Cooking Under Cover: One Pot Wonders -- A Treasury of Soups, Stews, Braises, and Casseroles3 reviews
Linda Griffith, Fred Griffith

Houghton Mifflin, 1998

Cooking Under Cover
They sure mean it when they call them one pot wonders. Who would have thought that soups and stews could be so sophisticated. I am someone who often makes various chili dishes, crockpot meals and casseroles because I like to save time, but I needed a new bag of tricks. I like how it is organized by main ingredient which helps when I have meat or vegetables that I don't know what to do with. ...

Carnap's Construction of the World: The Aufbau and the Emergence of Logical Empiricism2 reviews
Alan W. Richardson

Cambridge University Press, 2008

an excellent resource on analytic philosophy
Alan Richardson does an excellent job of explaining and defending Carnap's project. Richardson combines his extensive knowledge of the history of philosophy (especially Kant and the analytics) and his ability to make clear otherwise difficult passages from Carnap. The book is informative, well-written, and very rewarding if a good effort is put forth into reading it.

A. J. Battifarano, Alan Richardson

Time-Life Books, 1998

The best book on really authentic Italian cooking
In this world inundated with tomes devoted to Italian cooking, this wonderful book stands out. The author spent years researching, collecting and testing authentic, seasonal farmhouse recipes (from all over the country) made with only the freshest ingredients. (The recipes are full-proof!!) This is one of the few books that allows everyone to make some of the most appetizing Italian ...

Creeds in the making: A short introduction to the history of Christian doctrine1 review
Alan Richardson

Fortress Press, 1981

Outstanding Short Expose on Christian Creeds/Doctrine
Richardson ably shows how creeds, confessions of belief by the early Christian church, were to refute error and affirm true teaching. Thus, as false teaching escalated, so did the complexity and breath/depth of creeds. Wonderful compact intro to the councils and doctrinal disputes of first centuries of the faith. Further interested souls might want to consult, one or more of the following" JND ...

Wuthering Heights (New Riverside Editions)3 reviews
Emily Bronte, Alan Richardson

Heinle, 2001

The Editor Speaks
As the editor of this volume, I wanted to point out its differences from many other editions of Wuthering Heights. This one contains the short story, "The Bridegroom of Barna," believed to be the most influential source for the novel. It also collects essays about Emily Bronte that are not published elsewhere with the novel. I may be biased, but I think this is a great edition of the novel and ...

Logical Empiricism in North America (Minnesota Studies in the Philosophy of Science)2 reviews

University of Minnesota Press, 2003

Carnap, Neurath, Frank, and Pryor
Finally, a book that fully states the enormous debt to logical empiricism in the comedy of Richard Pryor. Hardcastle's own essay on logical empiricism, the Catskills Yiddish comedy community in the 1940s and 1950s, and the young Pryor is expecially illuminating.

Romantic Natural Histories (New Riverside Editions)2 reviews
William Wordsworth, Charles Darwin, ...

Heinle, 2003

A Note from the Editor
This anthology will be especially useful for courses in Romanticism, ecocriticism, or literature and the environment. The volume reveals how much poets from Blake to Tennyson knew about the natural science of their times and how much scientists like Humphry Davy and Charles Darwin knew, and cared about, imaginative literature. The collection reminds us of a time when poetry and science were more ...

Three Oriental Tales: The History of Nourjahad, Vathek, and The Giaour (New Riverside Editions)1 review
Frances Sheridan, William Beckford, ...

Heinle, 2002

From the Editor
Here are some features of this collection that readers might want to know about. It includes the original notes to *Vathek* (the 1816 version) and *The Giaour* and presents them as they were intended to be presented: in separate sections following each work. Editorial glosses and footnotes, on the other hand, are at the bottom of each page--my students, who don't like hunting for endnotes, tell ...

How to Build a Time Machine (How to)1 review
Hazel Richardson

Franklin Watts, 2001

Such a cool book!
This is a brilliant book - funny, clear, interesting. It's packed with the history of time and physics, and explains quantum physics in a way anybody can understand. The inner workings of a black hole, what a wormhole is, and time travel paradoxes are all explained. The illustrations are great (and often very funny).I'd definitely recommend it for adults as well as children.

Sense and Sensibility (New Riverside Editions)1 review
Jane Austen, Alan Richardson

Heinle, 2001

From the Editor
"Sense and Sensibility," Jane Austen's first published novel (1811), tells the intertwined stories of two contrasting sisters, the lively, passionate, impulsive Marianne and the reserved, self-disciplined, dutiful Elinor. Both experience love, heartache, and eventual happiness in marriage, and both have their beliefs and value systems tested. A host of memorable, comic minor characters combine ...

Alan Richardson

Great stuff
I started reading Dion Fortune 35+ yrs ago. This book tells lots about the behind the scenes about Fortune & her Magickal group. Richardson was not a member of her order who had to dig for his facts ...and dig he did. The bock contains the Magickal records of 2 major members Christine Hartley & Charles Seymour. It talks about Fortune's true inner plane contacts as well as the entities invoked and ...
