The Original African Heritage Study Bible
God is Awesome.... This Bible has actually opened my eyes to information not found in my 65 years of Bible study.... Every Family should own one of these.... I now have a different perspective of how God uses who He chooses in order to do His will and that no one race or ethnicity is any better than another.... Also, I can now show my children's Sunday School class how each race had an ...

Indispensable
Adding to the extensive "bookshelf" of literature on the African-American experience in the United States, Dr Berlin goes to great lengths to chronicle, analyze and detail the four significant migrations of Afro Americans, beginning with the first slave ships of the 16th Century, ending the book with a commentary about our present state in this Fourth Migration, our new President Barak Obama, and ...

If you plan to go to Africa or deal with Africans, read this book!
How many africans deal with money and property really doesn't make sense to us. Of course, how we deal with it doesn't make sense to them. So, this is a natural area for misunderstanding and tension. Set aside a week to read it and take time between chapters to absorb what you've read. If you're like me, you won't be able to accept it, but you'll be mentally prepared for it, lessening the major ...

A Window into American History
More than a book of speeches, this solemn and profound book is a window into the history (or should I say plight?) of African Americans. Of many sagacious passages, here are a few highlights: Fellow citizens, I will not enlarge further on your national inconsistencies. The existence of slavery in this country brands your republicanism as a sham, your humanity as a base pretence, and your ...

Surprised
Currently taking "Introduction To African American Literature" and I thought this book was going to some boring standarized book like the rest but I was surprised how well the editors chose the content. The content is just perfect for the course. Being an avid listener of the blues I loved the selection used in the "vernacular" chapter. great book.

I love this textbook. Though much of my learning comes from taking the class, I have learned so much about African American history simply by reading this text. It's great!
Africans: The History of a Continent (African Studies)

John Iliffe

A history of Africa for the 21st century.
Iliffe's 'Africans' is the most distinguished and intelligent brief history of Africa yet written. Dry, and at times dense with information, it nonetheless succintly and brilliantly outlines the history of this complex and fascinating continent from earliest man to the democratic movements of the 1990s. Centred around a thesis that the key to Africa's history is population change, Iliffe ...

The Best Quick Guide
If you only buy one field guide to take with you to East Africa, this is the one. My only complaint is that it is weak on uncommon birds, owing to the tremendous diversity of birds to be found there. I studied the book fairly hard before I went to Tanzania and found myself well prepared when I got there. My copy is covered in Serengeti dirt now, and I'm so glad I had it while I was there.

This is addressed to all of the reviewers who didnt give this a 5 star. I'm not going to bash or anything. Because that is not the type of person that i represent myself as. However i must express certain truth rather if its liked or not. Afterall, for some to give Dr Afrika bad reviews and try to criticize what he knows "which is far beyond any of us". I recently read Maggie's book and was very delighted with it. I have never owned a bird, but have always been fascinated by them. This book really put some things in perspective for a complete novice on the nature of these birds. I think it is a very good guide for those of us who know absolutely nothing about them but would like to. Maggie was recently a guest on our online radio show and it was ...

Although this book focuses on a familiar theme in educational circles, that of how to reach African-American children in school, it focuses on a variety of areas where educators should pay attention. It does not conclude that only African-American teachers can teach African-American children. On the contrary, author Gladson-Billings highlights teachers from different ethnic backgrounds. Her ...
