Archaeological Study Bible, Personal Size: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture2 reviews

Zondervan, 2007

The Bible Context for serious students
This book is as well put together as any I have seen. It's use by the serious student of the Bible will enlighten and help anyone's study. The book is written from the background of the Theological School that trains professional persons. The average person may find this book to be a challenge to read. I think that a layperson with a strong interest in the Bible will benefit. It is a solid ...

Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture73 reviews

Zondervan, 2006

Awesome
This is an awesome Bible. It has so many interesting details, but still not enough- but then I would have an even harder time reading the actual Scripture. I am really glad I own it.

Rome: An Oxford Archaeological Guide (Oxford Archaeological Guides)14 reviews
Amanda Claridge

Oxford University Press, USA, 1998

Excellent Guide to Ancient Rome
I just returned from Rome, using this book as my primary guide. We were able to identify almost every random bit of ancient archaelogy sticking out of the ground as we walked about the city, and if you've been to Rome, you'll understand how impressive that is. A major shortcoming that I noticed is that the book treats the ancient-era churches very lightly: while the myths of gods such as ...

Archaeological Study Bible, Personal Size2 reviews

Zondervan, 2007

Totally satisfied with my purchase.
This is a great Bible for anyone who likes historical context but doesn't have the education, resources, or time to go digging. Complaints that others made turned out not to be a big deal for me. The font size is just fine, as is the page thickness. The pages were stuck together a bit because of the gold on the outside, but they seem perfectly sturdy. I like this "personal size" as well. Love the ...

The Holy Land: An Oxford Archaeological Guide (Oxford Archaeological Guides)8 reviews
Jerome Murphy-O'Connor

Oxford University Press, USA, 2008

Invaluable
Recommended to me by an archaeolgist long active in Israel, I found this book quite helpful in appreciating a number of sites (and sights) I recently visited (and saw) in the Holy Land. For folks who are looking to learn more about various ancient sites than the typical tour guide can offer, this will be well worth its price. In addition to its being informative, I found the personality of its ...

Laser Ablation-ICP-MS in Archaeological Research

University of New Mexico Press, 2005

These fifteen essays explore the archaeological applications of an exciting new field of research in materials science. Since the first archaeometric uses of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) in the early 1980s, most applications have required the processing of solid samples with heat and/or strong acids. This is time consuming, expensive, and sometimes dangerous. An alternative sample-introduction technique, laser ablation (LA), became ...

Archaeological Study Bible, Large Print: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture3 reviews

Zondervan, 2007

Excellent addition to your biblical library
Keep in mind that this review is written by a man who doesn't care for the NIV translation. However, I found that: the history, archaeological facts, maps, archaeological photographs (almost 500), NIV translation, and cultural background make this a logical addition to my resource library. The book I have comes with a CD that includes the NIV translation, photographs and maps (I haven't looked at ...

Archaeological Mexico 2 Ed: A Guide to Ancient Cities and Sacred Sites9 reviews
Andrew Coe

Avalon Travel Publishing, 2001

An Excellent Overview
I think that the reviewers that gave this book lower scores may have had misplaced expectations. While this book gives a reasonable amount of information about each of the sites that it covers, it does not provide an in depth treatise on them. It does, however, provide sufficient detail for a starting point and, more importantly, is invaluable in identifying the major sites and in recommending ...
