Just Great / Muy Divertido
Just finished reading Chiquita. Very entertaining. You never know if what you are reading is true or false, and the description of the characters, places, etc. just great. The author has this kind of humor, you know he is enjoying himself writing those outrageous situations. Reminded me of Cien Años de Soledad, or Pantaleón y las Visitadoras.
La voluntad y la fortuna / Will and Fortune
Carlos Fuentes
Alfaguara, 2008
As Cain and Abel, two brothers confront each other for their father's lover, the most powerful man in the country. La voluntad y la fortuna is the great novel of Mexico s past and the present of a Narconation . An incredible and real story; Fuente s most awaited novel. Caressed by the gentle nighttime waves of a beach in the Pacific Ocean, the severed head of Josue Nadal remembers, digresses and tells its story. It knows that in the course of ...

Exquisitely Crafted
This was my favorite book in the series, with Twilight as a close second. As a reader, you are really brought into the story and get to experience all of the confusion and angst as it happens. I loved the dialogue, how there was humor and commonality between the Edward and Jacob characters. It seemed very authentic to me. The story was crafted with care and the emotional impact of this book made ...

Just a masterpiece
I got this book as it was recommended by a person I love a lot. She told me that this will be a good reading and she was absolutely right. The way how Mario Vargas Llosa describes every single place, situation and feelig is just something that gets you into the history pretty quickly. It was really hard to stop reading it since i started it. That is why I finished it just in 2 nights. Mischiefs ...

400 años and still a jewel

Could not stop reading!!!
This is my first book by Perez-Reverte and I just loved it. The easy flow of the story keeps you wanting more and more. Very realistic, when you are reading you are not sure whether is the description or real events (if any) it transports the reader to the different scenarios, fascinating, interesting. Also, i need to mention the use of mexican slang by the author made it feel extra real, like ...

Twilight RULES!
Ok, to all the people that think this book sucks, are totally WRONG! This book is awesome, I have read all 4 books from Bella's point of veiw. And I can't wait for the next four but from Edward's point of veiw to come out. If you like romance, action, and fanasty then this book is for you! I think it is inapporiate for kids of a young age, well, at least the 4th book is! Well, that is all. p.s ...

Couldn't put it down
I opened this book out of curiosity, intending to just read the first paragraph, but once I started I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book in one weekend. I'm not a native Spanish speaker, but this book was easy for me to read. The author paints vivid pictures of the Saharan desert and of all the characters of the novel without resorting to obscure, flowery words that you wouldn't hear ...

Best book I have read in a long time
(Excerpted from the back cover of the book). Such reflejos are the subject of the book, which is listed as an ...

Arturo Perez-Reverte
Alfaguara, 2008
This is not a fictional tale nor a history book, nor does it have-strictly speaking-a main character, as there were countless men and women involved in the events that took place in Madrid in 1808. Heroes and cowards, victims and executioners, history kept the names of most of them. The people, places, and events recounted here are real, as are much of the words that are spoken. In this book, Arturo Perez-Reverte transforms the obscure and ...

feminist detective fiction
Nuestra Senora de la Soledad is a fabulously written detective novel with a twist. It graciously transcends the pre-established boundaries of detective fiction. While containing all of the key elements of the traditional detective novel, Nuestra Senora de la Soledad endows them with a new vitality. This novel, rich in dualities of all sorts, takes place in both Chile and Mexico. The ...

Great for Spanish language learners
I developed a lesson plan comparing Christmas in Latin America with Christmas in the U.S. for my preschool Spanish program. This book was excellent! The pictures made it easy to understand and the comparison of the two cultures was built right in. Following the story is a pictoral explanation of Christmas and the Day of the Three Kings as well.
