The Complete Book of Aunts 2 reviews Rupert Christiansen
Twelve, 2007
Eccentrics Galore While I have to agree with the reviewer above, the rest of the book is absolutely charming in its fond celebration of aunties, both factual and fictitious. For everyone who has an aunt straight out of a storybook, buy two copies. One for yourself and one for her. This is a rare compendium, as there's not too many books on the subject!

Island of the Aunts 64 reviews Eva Ibbotson
Puffin, 2001
Absolutely unique My normally quiet, self-contained ten-year-old niece called me one night to tell me that I absolutely had to read this book to my students because it was the best thing she had ever read in her entire life. Curious (because she is a very particular reader), I got it from the library the next day - and couldn't put it down. I've since read several of Ibbotson's other novels, but none of them ...

Aunt Isabel Tells a Good One (Picture Puffins) 7 reviews Kate Duke
Puffin, 1994
Even adult writers will enjoy this book! Several years ago I got this book from our public library to read to our two small children and two others we were babysitting at the time. I don't know whether the children or I enjoyed it more, but later when I went back to borrow the library's copy again, I was disappointed to find it no longer available. A month or so later, the children and I were invited to visit another home-based daycare ...

Aunt Minnie's Atlas and Imaging-Specific Diagnosis 2 reviews
Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2008
Excellent Book for all radiology residents This book is an excellent collection of cases that can be classified as "Aunt Minnies", i.e. cases that have a specific diagnosis and you probably won't know what they are, unless you've seen them before. Therefore this book is invaluable for all radiology residents and especially for the oral boards. If there is one book you need to reveiw for the boards, this is it. The book has a concise ...

Aunt Dimity's Death (Aunt Dimity Mystery) 55 reviews Nancy Atherton
Penguin (Non-Classics), 1993
Light Mystery The Dimity mystery novels began with this volume. I have thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment and escape Aunt Dimity provides. I have read several of these books since reading the first one. I am ready for the next as soon as I finish one. I just hope Nancy Atherton can keep it up!

Aunt Dimity's Christmas 28 reviews Nancy Atherton
Penguin (Non-Classics), 2000
Awesome! What an engaging character "Kit" was! I was as beguiled as Lori. The story really surprises the reader with its turn of plot. It starts out to give you the impression it'll be a kind of cozy perfect, fairytale story and ends up being something more touching and meaningful. I was compelled to finish this book in one day. I love the interwoven history, handsome men, the crusty but good-in-the-end ...

Amazing Book, Great for Teachers I use this book in both my reading and writing workshops for fifth graders. It's an excellent book that could be useful to 3rd-6th grade students. It's a great example of characterization.

Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil (Penguin Mysteries) 15 reviews Nancy Atherton
Penguin (Non-Classics), 2001
Delicious read! The characters capture you from the first encounter. Atherton has real skill at creating characters we immediately care about and plots that are not only compelling, but emotional, and historical. I LOVE these Aunt Dimity books! And I should add, I read most of them in a day or two.

Aunt Harriet's Underground Railroad in the Sky 7 reviews Faith Ringgold
Dragonfly Books, 1995
A Magical Trip on the Underground Railroad..... "One day, my brother Be Be and I were flying among the stars, way way up, so far up the mountains looked like pieces of rock candy and the oceans like tiny cups of tea. We came across an old ramshackled train in the sky." So begins Cassie Louise Lightfoot's tale of meeting "conductor" Harriet Tubman and riding the underground railroad to Canada. Based on Harriet Tubman's account of a dream she ...

Aunt Dimity Takes a Holiday 15 reviews Nancy Atherton
Viking Adult, 2003
Great Weekend Mystery This book is a good mystery. The plot is always complex, but not confusing, and very well written. These stories are perfectly situated in England. The titles of these Aunt Dimity series are a bit misleading. By the title I thought it would be about a little lady who travels and gets involved in little mysteries, like Agatha Christie's Poirot and also her Miss Marple, etc. The stories are about a ...

Aunt Dimity and the Next of Kin (Aunt Dimity) 15 reviews Nancy Atherton
Penguin (Non-Classics), 2006
Love the book, hate the cover-art on the paperback... The Aunt Dimity series is the first mystery series I've read. I really like the "family-friendly" nature of the book, the setting in England and endearing/interesting cast of characters.
What attracted me to the series initially was the "cozy" cover-art, I hope they re-release this paperback with the original cover-art. It's not the same without Reginald and Hamish!

What Aunts Do Best/What Uncles Do Best 2 reviews Laura Numeroff
Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2004
Perfect for favorite aunts and uncles I bought this book not for my child but for my child to give her favorite aunt and uncle to show how much she loves them. It is cute to see how men and women may do the same things to entertain their nieces/nephews but in different ways. It is also nice to have two books in one, just flip the book over for the other book.

Aunt Millie's Garden: 12 Flowering Blocks from Piece O'Cake Designs 2 reviews
C&T Publishing, 2008
Aunt Millie's Garden Piece O'Cake is brilliant. This is so much better than another book because it focuses on the patterns without all of the instructional rehash. There is plenty of piecing and applique instruction included for the quilter who has had any experience at all. Frankly, a beginner probably shouldn't be trying these patterns as it could be quite overwhelming. Thank you for another wonderful design, ...
