Great OT basic
Without blabbering on about the evangelical theological leaning of each chapter I thought I'd write an actual review of this book rather than attempt to debate the authors' theology. First off, the book is a great survey. It is a bit short at times and a bit simplistic around some of the prophets (the sections on Jonah and Haggai for example are far too basic) but it is always fair and contains ...

Dense, but good
I bought this book for my Zoology 1 class, and found the book to be arranged in a logical manner with review material at the end of each chapter. Some of the material and explainations were dense and wordy, but overall I was highly please with the book.

Indispensible edition!! A fine collection.
I've found this particular edition of Poe's (albiet incomplete) collected works to be the best and most accurate blend possible of his short fiction, poetry, and most important prose. The annotations and background information are also extremely helpful unlike some works that do not translate the Latin, for example. MOST IMPORTANTLY I've found this work to contain the most perfect editions of his ...

A GREAT GUIDE TO THE ART OF INFLUENCING OTHERS.
This book is important because it's message-to succeed you must learn to influence others-is right on target. The authors assert that nobody "ever had enough authority (to get their work done)." But it is possible to have enough influence to make things happen, and this book's purpose is to tell you how! It shows that the key to influence is reciprocity, which is defined in many and subtle ways. ...

A top choice among students and instructors alike, Animal Diversity continues to earn the appreciation of both science majors and non-majors alike. The book uses the theme of evolution to develop a broad-scale view of animal diversity—students focus not only the organisms themselves, but also the processes that produce evolutionary diversity. The book is unique in its comprehensive survey of zoological diversity and its emphasis on ...

Stretch beyond the mechanics of the Flash tools
There are many books about cartoon animation in Flash. What sets this book apart from the rest is the approach the authors have taken to make this book much more than just another step-by-step book about drawing and animating characters. Foundation Flash Cartoon Animation is for the animator who needs to stretch beyond the mechanics of the Flash tools and perfect the decision-making process ...

Good book for pre-meds
I'm teaching a class on understanding the clinical literature to Master's level pre-medical students. This book does a good job of describing the basics of the different kinds of clinical studies and the statistics appropriate for each one. Anyone who's really into research or statistics will find this book too basic, but it's a good starting point for pre-meds or docs with no research ...

the gardener as artist
Artists in Their Gardens is a book for the gardener who loves the garden as a means of self-expression. In the ten gardens described, each of us will find things we love, and perhaps things which disturb us. I love the austerity of potter Ann HIrondelle's garden, the zaniness of Lewis and Little's work, the majesty of Lee Kelly's monuments. I could never live with the kitsch of Leter and ...

The Re-imaging of Cap for a New Generation
This book made me fall in love with comics all over again after about a 15 year absence (the release of the horrible G.I. Joe #50). If Marvel put out a hardcover book like this 'bout Cap every year I would buy it the day it was released. I love its "catalogue" feel. Like a Cap sampler. There's probably 2 chapters I could live without. The rest are pure joy. I also highly recommend Captain ...

All the stories are above average
In Lake Woebegone, all the children are above average. In this collection of creepy, quirky, and scary tales of Minnesota not-so-nice, all the stories are above average. Way above average. No one should head to the north woods without having this book with them, just in case it rains. But make sure the cabin door is bolted, or at least that the tent fly is zipped up tight. PHP5 a really really good review
When I first thought of the idea of reading a book that I would be able to choose I knew I wanted to learn something useful. I have wanted to get at least one language under my belt by the time I am 16. There are many languages out there such as Perl, PHP, Cold Fusion, ASP, Python, C++, C, and of course Assembly. Now I do not think anyone could learn Assembly right off the bat without learning ...

With Gratitude
I read this book in my final year of grad school in geology. It explained most reasons for my intellectual and ethical frustration with my entire college experience, in which I had found the academic system to be shockingly and willfully ignorant, totalitarian-restrictive, and corrupt. My college experience was 20% Milovan Djilas, 80% Allan Bloom, capped by a thesis defense out of Martin ...

Like experiencing imaginary superiority
There are experts at experiencing imaginary superiority, and Allan Bloom illustrates how many ways it is possible for an American professor of the University of Chicago to acknowledge such situations. For philosophical completeness, the book GIANTS AND DWARFS: ESSAYS 1960-1990 includes a translation of Plato's dialogue "Hipparchus or the Profiteer" translated by Steven Forde, in which the ...
