Beginning Dynamic Websites: with ASP.NET Web Matrix (Programmer to Programmer)7 reviews
Dave Sussman, James Greenwood, ...

Wrox, 2003

Absolutely great book for beginners (static to dynamic web)
I am a college student having some programming knowledge but totally new in dynamic/ data-driven web creation. I found this book really helpful to get started from static to exciting data-driven stuff with ASP and MSDE. Although WebMatrix has a limitation(which was developed by a team of people from Microsoft at their spare time), it's a real great tool for beginner to get to know how to install ...

Beginners Guide to Access 951 review
Alex Homer

Wrox Press, 1995

Excellent Access Tutorial
I have looked at many Access tutorials, yet this book is truly exemplary. What makes this book unique is that not only is everything explained step by step, yet every step has an actual screen photo of the step. You never are lost in any of the proceedures because you can always look at the picture. In some books it was hard to find where the silly buttons where, but with this book there is ...

Instant HTML Programmer's Reference Html34 reviews
Alex Homer, Chris Ullman, ...

Peer Information Inc., 1997

Fantastic capsule HTML book!
Of course, this is dated already, but if you are doing plain vanilla HTML, this is the most perfect HTML guide I've come across, and I have many. Even 3 years after it was published, when I need to look something up, this is the book that comes off the shelf first, and usually the only book that needs t come off the shelf. Which is amazing, considering how small the thing is, too. It's not the ...

Professional Active Server Pages 2.0 (Professional)122 reviews
Brian Francis, Richard Harrison, ...

Wrox Press, 1998

Indespensible ASP Reference
This book has carried me now for two years. I don't need some end all be all bible - MSDN keeps updates on specific issues I have. This is a great ASP reference for the "working" programmer who just needs to see an example of "how it's done". Chalked full of sample code that WORKS!!!

A First Look at ASP.NET v 2.012 reviews
Alex Homer, Dave Sussman, ...

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2003

Delightful!
I ordered this book a few weeks after ordering my tech preview copy of Visual Studio.NET "Whidbey" and got them both in the mail on the same day. I've read the book and am just starting to work with the amazing new tools, technologies and techniques it describes, and I can't remember the last time I was this excited about an upcoming developer tools release. ASP.NET 2.0 resolves 99% of the issues ...

Pro ASP.NET Web Forms Techniques, Second Edition2 reviews
Alex Homer, Apress

Apress, 2003

High Quality and Clearly Explained
Mr. Homer has produced that rarity in a serious programming book, quality with clarity. The examples individually and as a whole are all very well done, and any ASP.NET programmer from intermediate level up will find something useful in here. One other note, I had a specific question and e-mailed Mr. Homer, and his response was quick, cordial, and solved my problem on the first try.....many ...

Professional Active Server Pages (Instant)36 reviews
Alex Homer, Andrew Enfield, ...

Wrox Press, 1997

Very Useful so far in learning to tie HTML to ASP w/vbscript
The short time I have been using this book I find that I can find very useful information for what I need to do with ASP. Very good examples. Very well layed out book. The number of yellow stickies shows me that I have found useful and specific examples relevant to my needs. The book uses VBScript which is just what I want. Even walks you through creating a COM component.

ASP 3.0 Programmer's Reference18 reviews
Richard Anderson, Dan Denault, ...

Wrox Press, 1999

Much More Than Just an ASP Reference
Wrox is selling itself short on this one. Not only is it a great reference for ASP (lots of good examples and explanations), there are also several equally good chapters on ADO, CDO, XML, XLST, ADSI, MSMQ and Transactions. I've used it as a reference for these other topics as much or more than I've used it as an ASP reference.

ASP.NET 1.0 Namespace Reference with C#1 review
Amit Kalani, Dave Gerding, ...

Wrox Press, 2002

Great reference with examples
Finally, a book I have been looking for; a readable reference with solid examples. Does a great job on the namespaces it covers. Looking forward to similiar books to cover additional namespaces. This is not a tutorial. Gets straight to the point and provides you with the information you need to use a class and its associated methods and properties. Provides just enough background to provide ...

Professional Active Server Pages 3.0 (Programmer to Programmer)78 reviews
Alex Homer, David Sussman, ...

Peer Information, 1999

The BEST book for classical ASP
Obsolete??? Hardly. As I write this review, new Web page technologies are being matured: jsp, php, chm (yech). New models are being matured: Servlets, STRUTS, .NET. Classical ASP 3.0 is still quick, fast and necessary for small to medium businesses, even enterprise-level webpages. There's no better book to learn all the standards, applications, basics, and advanced capabilities of ASP than THIS ...

