Masque Of The Swan (Denise Little Presents)4 reviews
Rebecca Ashe

Pinnacle, 1996

Fantasy Seeker
Sincerely touched, Not everyday someone can come across a work that inspires them, perhaps others' seem a bit cliche`...or not fully doing the epic justice. But a few years ago I quickly picked up a novel in a dime store, and regretfully didn't get to read the resplendant lines till a few weeks ago, due to motherhood and the joys brought with it. I honestly was swept away, never ...

Arthur Ashe, portrait in motion1 review
Arthur Ashe

Houghton Mifflin, 1975

A must
"Portrait in Motion," essentially a diary kept by Arthur Ashe in 1973 and 1974, captures life on the pro tennis circuit better than any other book I've read. The tour has changed a lot since then, of course, but his description of week-to-week ups and downs (most weeks, of course, end with a loss) holds up well. There are plenty of flashes of Ashe's political consciousness as well, but his frank ...

Norris J. Lacy, Geoffrey Ashe

Garland Publishing, Inc., 1988

Excellent survey of Arthurian literature for scholars
If you want to know about the evolution of the Arthurian legends, from their basis in history to their literary evolution, this is a perfect book for you. The book traces the history of tales through the most ancient works from Wales and Brittany, through the evolution of the stories by various authors -- Chretien de Troyes, Wolfram von Eschenbach, Thomas Malory, and even considers works from ...

When the Red Brick Road Turned Yellow2 reviews
Marcella Norton Wms-Ashe

1st Books Library, 2004

Amazing
This poetry is not fiction and appear to have a lot of time spent with people .It shows the omnious presence of life as it is for many people. The Victim's Cry in the courtroom was awesome. The Plastic Tears made me cry. This book has done just what the author wanted it to do. Her poetry seem like a story written in poectic form. Absolutely loved it.

Atlantis: The Legend of a Lost City1 review
Geoffrey Ashe

Frances Lincoln Childrens Books, 2002

Great Book
This book is wonderful. The story of the island of Atlantis is clearly written and the pictures are beautiful. It explains the origins of Atlantis, how it got formed and how it became prosperous, all the way to how it was swallowed up by the ocean when the people became corrupt. My sons (3 and 5 years old) ask for it again and again.

These are very highly recommended and intellectually stimulating free verse compositions
Arranged in five parts, with each segment unfolding to reveal the constant yet changeable essence of relationships, the poetry of Anthony B. These are very highly recommended and intellectually stimulating free verse compositions that deftly utilize metaphor, simile and ...

Viewfinders: Black Women Photographers3 reviews
Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe

Writers & Readers Publishing, 1993

A gem of a book! A " must read" for all photographers!
My extensive search for a book on Black women photographers led me to this gem of a book. "Viewfinders" presents an historical perspective of the amazing Black women who were pioneers in photography. I learned about Eslanda Robeson, Elizabeth "Tex" Williams, Adine Williams, etc.-- women who inspired me (a Black woman) to become a professional photographer in a field dominated ny men. The ...

Mythology Of The British Isles1 review
Geoffrey Ashe

Methuen Publishing Ltd, 2002

I loved this book!
I first read this book when I was in college. I was browsing the library shelves for Medieval English literature when I came across some Arthurian texts. I had always loved King Arthur tales and Ashe's books piqued my interest even further. Then, by accident I came upon The Mythology of the British Isles--it is such a wonderful book! Full of myths and their basises in history, lots of color ...

Daddy and Me1 review
Je Moutoussamy-Ashe

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1993

A must for an elementary teacher's HIV & AIDS lesson.
"Daddy and Me" presents the realities of living with a parent who has contracted the HIV virus. I've read this book to fourth grade students for the past two years as a part of our Human Sexuality/HIV curriculum that is mandated by our district. Both years the children came away with new insights into the AIDS crisis. The book is an excellent tool to initiate the lesson. Although I ...

Dawn Behind the Dawn: A Search for the Earthly Paradise1 review
Geoffrey Ashe

Henry Holt & Co, 1991

Revolutionary Book and Fun to Read!
This is one of the most interesting books I've ever read on history or on shamanism. Historian Geoffrey Ashe is an entertaining writer who has pulled together a huge amount of research and come to some fascinating conclusions. Ashe traces the nearly universal legends of a Golden Era or paradise at the beginning of human existence to, of all places, Siberia. As the story unfolds he also shows ...

The Contemporary Social & Political: An Introduction1 review
Ashe

Open University Pres, 1998

an excellent and accessible text book.
The book introduces the student to the sometimes difficult ideas of contemporary thinkers such as Foucault, Derrida, Habermas and so forth. Organised thematically and covering topics such as 'power', 'language', 'culture', 'the body' and 'the subject' the book is comprehensive yet always readable and informative. It is certainly essential reading for students looking to orient themselves in ...

The Feminization of the Church?1 review
Kaye Ashe

Sheed & Ward, 1997

This book is a rich source for understanding a complex issue
I am so grateful to Kaye Ashe for writing such a concise, readable text relating to the complex issues that face women in the Catholic Church today. I have been researching this subject for over ten years, and I am always looking for good reference material for adult education classes. This will be an excellent resource because it covers the subject in such a way that it can be adaptable to ...

Merlin1 review
Arthur Ashe

Wessex Books, 2001

Making a lengend real
I picked this up as part of a research project on Arthurian legends. Ashe is one of the foremost authorities on the subject, and his writings are entertaining and very approachable. This book is set against the backdrop of Geoffrey of Monmouth's The History of the Kings of Britain. Ashe traces Merlin's appearance in Geoffrey's work, and then takes the reader through historical records of ...

Celebrity Worshippers: Inside the Minds of Stargazers1 review
Lynn McCutcheon, John Maltby, ...

PublishAmerica, 2004

An Excellent and entertaining analysis of pop culture!
This is not a dry, academic book. It's a "punchy" academic book that forthrightly addresses society's preoccupation with celebrities and celebrity culture by exploring the sociological and psychological motivations for this preoccupation. The book covers historic material, as well as new research on the psychology of fans. The book also contains some eye-opening factoids that illustrate just how ...

King Arthur, the Dream of a Golden Age (Art and Imagination)1 review
Geoffrey Ashe

Thames & Hudson, 1990

The Greatest King of All
This book is an exciting introduction to the Arthurian legends. In the opening essay, Geoffrey Ashe traces the historical development of the King Arthur story from its ancient Celtic origins to recent archeological evidence. Ashe underscores Arthur's potency as an archetype: "Arthur symbolizes a deeply rooted factor of human nature" (p. 32). In the second part of the book, the artistic ...

The Golden Dawn Qabalah Codex1 review
Steven Ashe

Golden Dawn Lodge of the Fraternity of the Sanctum, 2008

Finally ... the Hardback
Steven Ashe has written the ultimate handbook for Qabalists who wish to pursue the evolved Golden Dawn tradition. Unlike his revolutionary 'Qabalah of 50 Gates'(which de-constructs the traditional view of the 50 Gates as being exclusively linked to the medieval philosophy known as the 'Great Chain of Being' - providing a structure of the Tree more harmonious with the vision of Dion Fortune) this ...
