Macho!21 reviews
Victor Villasenor

Arte Publico Press, 2007

Great incorporation of Cesar Chavez into a quality narrative
I read this book due to the great enjoyment provided me by the 'The Rain of Gold'. This book is much shorter and I anticipated that it would be difficult to provide the deep character development or interaction but I was wrong. Villasenor does an excellent job detailing the travils of Roberto and really showing the growth and inner turmoil being experienced by the heroine. I also believe the ...

Lazzi: The Comic Routines of the Commedia dell'Arte (PAJ Books)3 reviews

PAJ Publications, 1983

I laughed out loud!
Of all the books out there concerning commedia dell'arte, I found this one to be one of the most informative and useful (and definitely the FUNNIEST!--and isn't that the point?). Mel Gordon clearly and concisely defines what lazzi are, and presents a series of them according to type; quite appropriate, considering commedia performers often kept notebooks full of such routines. One discovers ...

Cennino d'Andrea Cennini, Jr. Daniel V. Thompson

Dover Publications, 1954

Cennino's Handbook, Still Illuminating
Art, genuine art, is a pleasure not only in the thrill of color and line but in its procedure and materials. In fifteenth-century Florence, an artist named Cennino d'Andrea Cennini compiled a handbook for contemporary and future painters to consult in their drawing and painting from the beginning, in choosing their ingredients, mixing their paints and preparing their paper or cloth for painting ...

Luis Valdez

La Maestria del Amor: Una Guia Practica para el Arte de las Relaciones15 reviews
Don Miguel Ruiz

Amber-Allen Publishing, 2001

Love thyself unconditionally!
Wish I had read this book when I was 15 years old. Even now it has been a blessing in my life! It is never too late to realize how special you are and to value the differences in each one of us. This book taught me so much about self value, self love, self esteem and consequently empowered me to create my own happiness and enjoy "la pura vida". I shared this blessing with my whole family by ...

El Fascinante Poder De La Intencion Deliberada (Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent): Vivir el arte de permitir1 review
Esther Hicks, Jerry Hicks

Versos Sencillos: Simple Verses (Recovering the Us Hispanic Literary Heritage)3 reviews
Jose Marti, Manuel A. Tellechea

Arte Publico Press, 1997

A New Side of Jose Marti
The thing that struck me about this book is that i always thought of Jose Marti as a sort of revolutionary firebrand. Reading this book, however, I realized what a strong spiritual connection he had with the universe. The poetry is what you would expect from a spiritual teacher like the Dalai Lama. This poetry demonstrates an aspect of Jose Marti's character I never before appreciated.

Commedia Dell'Arte: An Actor's Handbook7 reviews
John Rudlin

Routledge, 1994

the best place to start.....
Obviously commedia dell'arte is a live theatre form, and obviously you know a bit about commedia otherwise you wouldn't be reading this review. As far as any book can help anyone do live theatre, especially a form so comic and forceful, then ths book can. Nowhere it loses sight of the fact that its job is to encourage people to action and performance and then begin to discover for themselves. It ...

Spanish 4, Galería de arte y vida, Student Edition (Glencoe Spanish)1 review
McGraw-Hill

Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, 2006

confusing
I am a fourth year spanish student, and this is the first year we had textbooks. These were the series of books chosen. I don't know about the other ones, but this book is seriously confusing. Much of the grammer covered is not covered extensively enough in explanation, and many of the exercises are too repetitive to do much good in the long run. I don't recommend this book.

The Case Runner9 reviews
Carlos Cisneros

Arte Publico Press, 2008

Alex del Fuerte, an extraordinary character...
Alex del Fuerte trapped my attention from the beginning, only a special personality would care for an estrange at the street talking to himself. Alex's unpredictable reasoning leaded the story to an uncertain state of mind since the moment when he took his first case before even opening his law office. From that moment, every single chapter is an intense ride where it is required to keep seat ...

The Comic Mask in the Commedia dell'Arte: Actor Training, Improvisation, and the Poetics of Survival1 review
Antonio Fava

Northwestern University Press, 2007

imbued with symbolism
Fava talks about an old and now rather minor art form. The use of comic masks in certain traditional Italian dramas. The book explains how the masks form the central aspect of the plays. Imbued with symbolism and spectacle. Naturally, the book includes many lovely colour plates of contemporary masks. These show a hilarious level of caricature and workmanship. Plus, some plates are ...
