Brooks Cole, 2007

Precalculus: Matheatics for Calculus: 5th Edition (with CD-rom)
I have never used the CD, but the book is okay. If you are going to take calculus in the future than you should get a cheaper precalculus book and save some money. This is essentially the same as the 4th edition, except the price tag. Only get if you absolutely must for a class.

Algebra: Structure and Method Book 119 reviews
Richard G. Brown

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2000

Far better than most others
This is a well thought out Algebra textbook. I started teaching from it earlier this year and have grown to appreciate it very much. I am especially pleased the more I compare this to other books. Most math books these days are little more than pretty colors, crazy fonts, neat pictures, lots of distractions, and very little actual math instruction. This book, on the other hand, actually ...

College Algebra (3rd Edition) (Beecher/Penna/Bittinger Series)2 reviews
Judith A. Penna, Marvin L. Bittinger

Addison Wesley, 2007

Great book and self-explanatory
I used this book for an online class with little to no teacher support and was able to make it all the way through with an A. The examples are great and the descriptions easy to understand. This is a wonderful textbook.

College Physics
Raymond A. Serway, Jerry S. Faughn, ...

Brooks Cole, 2008

While physics can seem challenging, its true quality is the sheer simplicity of fundamental physical theories--theories and concepts that can enrich your view of the world around you. COLLEGE PHYSICS, 8e, provides a clear strategy for connecting those theories to a consistent problem-solving approach, carefully reinforcing this methodology throughout the text and connecting it to real-world examples. For students planning to take the MCAT exam, ...

Kiss My Math: Showing Pre-Algebra Who's Boss2 reviews
Danica McKellar

Hudson Street Press, 2008

Buy this for your daughter
This smart and funny book teaches girls that it's OK to be smart, and that they are perfectly capable of kicking a little pre-algebra butt. The topic is serious. In the prologue, McKellar writes that "lots of people change their majors and abandon their dreams just to avoid a couple of math classes in college." Girls in particular often use their fear of math to keep them from learning the ...

Linear Algebra and Its Applications, Third Updated Edition10 reviews
David C. Lay

Addison Wesley, 2005

A very good introduction to linear algebra
The highest quality of a book is the ability to teach yourself from it. Lay's book is very self-teachable because it is written in a non-pretentious, explanatory way, making sure you get the big picture while making sure you can do the little details. It reminds me of Griffiths books in physics. It is a little proof light, so I can respect that a mathematician who is into analysis might ...

Neil A. Campbell, Jane B. Reece, ...

Benjamin Cummings, 2005

Good introductory biology text
This is a great text for anyone taking an introductory college-level biology course. The writing style is simple and easy to understand, unlike many other science textbooks. Despite being very easy to read, it contains a good amount of information.

Algebra and Trigonometry9 reviews
Michael Sullivan

Prentice Hall, 2007

Please read this review!!!!
1)Michael Sullivan (Sr.) is one of the four or five best writers of math textbooks on today's scene. If you can find a textbook written by him that fits whatever current math course you are in buy the book sight unseen. You will be more than happy that you did. 2)As far as this book is concerned, I used it from chapter 1 to the end (every section of every chapter) and did every problem in the ...

BEST BOOK EVER
Don't listen to what the other people are saying. I got first hand experience on this book. I must say that this is probably the best and most easy to understand math book i have ever used. The answer key in the back allows the user to assure that their answers are correct. If you are considering buying this book, i must say YES, DEFINATELY BUY THIS BOOK, IT WILL BE WORTH YOUR WHILE!!!!

Intermediate Algebra1 review
Margaret L. Lial, John Hornsby, ...

Addison Wesley, 2007

Intermediate algebra (lial)
This book is confusing. The sample examples are not helpful when completing the problems as they get harder. The disc for the computer is nothing more than a person working out the the examples in the beginning of each section so if you have a question on to do a specific problem this disc will not help you.

Algebra 1: Practice Workbook With Examples8 reviews

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2000

Wonderful supplement to the textbook
I am a math tutor who works with students at many different levels. I recently bought this book to use with one of my students. I like this book because it matches each of the sections in the accompanying textbook. As the title of this workbook says, it is "practice workbook with examples" and there are indeed examples with each section. We are using this to supplement the work the ...

Precalculus Seventh Edtition3 reviews
Ron Larson, Robert P. Hostetler

Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006

Precalculus the right way
I used Larson's Precalculus 6th edition which to my knowledge is not being sold anymore. I don't think much was changed from the 6th to the 7th editions so I feel I can offer a credible review of this 7th edition. The sections of each chapter are succint: to the point and coherently explained. Examples using the concepts explained immediately follow and end-of-chapter problems increase with ...

The result is an easy-to-use, comprehensive text that is the best edition yet.

Algebra for Dummies32 reviews
Mary Jane Sterling

For Dummies, 2001

Does Exactly What it is Supposed to Do
This is NOT an algebra textbook and it was never meant to be one. It's meant to SUPPLEMENT a textbook. I have an extremely hard time understanding math books and math teachers. I've always been that way. I've repeated Pre-Algebra and Algebra so many times it'd make your head spin. Well, this gives me a second explanation to turn to when I don't understand the one in my Algebra book. I own or ...