Instant Netscape Dynamic Html: Nc4 Edition (Instant)2 reviews
Alex Homer, Chris Ullman

Peer Information Inc., 1997

Good book on DHTML!
This book is very good for DHTML! Lots of screenshots and examples of how things work. Takes you through Layers, CSS's, the object model of the browser, moving elements of a page, changing all kinds of elements through use of DHTML, remember that this is a reference book, not meant for HTML beginners, and a knowledge of programming might help, but isn't necessary, because of the indepth ...

XML in IE5 Programmer's Reference12 reviews
Alex Homer

Peer Information Inc., 1999

Complete
I have to say that this book IS complete about the XML for IE5 subject. Of course, this a Programmer's Reference so it's not a book to learn and it's obviously IE5 specific. If you can live with those constraint and you are looking to do get the best out of IE, take this book and you will have all required information. Bottom line, very practical and compact reference; but it will probably ...

ASP.NET 2.0 Illustrated (Microsoft .NET Development Series)3 reviews
Alex Homer, Dave Sussman

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2006

an authoritative, informative, and concise introduction to ASP.NET
Excerpt from C# Online.NET Review (wiki.CSharp-Online.NET): "As the authors lead the reader through binding, caching, displaying, editing, exposing, filtering, paging, securing, and sorting data--one sees just how successful Microsoft has been in streamlining access to ASP.NET technology."

Instant IE4 Dynamic HTML Programmer's Reference4 reviews
Alex Homer, Chris Ullman

Peer Information Inc., 1997

Well done guide in a great format.
This book is certainly well done, especially for it's smaller format. A few things should be noted, the most important of which is that you should have prior knowledge of both HTML 3.x and some knowledge of scripting. With out these mental tools, I could easily see how someone could get confused by this book. For anyone intermediate or above though, this book will quickly get you up to speed ...

ADO 2.0 Programmer's Reference40 reviews
David Sussman, Alex Homer

Wrox Press, 1998

The book Microsoft should have shipped with ADO
I cannot recommend this book enough. It is actually a joy to read - a reference book - imagine that! It contains everything I needed/wanted to know plus a whole lot more. It is the book that Microsoft should have shipped as their own.

ASP.NET Distributed Data Applications6 reviews
Alex Homer, Dave Sussman

Wrox Press, 2002

A solid ýhow toý book with vital perspective
If you're seeking to build a data-driven ASP.NET application that provides any kind of a user experience beyond the classic approach of posting the page back to the server every time you select or edit data, this book is a MUST READ. It shows how to maximize the user experience and client responsiveness under whatever set of design constraints your client-side scenario imposes-from basic ...

Professional ASP.NET Web Forms Techniques2 reviews
Alex Homer

Wrox Press, 2002

Mission accomplished !
I love this book. This is a step-by-step account of how to build a real ASP.NET web page. No 'snippets' here. The author takes you through a real-world type project from design to code, with complete explanations of the techniques used. My favorite aspect is that we are taught how to solve problems and create things - not just pieces of a language. This is not just about ASP.NET either. The ...

ADO.NET and System.Xml v. 2.0--The Beta Version (2nd Edition) (Microsoft .NET Development Series)3 reviews
Alex Homer, Dave Sussman, ...

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2005

For Experts or people who want to become an Expert
This book is a worthy companion to Bob Beauchemin et al's First Look. And that is saying a lot. David Sussman and Alex Homer have always written like they are trying to communicate rather than fill up another book. Mark Fussell joins the gang in an admirable way. This book is not a fluffy introduction; it is a pretty dense explanation and reference of this new technology. There are plenty of ...

First Look at ADO.NET and System Xml v 2.03 reviews
Alex Homer, Dave Sussman, ...

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2003

Addison-Wesley does it again
With all of my rave reviews of this series, I probably sound like I work in their PR department, but seriously, I don't. Every single book in this series that I've read is just plain great. This book, as well as their ASP.NET 2.0 title are just more examples of the same killer material they are publishing. The book splits itself about 60/40 ADO.NET 2.0 Per se and the XML. However, if you're ...

IE5 Dynamic HTML Programmer's Reference5 reviews
Brian Francis, Alex Homer, ...

Peer Information Inc., 1999

Best book on this topic I've read
This book is very readable, gets right to the point, and will not put you to sleep. Several others (such as Inside DHTML) are so anhydrous they'll suck up all the rain in Seattle. This book however is a great intro to DHTML. You don't have to be an expert in HTML to get a lot out of this book. Has good appendices on HTML, DHTML, JScript, and VBScript.
