Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small103 reviews
Ted Andrews

Llewellyn Publications, 1996

Fascinating
It is one of those kind of books that you always keep handy and take on trips. I know that with time it will have curled pages, yellow highlights, and frayed edges from all of the frequent use as a resource of information. The more you study the meaning of the animal, the more it will come to visit you! I have hummingbirds visiting me often!

Animals Should Definitely Not Act Like People14 reviews
Judi Barrett

Live Oak Media, 1991

Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing
This book is great!!!! Small children love it. There are the best illustrations of animals in trouble wearing clothes. My grandson especially loved the hen with an egg stuck in it's pants because we have a small flock of chickens. This book is a good laugh for little ones and one I'm asked to read again and again.

Barbara Kingsolver, Camille Kingsolver, ...

Harper Perennial, 2008

Eat your way to saving the earth
I have loved Barbara Kingsolver as an author of fiction, now as someone who has inspired me to change the way I buy food and feed my family. I have started asking questions, purchasing from a local farm and planted garlic! Small steps. This book is entertaining as well as informative.

Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior153 reviews
Temple Grandin, Catherine Johnson

Harvest Books, 2006

A Page-Turner... on Science!
Temple Grandin, PhD, has done something extraordinary: combined her experiences as an animal scientist and an autistic person to give us new insights into the amazing inner world of animals. In her irresistably fun, anecdotal style, Grandin describes the most recent research on the senses, the brain, and emotions, ultimately explaining our own feelings and actions as well as those of animals. ...

National Geographic Children's Books, 2006

Amazing Animal book!
I am a substitute teacher and I have spent the last 4 weeks in a first grade classroom. From the minute I brought the book into the classroom it has been the favorite of all the students especially the boys. They can't read all of it but they love looking up the animals and are excited to show me their favorite animals. It is a great book to expose kids of all ages to animals. The lizards, snakes ...

Animal: The Definitive Visual Guide to the World's Wildlife56 reviews
David Burnie

DK ADULT, 2005

Amazing Book!
Great! Very detailed information but not too lengthy. Nice for quick reference. Clear photographs. It's a thick book with lots of information but it is very organized. Not just about basic animals but nearly every known animals in the world and the areas they live in. I would recommended it for kids, teens, and adults alike.

Animal Farm (Literature Made Easy Series)1142 reviews
Iona MacGregor, Tony Buzan

Barron's Educational Series, 1999

Animal Farm....Your typical Happily Ever After?
Animal Farm begins as a tale of triumph over the human race for animals. Yet as it continues you realize the humans never really left. The pigs take over and become the one thing they swore they hated. The worst part is the other animals don't do anything about it and suffer, and whether they do in the future or not we never find out. If happy endings are your thing, forget about this book, ...

Barbara Kingsolver

Harper Perennial, 1991

Poetic
I am not a fan of poetry, but I enjoy the poetic way Barbara Kinsolver writes about nature, life, relationships and family. This is a thought provoking novel, touching and real.

The God of Animals: A Novel88 reviews
Aryn Kyle

Scribner, 2008

Well worth the time
A wonderful story of a girl and her father, the relationships with the people around them and the horses in their care. Whether you are an animal lover or not, this is a great read but be warned you will shed some tears if you are an animal lover. You will also love or hate each character, there will be no in between.

The Animal Dialogues: Uncommon Encounters in the Wild10 reviews
Craig Childs

Little, Brown and Company, 2007

Animal Dialogues - great read
I purchased "The Secret Knowledge of Water" by Craig Childs, and picked up the "Animal Dialogues" at the same time. After reading both books, I will buy more by this author. Vivid descriptions of places and happenings make his experiences come alive. The short chapters on each species give his own story and some scientific information on the animal as the story unfolds. I have learned much, and ...

500 Animals in Clay: Contemporary Expressions of the Animal Form (A Lark Ceramics Book)8 reviews
Lark Books

Lark Books, 2006

Fantastic Book!
I've been wanting to get into ceramics for a while and this book was just the thing to get my creative juices flowing. It has many (500 actually) beautiful pieces to admire, with such a wide array of styles. It's definitely not a "how to" book, with just enough info to get a basic idea of how each piece was created, but the beautiful photographs and variety makes it well worth purchasing.

The Social Animal11 reviews
Elliot Aronson

Worth Publishers, 2007

Where Psychology meets Culture
Aronson's emminently readable volume is packed with useful--if not always profound--insights and information that go a long way towards explaining many of the abnomal "normalities" of our own society. Although Aronson's volume is far from being preachy, it is difficult not to make certain connections within our own society that have the character of being drawn directly from Aronson's ...

Animal Farm (Cliffs Notes)21 reviews

good, but probably could be better
The author equates Old Major with Marx, Napoleon with Stalin, and Snowball with Trotsky. That's interesting, but isn't there more to say about Animal Farm?

Gerald Durrell

Penguin (Non-Classics), 2004

The Moral Animal: Why We Are, the Way We Are: The New Science of Evolutionary Psychology115 reviews
Robert Wright

Vintage, 1995

Great Style and Openness
Here is a lively discussion of evolutionary psychology and what it means for our views on human morality. Robert Wright has a very good writing style and a way of explaining EP that aids even those of us who have already read widely on the subject. Here he also uses Darwin's own life and experiences to illustrate the subject. The first section is about the sexes which, contrary to what some ...
