The McElderry Book of Aesop's Fables 3 reviews Michael Morpurgo
Margaret K. McElderry, 2005
Gorgeous book for 3-7 years I looked for some time for a good collection of Aesop's fables to add to my children's bookshelf. Too often they seemed to be pitched at adults. This collection is perfect for reading to 3-7 year olds (although my 7 year old can read it for himself as the language is not complex). There are 21 fables and each takes up between 2-6 pages - perfect for bedtime! They are written in a very engaging ...

Aesop's Fables: A Classic Illustrated Edition (Classic Illustrated) 16 reviews Aesop
Chronicle Books, 1990
Flawless execution of timeless classics I don't know what I can add, really.
I bought this book based on reviews already posted, having compared it to about a dozen other Aesop's Fables compilations available on Amazon. This one stood out far and above the competition in the reviews, and it did not disappoint. From the binding, the paper, printing quality, to the actual format and selection of artwork (including a lot of familiar ...

Aesop's Fables (Apple Classics) 4 reviews Ann Mcgovern
Scholastic Paperbacks, 1963
Excellent Story Book!!! In this book there are many tales that are retold by Ann McGovern. They are used to teach morals, especially to children. Some fables that are in the book are, "The Fox and the Grapes", "The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf", and "The Goose with the Golden Eggs." The morals that are portrayed in these fables have very good lessons that teach kids what not to do in the future while they are growing up. ...

Barnes Noble, 1999
The best money you'll spend for a book. This collection of some of the most memorable of Aesop's Fables is written in clear and elegant prose, beautifully illustrated, and perfect for pleasure reading and instruction. We use it as part of our homeschooling writing exercises. Our daughter reads a story, rewrites it in her own words, and illustrates it. We discuss the saying that attends each story and also the phrases that have become ...

CreateSpace, 2008
Aesop's Fables Aesop's Fables is a great book that is a collection of short stories. This book gave us famous phrases that are used today, such as "sour grapes." These are easy to understand stories for all ages(unless you are under the age of 7). It's amazing that such small stories have great meaning. Every fable gives some kind of small lesson at the end. The characters fit each story very well. This ...

Aesop's Fables (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) (Barnes & Noble Classics) 1 review Aesop
Barnes & Noble Classics, 2003
There's a fable for everyone The basis behind Aesop's Fables is the fact that this storyteller used animals to teach certain lessons that turn out to be contradictory if you have the time to compare them.
Reading the scholarship at the very beginning really helped me to grasp the fables more than I would have on my own. Unfortunately, I feel the overall scholarship was biased and I'm quite perturbed at how fashionable it ...

Aesop's Fables (Oxford World's Classics) 11 reviews Aesop

Animals as Human Nature. We may never really know the true identity of Aesop the Man. But his legacy lives on in these fables,
the morals of which can still find relevance in today's society.
For those of you, whom are easily offended some of the fables bring up racial differences that may upset you.
In particular fable 361:~ The Black man in the river, but then you would be merely taking things out of context of the ...

Unwitting Wisdom: An Anthology of Aesop's Fables 2 reviews
Chronicle Books, 2004
A lavish enterprise This is a wonderful book. As for the fables, they are well told with drama, vocabulary and coherence. The drawings, the DRAWINGS, are sumptuous, give vibrancy to the tales, would easily stand alone not aa drawings but as art. I think there are books that children will remember always. This is one.

Aesop's Fables (Illustrated Stories for Child.) 3 reviews Aesop
Gramercy, 1999
A Beautifully Illustrated Book! I couldn't believe the price on this book after I saw all the beautiful illustrations in it. The pictures are gorgeous, and full of expression. I also was impressed that it contained so many of the fables. I counted 82 fables in the index. I only expected a dozen or so for the size of the book. This book is a wonderful bargain, and I can't wait to read it to my children!

Aesop's Fables 4 reviews
Random House Books for Young Readers, 1997
Aesop's Fables Illustrated by Charles Santore This is a favorite book for both my boys 7 and 9. The art work is very boy appealing and beautiful for mom too. There is a triple page pull out for The Hare and the Tortoise featuring all the animals in the book and the Tortoise crossing the finish line. My oldest son loves the art work for the Bear and the Bees. While my younger son enjoys the art from The Grasshopper and the Ants. We all ...

The Fabled Fourth Graders of Aesop Elementary School 4 reviews Candace Fleming
Schwartz & Wade, 2007
Wicked, awesome story "It was hysterical, hilarious, as well as had good morals. It taught us good things and funny things that we enjoyed very much." These are the comments of my fourth graders that I just read the book to. They thought it was a great book and are wondering if there is a sequel. If so, they want to read it! Candace Fleming is a great author that engaged my students from the first chapter.

Beautiful, Well-Written Fable Book I can't believe someone would think this book is "just OK"...My 3 year old daughter loves fairy tales and I wanted to introduce her to fables. I bought several books I thought she would enjoy, but she wasn't really into them, until I bought this book. Aesop's Fables (Oxford World's Classics) Aesop
Oxford University Press, USA, 2008
The fables of Aesop have become one of the most enduring traditions of European culture, ever since they were first written down nearly two millennia ago. Aesop was reputedly a tongue-tied slave who miraculously received the power of speech; from his legendary storytelling came the collections of prose and verse fables scattered throughout Greek and Roman literature. First published in English by Caxton in 1484, the fables and their morals ...
