The Ghost and Mrs. McClure (Haunted Bookshop Mystery) 38 reviews Alice Kimberly
Berkley, 2004
The Ghost and Mrs. McClure This is a very enjoyable book with very real likable characters, except for the ghost, he isn't "very real". It is a nice mystery that brings in characters, working together, in a small northeast American town. I have since read all of the books in this series and have enjoyed them very much.

Alice: Alice Roosevelt Longworth, from White House Princess to Washington Power Broker 18 reviews Stacy A. Cordery
Penguin (Non-Classics), 2008
Alice: Alice Roosevelt In this biography author Stacy Cordery succeeeds in making her subject come alive. Alice Roosevelt was the pop star of her day just 100 years ago and was the center of attention in Washington DC from the time her father was in the White House until her death almost 80 years later. Using primary sources, Alice's letters and diaries gave the writer the opportunity to paint a vivid portrait in ...

The Ghost and the Dead Deb (Haunted Bookshop Mystery) 17 reviews Alice Kimberly
Berkley, 2005
A Good Series Becomes Great I love this series! I was iffy on the first book wondering just how the author was going to convince me that there was a palpable heat between a ghost and a very much alive young woman, but she did, and now I'm into this series for the long haul. The frequent glimpses into Jack's past were enjoyable and the construct of Penelope joining him is an interesting twist with room to grow. This entry ...

The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life 53 reviews Alice Schroeder
Bantam, 2008
American knowledge Is this a biography or is it a history book? It actually serves as both with some wonderful threads to help find out more about American History during that (this) era, if one wishes to look. On the other hand with so many foot notes, one may find it a little intimidating but in this particular instance, the foot notes are a valuable asset to the book, and not additional distractions. Well ...

Disney's Alice in Wonderland and Mary Blair's sumptuous art together! Disney's Alice in Wonderland, as told through the gorgeous art work of Mary Blair, makes for one very spectacular book! Mary Blair (1911-1978) was one of Disney's most brilliant conceptual designers, who contributed in the creations of such great film classics as Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. Mary Blair gave Disney 34 years of her gorgeous and vivid art, which will always stand ...

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: A Pop-up Adaptation 54 reviews Lewis Carroll
Little Simon, 2003
Family Treasure I purchased this book because of the last page. I had seen it at my Book Club and knew my grandchildren would love it. They love peaking down the rabbits hole and finding the additional pop ups on each page. A book you will definately want to pass on down the family. Truly a classic come to life.

The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition 44 reviews Lewis Carroll
W. W. Norton & Company, 1999
Review of The Annotated Alice The book arrived promptly via standard shipping. I purchaed this book to replace a much earlier and well-read edition of The Annotated Alice. The dust cover and the book arrived in excellent condition. I am very pleased with the book and Amazon's service. As you may have guessed, I very much like children's literature and find that more often than not, the content is far more interesting to ...

The Art of Simple Food: Notes, Lessons, and Recipes from a Delicious Revolution 64 reviews Alice Waters
Clarkson Potter, 2007
Best Cookbook I Own This is the cookbook I return to again and again. The recipes are clear and simple and perfect for weeknight cooking, but the results are always fantastic. Often I have high hopes for a recipe and then it doesn't turn out so great, but everything I've made from this book has been DELICIOUS. You'll need to use high-quality ingredients to get those great results, but that's kind of what Alice ...

Alice's Restaurant 48 reviews Arlo Guthrie
Grove Press, 1968
A memory of idealism & shadows As another Thanksgiving approaches, those of a certain age invariably hear the strains of "Alice's Restaurant" playing in their heads. Which means I'll be watching this somewhat uneven but thoughtful movie once more, reacquainting myself with what are now legendary days. I'm sure they seem a bit implausible & unreal to those who didn't live through the times ... but rest assured, the shambling, ...

The Drama of the Gifted Child: The Search for the True Self 78 reviews Alice Miller
Basic Books, 2008
A Significant Piece of the Puzzle Reading books about psychology, especially books dealing with childhood trauma, is a bit like looking into a shattered mirror. Some parts will accurately reflect aspects of one's own psyche; other parts will be too distorted to have any relevance. As far as mirrors go, I think Alice Miller's "The Drama of the Gifted Child" provides for excellent viewing.
The core of the book is about ...

Lucky: A Memoir 256 reviews Alice Sebold
Back Bay Books, 2002
Precise Memoir The differences between Sebold's memoir and fiction are vast. In "Lucky" as opposed to "The Lovely Bones" words are hammered in, staccato and short, understated. I liked both books, but I do have to point out it is as if they were written by different writers. In looking over the reviews people seem to hate one and love the other or vice versa, and I think it's a shame. Lovely Bones is like a ...

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass 86 reviews Lewis Carroll
BookSurge Classics, 2002
As Wonderful a Tale as has Ever Been Told I couldn't put it down, man. I checked this book out at the local library and read through the opening 130 pages in one sitting until I was falling asleep at three in the morning. Lewis Carroll's classic tale of adventure and fantasy "Alice in Wonderland" is one of the best books I've ever read. The story is about a little girl, Alice, who falls into a very deep rabbit hole, seemingly straight to ...

The Almost Moon 1 review Alice Sebold

oh dear What a disappointment after Alice Sebold's previous two books. I enjoyed Lovely Bones so much that I bought a copy for my mum. I cried at Lucky which I read after Lovely Bones and was so exicited when I saw there was a new novel out. The Almost Moon just didn't do it for me, sorry Alice.
