The Anger Workbook: A 13-Step Interactive Plan to Help You... (Minirth-Meier Clinic Series)46 reviews
Les Carter, Frank Minirth

Thomas Nelson, 1992

Angry Young Man
I've browsed through many Anger Management books and found this one to be good. Despite the reviews about religion and Christianity I picked it up with an open, objective mind. As a person who has suffered with anger issues for more than 25 years I can say that I've had so much help from this book, even more help than my therapist. The impact of writing out personal things inside the book is ...

Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames54 reviews
Thich Nhat Hanh

Riverhead Trade, 2002

Essential reading
In a society where anger is "normal" this should be required reading. The author is one of the great spiritual teachers of our time and is very naturally a profound and compassionate psychologist. This is not about "getting it out". You learn to let those hot feelings cool so that you become less and less habituated to angry responses and discover more and more about self-control and, with ...

Howard Kassinove, Raymond Chip Tafrate

This Text is a Must Read!
Anger Management by Howard Kassinove and Raymond Tafrate is by far the most complete and up to date text for therapists. It is a must read resource for all environments, children, adults and families, as well as the workplace. The authors break down anger episodes into understandable segments in order to assess the client's anger intensity and frequency. Then they rebuild with techniques that ...

Anger: Handling a Powerful Emotion in a Healthy Way7 reviews
Gary Chapman

Northfield Publishing, 2007

Very Helpful
I did not realize how much anger I was holding on to and the effect it was having on me. I was able to see and admit my anger and then offer it up God. I feel a lot better and happier. I will be able to use what I read and apply it to the future as well. I learned ways to recognize my anger and constructive ways to resolve underlying issues.

The Anger Control Workbook9 reviews
Matthew McKay, Peter Rogers

New Harbinger Publications, 2000

Complete perfection in self-help book writing that actually WORKS
I love using self-help books as therapy: they are reasonably cheap and they mobilize you sometimes even better than a therapist - as you know you can't become passive or rely on someone else for your progress. Over the years, I've seen quite a few good self-help books, and God knows, I've been duped by a few unhelpful ones in glossy covers. It always puzzles me to see how some of these real ...

The Dance of Anger: A Woman's Guide to Changing the Patterns of Intimate Relationships90 reviews
Harriet Lerner

Harper Paperbacks, 2005

EVERYBODY needs this book!
EVERY married person, male or female, should read this book. Very well written, interesting, and knowledgable. My husband and I agree that if we would have read this book a year ago, we would not be separated and in counseling. I can't wait to read the rest of her books!

How to Take the Grrrr Out of Anger13 reviews
Elizabeth Verdick, Marjorie Lisovskis

Free Spirit Publishing, 2002

Great Book to Indentify & Deal With Anger
This is a great book to help children identify the physical signs of anger and to sort out the emotion they are feeling. It also teaches strategies to "tame your temper". I made a "cheat sheet" for my son to use when he gets angry with anger strategies. My 7 year son with autism uses strategies suggested in this book.

The Anger Trap: Free Yourself from the Frustrations that Sabotage Your Life19 reviews
Les Carter

Jossey-Bass, 2004

Insightful
I haven't completely finished this book yet but so far it has been very helpful. I have read numerous self help books over the years and find that most are not very useful. This one, however, is very insightful and certainly gives the reader a lot to think about. I think most people could truly benefit from this book. I am recommending it to friends and family.

The Anger Workbook for Women: How to Keep Your Anger from Undermining Your Self-Esteem, Your Emotional ...7 reviews

Anger: The Misunderstood Emotion9 reviews
Carol Tavris

Touchstone, 1989

A Good Companion to Lerner's The Dance of Anger.
Carol Tavris offers some very practical advice. Apart from when the expression of anger is intended to dissolve a relationship, anger becomes effective when: (1) the anger is directed at the offending person (telling friends may increase anger); (2) the expression satisfies your need to influence the situation and/or correct an injustice; and, (3) your approach seems likely to change the other ...

When Anger Hurts Your Relationship: 10 Simple Solutions for Couples Who Fight2 reviews
Kim Paleg, Matthew McKay

New Harbinger Publications, 2001

When Anger Hurts your Relationship
I have read many books on anger and for couples who have distorted anger, this one is the winner. I also recommend the book "Getting Over getting Mad", by Judy Ford. It explained the importance of anger in our lives and how it "is an indispensable emotion, which when used productively allows us to develop ourselves and our relationships. Its only "when anger covers up pain and fear", that it ...

Look Back in Anger (Plays, Penguin)10 reviews
John Osborne

Penguin (Non-Classics), 1982

Angry Young Rebel
"Look Back in Anger", first performed at London's Royal Court Theatre in 1956, is often cited as marking a theatrical revolution. The British theatre of the early fifties, dominated by playwrights like Noel Coward and Terence Rattigan, was widely regarded as genteel, well-mannered and middle-class. John Osborne's play can be seen as a deliberate reaction against those values. Its plot is ...

Hot Stuff to Help Kids Chill Out: The Anger Management Book15 reviews
Jerry Wilde

LGR Publishing, 1997

Hot Stuff is Hot Stuff
What a wonderful book. I read the reviews here before purchasing and my only reservation was with the "sarcastic" humor in the book. Actually, it is the humor that makes this book work. It was the bait that got my son hooked on the book. I bought this for my 8 year-old son. He started to read it immediately. The book is a book and a workbook where you do some introspection. When he saw there ...

Act on Life Not on Anger: The New Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Guide to Problem Anger5 reviews
Georg H. Eifert, Matthew McKay, ...

New Harbinger Publications, 2006

Transformational
This highly readable book is so much more than simply a resource for transforming the reader's relationship with problem anger. It contains a wealth of insight into what life is like for the vast majority of human beings, whose daily struggle with painful thoughts and feelings obscures the truth about their deepest sense of self. The good news is that people's most fundamental sense of self can ...

A Volcano in My Tummy: Helping Children to Handle Anger11 reviews
Eliane Whitehouse, Warwick Pudney

New Society Publishers, 1998

A Volcano in My Tummy
It was not what I thought. I thought it was a book to read to kids, instead it is a WONDERFUL workbook with ideas, activities, etc. Definately for teachers but very useful even for this grandma!

When Anger Hurts: Quieting the Storm Within, 2nd Edition19 reviews
Matthew McKay, Peter D., Ph.D. Rogers, ...

New Harbinger Publications, 2003

Immediately helped my anger problem!
This book has totally changed me and I HIGHLY recommend it over any other anger book out there. There are SO many books on anger, but this is the ONLY one you'll need. What got me in the direction of this book is that I was having a (violent) anger problem that ended in me hitting my boyfriend. (Yes, I am a woman, and I have had a physical anger problem.) So I have been in some serious ...

Letting Go of Anger: The Eleven Most Common Anger Styles And What to Do About Them4 reviews
Ronald T. Potter-Efron, Patricia S. Potter-Efron

New Harbinger Publications, 2006

What's Your Anger Style?
I was pleased to find out about this book from a review in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It categorizes anger into anger styles and tells what to do about them. A quiz with 30 yes or no questions helps you figure out your style. Many of us have learned unhealthy ways to deal with our own anger or that of others. The book advises letting go of our anger, and to clearly express our wants and ...
