The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume I: The Greatest Science Fiction Stories of All Time, Chosen by the ... 42 reviews
Tor Books, 2003
A classic...never out of style I was new to some of these stories. And I was sorry I had not read them years before.Since they date back to the 1950s in many cases, you would think they would seem dated. And some are...but there are so many gems that are worth reading, and reading again. They have aged well. What is a good yarn, written well, will never go out of style.

Bon Appetit, Y'All: Recipes and Stories from Three Generations of Southern Cooking 41 reviews Virginia Willis
Ten Speed Press, 2008
Excellent Many cookbooks contain interesting recipes... but my favorite cookbooks also count as a good read. This one is a new favorite -- my mother was GRITS (Girl Raised In The South), so many of the foods are familiar to me, and I am happy to have more recipes. And I spent a happy afternoon reading, which is always a big plus for me. Great addition to my collection.

Crescent, 1991
Jan Brett Night Before Christmas I LOVE Jan Brett's books! I buy them anytime I see them whether on sale, old ones on Amazon as remainders, or new.. They make great gifts. I have a backup of many to give to children, particularly my granddaughters. The illustrations in this one are so beautiful it is really a keepsake to save as well as enjoy. Give it as a gift and you will make some child very happy and a parent happy, too.

The Vegetable Gardener's Bible: Discover Ed's High-Yield W-O-R-D System for All North American Gardening ... 58 reviews Edward C. Smith
Storey Publishing, LLC, 2000
Just Plain Wow! Hoping to make the most of my new garden, I picked up this book and hoped some of the techniques would work. WOW doesn't even begin to describe how great this was. The techniques outlined in this book will take a relatively small garden and produce veggies like you've never imagined! I can hardly wait for next year when I'll have more time to build beds and plant even more! I really believe ...

Oddkins: A Fable for All Ages 40 reviews Dean R. Koontz, Phil Parks
Warner Books, 1988
One of the best story books ever I have been looking for a copy of this book for years. It was the 2nd book I read by Koontz and fell in love with it. I had read it over several times and fell into the story and art work everytime. Even though it's been over 10 years since I've last seen or read the story, I remember it as if I read it last week. I only wish it was more available for others to enjoy as well. This is ...

The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian: The Original Adventures of the Greatest Sword and Sorcery Hero of All Time! 94 reviews Robert E. Howard
Del Rey, 2003
The Master At His Best The sheer number of reviews should offer solid evidence of just how popular Robert E. Howard's creation Conan the Barbarian is. Though other writers have offered their take on this great character, to fully appreciate Conan one must begin and end with Howard. Nobody but nobody wrote sword and sorcery to equal Howard. I find it interesting all of the in depth analysis of both Howard and his work ...

The All American Boys 36 reviews Walter Cunningham
Ibooks, 2008
Outstanding! This guy is one opinionated s.o.b. - but this book is all the better for it. Because Walt Cunningham is aware of his limitations, and has the virtue of being right in his strongly-held opinions.
I'd recommend this book even for those not interested in space flight. To see the cut-throat office politics behind a smooth veneer... it's something that relates so much to many walks of life. The ...

Perfect Given to me to read by a friend, I could not put it down. Very few books outside the Catcher & The Rye have ever pulled off the first person narrative so well. I am giving this out to all of my brothers & sisters (7 of them) for Christmas.

In the Midst of It All 20 reviews
Strebor Books, 2007
Questions, Dilemna, Challenges... This was an excellent read. Superb writing skills and a story line which kept your interest. This is the sequel to "Another Man's Wife" which was outstanding also. I have recommended both books to my friends for a group therapy discussion. In life we never know what lies ahead however if we can continue to keep our heads up to the sky "In the Midst of it all" that itself is a blessing....Can't ...

Y'all Come Eat 21 reviews Jamie Deen, Bobby Deen
Meredith Books, 2008
Another helpful cookbook by the Deen Brothers I enjoyed the Deen Brothers' first cookbook, but I must say that I've been enjoying their second cookbook (this one) even more---if that is possible!
This cookbook is much more personal than the Deen Brothers' first cookbook. In the first cookbook , the brothers (Jamie and Bobby) shared with us some of the recipes that they developed with the inspirations from their travels.
This second ...

All the Little Live Things (Contemporary American Fiction) 18 reviews Wallace Stegner
Penguin (Non-Classics), 1991
Recommended companion reading This is my third Stegner novel including Angle of Repose and Crossing to Safety. All the Little Live Things has a more 'elemental' style than the other 2 novels. It is compact and extremely logical. There is not a throwaway sentence in the book. For anyone looking for deeper, relevant background reading - I suggest these pre-requisities prior to reading Little Live Things: Shakespears 'The ...

All American, All The Way: The Combat History Of The 82nd Airborne Division In World War II 19 reviews Phil Nordyke, 2005
Very Extensive and Total History of a Great American Division This is a very extensive, impressive and total history of the 82nd airborne division, what was called by Generals in WWII as the greatest division of the time (of course the 101st airborne would probably argue that). The scope of this book is amazing. In its 776 pages (yes, it is long but very interesting), it lays out all the campaigns fought in WWII including Sicily, Salerno, Italy, Normandy, ...

All for the Union 22 reviews Robert Hunt Rhodes
Andrew Mowbray Pub, 1985
Following the footsteps It isn't easy to find quality diaries written so well from the Civil War sometimes; although this book will rank with in the top 10. Popularized and quoted often in Ken Burn's Civil War series on PBS, Rhodes' book about his life as a soldier come to life. Rhodes brings the excitement and patriotic fervor of being a new recruit in the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry early in the war. This patriotic ...
