The Exuma Guide: A Cruising Guide to the Exuma Cays : Approaches, Routes, Anchorages, Dive Sights, Flora, ...4 reviews
Stephen J. Pavlidis

Seaworthy Publications Inc., 2007

Essential and Comprehensive
I found the book to be the Bible for getting in and around the Exuma Cays. More importantly, the book nicely deals with the history, geography, flora and fauna of the cays. There is no way that a person should consider sailing, motoring or paddling into the Exumas without this book in hand. Too bad it was not printed on waterproof paper and bound with stainless steel staples. If your headed ...

Living With Wildness: An Alaskan Odyssey4 reviews
Bill Sherwonit

University of Alaska Press, 2008

a great, beautiful and thought-provoking book
Bill Sherwonit's Living with Wildness: An Alaskan Odyssey is a beautiful and thought-provoking book of essays. I very much enjoyed the way the essays captured the awesome beauty of Alaska while at the same time showed the complexity of the relationship between the wild land and the human beings living within it. There are some very sophisticated ideas that surface in the book, yet the book ...

The Intracoastal Waterway Chartbook, Norfolk, Virginia, to Miami, Florida (Intracoastal Waterway Chartbook: ...6 reviews
John J. Kettlewell

International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press, 2008

Excellent source... More than a set of charts!
Very usable in it's small page spiral format. Flipping pages as one cruises north or south is easy, and takes very little space at the helm. The annotations indicating marina locations save looking in separate guides when a stopping point is desired. Some obvious side trips (e.g. Banana River) are omitted and would have helped increase usefulness if included.

Butcher, Baker: A True Account of a Serial Murder2 reviews
Walter Gilmour, Leland E. Hale

Onyx, 1991

Finally a TRUE Crime Novel
This book is written by a real-life professional homicide investigator. Mr. Gilmour was an investigator with the Alaska State Troopers for many years and was, and still is, one of the most astute criminal investigators you will ever meet. This book details the incredible amount of work it takes to catch a serial killer. The most amazing part is that he has not made any changes to the story to ...

The Great, Great, Great Chicken War8 reviews
David de la Garza

Anchorage Press, 2007

From the perspective of an educator
I introduced this book to a group of fifth grade students, and the discussion that followed was incredible. The pictures and the stories led to a great discussion about trying to make sense of the world and the children's perspective on war and their desire to have peace in the world. Along with using the book as an introduction to a deeper discussion, the words and sentences that make up the ...

The Yellow Boat3 reviews
David Saar

Anchorage Pr, 1997

Underestimated show...
I feel that "The Yellow Boat" is a much underestimated show. Although the show is set up in such a way as would be enjoyable by kids, the theme of this show could only be understood by a mature reader/audience member. I performed this show my senior year in high school as the role of the father, and I must say that this tale struck me as few others have. When we first read through the script I ...

Mother Hicks5 reviews
Suzan Zeder

Anchorage Pr, 1986

Mother Hicks is a Witch People Say........
The fall of 1999 our Freshman & Sophmore class put on a production of the play Mother Hicks. I would like to say that it is one of the best palys I have ever been in. It had a great story line, and a cast you come to love. each role is no less important then the next, and is a superb show, for any level actor/actress.

Perfect Fit16 reviews
Brenda Jackson

Kensington, 2003

"Angelic Spice!!"
I couldn't put this novel down. Ms. Jackson is a great writer, a great storyteller. I've read many of her other books(some good and some so-so),and she's still all that. The way Ms. Jackson tells this story, it's like you're right in between Gabe and Sage. The way she describes where Gabe's house is located...hey I gotta go to Alaska now. I'm never disappointed when I read a Brenda Jackson novel, ...

Mukluks for Annabelle: Mukluks for Annabelle Is Based on the True Story of Annabelle, the Baby Elephant at ...
Dianne Barske

Publication Consultants, 1999

Mukluks for Annabelle is based on the true story of Annabelle, the baby elephant at the Alaska Zoo, and how she faced adapting to our Alaska environment. She truly had cold feet! An elephant in Alaska is certainly out-of-place, but it was Alaskan ingenuity and caring that eventually solved a little elephant's dilemma.
