In the Service of Dragons II (In the Service of Dragons, Book 2)17 reviews
Robert, Stanek

Reagent Press Books for Young Readers, 2007

Read it!!!
This book in my eyes is so much more captivating then the LOTR trilogy. In the LOTR trilogy there were points where I had to put the book down, so far, in the "kingdoms and elves" and "service of dragons", I havent found a point where i wanted to. The author gave the reader a world to sink into, and characters with real personalities. Overall one of the better fantasy books I have read.

Desiree63 reviews
Annemarie Selinko

William Morrow & Co, 1953

A completely charming Desiree's life story, from spurned fiance of Napoleon to Queen of two countries
I'm a certified anglophile, when it comes to history. This is probably because I am one-half Angelo Celtic and so the history I read about when I read about England, Scotland and Ireland, is in some sense my own. It is a basic human urge to understand where we come from after all. Anyway, this is my way of saying I don't "get" France. I can't speak French (and so in books when there's some French ...

The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches (Reader's Choice Edition, Keeper Martin's Tales Book 1) (Keeper ...85 reviews
Robert Stanek

Reagent Press Books for Young Readers, 2008

Enter the Kingdoms!
My 14 yr. old son is a huge fan of the Kingdoms books and I must admit I am too. Robert Stanek is indeed America's Tolkien, a gifted story-teller with a knack for creating believable worlds and fully-realized characters. Many of the characters become like old friends and even the minor characters truly are interesting and real. The story itself is detailed and rich but Stanek doesn't allow the ...

Robert Stanek

Reagent Press Books for Young Readers, 2007

Excellent, Beautifully Written and Wonderfully Illustrated!
About a year ago I decided to start reading 'The Kingdoms and the Elves' series because I had heard so much praise about them. When I read the first one, I was totally amazed and by the second one Robert Stanek was my new favorite author. In this opening volume, Stanek takes you into the unforgettable fantasy universe of Ruin Mist. Ruin Mist was once ruled by mighty dragons and titans, but ...

The King Arthur Flour Baker's Companion: The All-Purpose Baking Cookbook56 reviews
King Arthur Flour

Countryman Press, 2003

My Baking Bible
I received this book as a gift this past Christmas, and it is by far the most-used cookbook I own. I have a special penchant for baking, but am only still learning (before this cookbook, I'd only ever really baked cookies). I can say, then, that this cookbook is excellent for the learning baker. This is the book I used to learn to bake bread (like their delicious and easy Vermont Maple ...

Blues All around Me: The Autobiography of B. B. King22 reviews
B. B. King, David Ritz

Harper Paperbacks, 1999

A MAN AND HIS BLUES... the great BB KING...
His real name is Riley B. King, the B.B. stands for Blues Boy, and he is known as "America's ambassador of the blues". A recommended enjoyable, good read about growing up and into music, self-taught guitar, remarkable attitudes of a man who faced prejudice and hate with an even keel. A performer who went on stage even when he was suffering from a bad case of flu. B.B. King took his music to ...

In the Service of Dragon = addiction
Just a warning here, these books are like potato chips, it's very difficult to eat only one!!! ...and then you'll find yourself walking around singing Eldrick's song of the tree brothers or longing to reread the part where Vilmos plays Edward in King's Mate or wanting to jump ahead to get to the next trio match. I bought this book around Christmastime and found the story to be fascinating. As ...

The Cabinet of Wonders: The Kronos Chronicles: Book I (The Kronos Chronicles)25 reviews
Marie Rutkoski

Macmillan Young Listeners, 2008

Take me to Prague, please
Prague is a city of alchemy and golems and marionettes, of dungeons and towers and ancient manuscripts, of music and magic and tumbled tombstones. It is so beautiful. Maybe the most beautiful city I've ever seen. Certainly the most magical, and Marie Rutkoski captures that so well in this marvelous book, the premise of which grows out of a grim city legend about the famous "astonomical clock." ...

The Liberation of Gabriel King10 reviews
K.L. Going

Listening Library (Audio), 2005

My 10 year old son loves this book
I bought this book for Christmas for my 10 year old (4th grade). He will read a chapter and then come find me and read it to me all over again because he thinks it is so funny. He has to read 1/2 hour everyday for school requirements and he will continue to read this book for over an hour. Gets him away from the computer and GameCube games. Hurray.

Being Of Two Minds10 reviews
Pamela F. Service

Topeka Bindery, 1995

Original and Fun to Read
One of the many books that pushed me into enjoying the science fiction genre. The concept for this book is incredibly original and really appealed to me when I was younger and still appeals to me many years later. This story alternates between the point of view of the two main characters - Connie, a typical American teen and Rudy, the crown prince of a small (fictional) European country. They ...

Sam: The Minuteman12 reviews
Nathaniel Benchley

Harpercollins Childrens Books, 1969

4 1/2* An I CAN READ History Book by Benchley and Lobel
In plain language, and with just a bit of humor, prolific author Nathaniel Benchley (son of the great humorist Robert) and the equally experienced Arnold Lobel tell the story of the beginnings of the American Revolution, as seen through the eyes of a young boy. On the night of Paul Revere's famous ride, Sam accompanies his father to the village green. The pensive faces of the Minutemen and the ...

All But My Soul : Abuse Beyond Control9 reviews
Jeanne I. King

Mind Matters Pub, 2001

Read This---It's invaluable if you are abused.
I'm absolutely flabbergasted by this book--not by the actions of her wretched ex-husband Les, but by the continual abuse of the LEGAL system funded by his mindless, destructive pathology. I, too, was married to an abusive physician, more emotional than physical. A rude, ranting power-monger. When I finally gathered the strength to make a move (and it took YEARS), the legal system was there for ...

Such A Good Book!!!
Once Upon A Curse is a book that every book lover should read (after you've read The Frog Princess and Dragon's Breath of course)... It has time travel, fairys, dragons, harpies, and other magical creatures too. I love In the Service of DRAGONS!
This book was amazing. I started reading this series because the kid across the street was already reading it. So then I picked up the first one and kept going and going It's like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars all rolled into one. It's really entertaining and I couldn't stop reading. I read all 4 in 2 weeks. I'd recommend this for anyone who likes fiction.

Simple, Warm, Elegant and (best of all) Easy.
The Thimbleberries line of fabrics are so warm and yummy they are like snuggling in your mothers lap. The patterns in this book are simple, uncongested and just plain calming. They almost force you to slow down and soak up the warmth of a fireplace and the security of your home. If your not on the war path to really impress your friends or to out-do the Jones's than get this for some good ole ...

The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt (Landmark Books)8 reviews
Elizabeth Payne

Topeka Bindery, 1999

An Effective Introduction to Ancient Egypt for Children
Written for children who are independent readers, Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt was, nevertheless, a fascinating introduction to Ancient Egypt for all my children. My younger daughter was in first grade at the time and needed some help with the reading, but the stories themselves were of great interest to her. It was fun for me to see all three of them learn about the Rosetta Stone and other ...
