. I only had two issues with the book. First, there's a definite issue with relative scale. I'm willing to believe in the tiny Minimoy population that's barely 1/2" tall... but nothing 1/2" tall is going to be ...

Missing in Tokyo1 review
Graham Marks

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2006

british english is great
this book is great anyway; it has a good plot and good subplots and it has nice characters. but it also is set partly in the UK and mostly in japan so you get japan from a UK perspective instead of a USA one. (and the british english is enjoyable to read as well.)

MIA: Missing in Atlanta2 reviews

Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense, 2008

great suspense
Debby Giusti has written an exciting suspense with enough plot twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. Her characters are believable and you really cheer for the romance growing between them, especially when neither realize it yet. The faith element is so natural and inspiring. I look forward to more of Miss Giusti's work.

Arthur and the Invisibles Movie Tie-In Edition Unabr CD: Arthur and the Minimoys and Arthur and the Forbidden ...1 review
Luc Besson

HarperChildrensAudio, 2006

This is as good as it gets in audio books
Jim Dale is the most brilliant audio book performer in the world. He is as wonderful here as on the Harry Potter audios. I enjoyed this story immensely. The three main characters - Arthur, Selenia, and Beta - are all engaging. The story has an endearing sweetness. I just loved this and would very highly recommend it.

The Adventure of the Missing Detective: And 19 of the Year's Finest Crime and Mystery Stories: Plus complete ...2 reviews

Carroll & Graf, 2005

The short story lives!
A great book to take along on vacation. Enjoy interesting well written mysteries by true masters of the genre. Compilations often come off as pretentious and try to reach above what they really are, pure entertainment. The editor selected great examples, not a dud in the bunch, and 25 stories gives you more than twice the content of most collections and that alone is worth the investment. Buy! ...
