The Outer Whorl 8 reviews Neal A. Schier
Xlibris Corporation, 2007
Great Read! I really enjoyed this book. I am a frequent airline passenger but an outsider from the community of pilots who fly the big jets. The book provided a glimpse into the experiences and thinking of one pilot. It is a fascinating collection of stories infused with humor and poignant moments.
I highly recommend the book to anybody interested in flying or the airlines.

Your Father's Voice: Letters for Emmy About Life with Jeremy--and Without Him After 9/11 16 reviews Lyz Glick, Dan Zegart
St. Martin's Press, 2004
Very Heartwrenching and Inspiring I was very anxious to read this book since I read an article on a Reader's Digest magazine about a year ago and so I requested my local library to buy it. I read it in a week, I am pretty sure I could've read it in two days if it wasn't because I have a lot of homework. All I can say is that I loved "Your Father's Voice". It is very well-written and moving.
Lyz Glick carefully tells the story ...

Airline Without A Pilot - Leadership Lessons/Inside Story of Delta's Success, Decline and Bankruptcy 11 reviews Harry, L. Nolan
Targetmark Books (Management Advisory Services), 2005
Peter Drucker type writing style - easy to read, valuable information with key management points expressed succinctly The book is an easy read. It is well organized and flows logically. In addition, it has slightly larger type with plenty of white space for improved readability.
The author writes in a style similar to Peter Drucker, one of my favorite business writers. He expresses valuable key management points in a succinct, easy to understand way.
The author brings his vast consulting experience ...

Turbulence on the Ground - PanAm and beyond 22 reviews Ed Parrey
RuroAnik Publishers, 2000
The Adventures of Peter King at Pan Am Ed's book was a delight to read. His knowledge of the airline industry, combined with his own unique personal experiences, have all the right ingredients to make this book hard to put down once you've started reading it. I particularly appreciated Ed's wonderful sense of humor and was literally howling while reading of his exploits at the cargo building in New York, as well as his overseas ...

Pilots of the Line: On Being an Airline Pilot Before and Since 9-11-2001. 13 reviews Sky Masterson
iUniverse, Inc., 2004
A 5 star rating is really an insult . . . it's at least a 7 I always hate it when the media "get's it wrong" about aircraft, flying, pilots . . . the world I share with Sky. This exceptional collection tells the story from a human perspective that is, frankly, so close to the truth it's scary. I have been that guy, in a training trance, on the way to my proficiency check.
This story should appeal to two audiences: those who would like the vicarious ...

The Essential Guide To Becoming A Flight Attendant 48 reviews Kiki Ward
Kiwi Productions, 2000
Book leaves you ready to get the job I bought this book for a friend of mine. She read it and got all the hints to be a flight attendant, well really to get the job after difficult interview processes. She wasn't a FA but now she have worked for 2 airlines (AIR NOSTRUM and CLICKAIR). Fascinating, explicit and encouraging. 2-thumbs-up.

Reclaiming the Sky: 9/11 and the Untold Story of the Men and Women Who Kept America Flying 11 reviews Tom Murphy
AMACOM, 2006
9/11 - an honest perspective What strikes me most about this book is the honesty, time and care taken by the author in ensuring that the story told is true to the maturing experiences of those involved. I am sure that it would have been relatively easy for Mr. Murphy to rush a book out, given his proximity to the people and events of that terrible day. But he didn't do that. This approach must have required great patience ...

A must read for airline pilots I am a pilot for American airlines and think this is a must read for anyone in the airline industry. If you think your company couldn't fold, you need to read what happened to Pan Am. Its also an entertaining read. I highly recommend this book.

The Limits of Expertise: Rethinking Pilot Error and the Causes of Airline Accidents 6 reviews R. Key Dismukes, Benjamin A. Berman, ...
Ashgate Publishing, 2007
Breathes life into accident reports The authors have applied insights from cognitive psychology to nineteen flight-crew-related accidents. In place of the dry narratives of accident reports, we are presented with compelling three-dimensional accounts in which pilots are routinely faced with time pressure, the need to make judgments under uncertainty, and rare but potentially lethal system failures. In examining each accident, the ...

Airlines Worldwide: More Than 300 Airlines Described and Illustrated in Colour 5 reviews B. I. Hengi, Neil Lewis
Aerofax, 1998
Unexpectedly thorough Every obscure airline is covered. I liked the way that each airline was given its own page. Specific information about vehicle identification numbers was not given, which I think helped clarify the presentation. Still, the fleet size by airplane type was there.

The Art of the Airways 5 reviews Geza Szurovy
Zenith Press, 2002
Superb Book This is a superb book. The posters are gorgeous and interesting-such as evocative scenes from North Africa in the 1930's and an airplane where the passenger seats were in the wing root. The text is intelligent and concise. Overall the book transports you to times and places far away. We have watched people aged 8 to 80 with no special interest in airlines spend far more time with it than they ...

a must for airline pilot cadidates I not only read the book, I met with the author to prepare for my interview. It was most helpful in my getting hired by a major airline. I gave the book to a friend and he also was hired by my airline. He then gave it to someone else. (Sorry, Irv.) This book is a definite must.

A book to keep forever I loved this book! It's the first 9/11 book I've seen that let's the people involved with the aftermath tell the story rather than the author. If you like Studs Terkel, you'll love this book, and if you don't know him you'll like it anyway. The oral chronicle combined with the pictures will produce a variety of emotions. This is the kind of book you'll want to keep, buy for your kids and save ...
