Building Mental Muscle: Conditioning Exercises by Gamon et.
This is one of the few books on the market which aims to sharpen intellectual skills. The author gives the reader an important portal into how people learn and retain information. For instance, the authors teach us how to learn by excluding all other information from consideration while in deep concentration. Protein synthesis occurs with long term learning wherein events may be emotionally ...

A refreshingly different kind of brain teaser book
Being a life-long lover of puzzles and mind games, I've collected lots of brain teaser books over the years. The title of this book really caught my eye. After all, aren't all brain teaser books "left-brained" by definition? Not necessarily so with this book. The format is quite simple: each page shows a house-hold invention from the 18th or 19th century, along with the real life dimensions of ...

Good companion to "The Sharper Mind"
The "game" format makes this book very user-friendly and not threatening. The Sharper Mind had a similar approach was was more practical in its approach to everyday situations: remembering names, dates, etc.

A lovely gathering of history!
I bought "Historic Samplers" when it was first offered. So far, I have stitched three of the samplers. The photos are truly great, and the directions are clear enough for most beginning stitchers. The historical notes concerning each design are worth the price of the book, especially to one who is interested in antique samplers.

This is a terrific reference book!
I have used this book throughout the year as my gingerbread reference book. The book is more than a how-to-make a gingerbread house. This book has taught me that gingerbread is very appropriate for any holiday celebration. It has step-by-step instructions for using gingerbread for St. Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. It really isn't the best book to have if you are a ...

A little misleading
With such a catchy title, one should expect a book filled with practical, detailed, perhaps even step-by-step, instructions (or even suggestions) on how one could achieve the goal of "Learning Faster and Remembering More". Instead, the book is more a digest or summary of the "latest" findings in cognitive/brain-physiology research. Each chapter (usually 5-10 pages) tries to address a specific ...

great book, but....
I agree, this is a very good gingerbread book. But buyers beware - it is just a revised edition of "The Gingerbread Book" by Alan D. Bragdon. Title and Cover are different, but contents are almost identical. Again, it is a good book, if you don't have the previous book.

Entertaining
Although most of the tests in this book are not complete versions, the majority have a few dozen multiple- choice questions. The answers follow the tests, and many have explanations of several sentences or more. Especially entertaining is the test for a New York City cab driver. Here is a sample question: "A baker hails your taxi on the East side, puts a tray of donuts in your taxi, and asks ...
How Sharp Is Your Pencil?

This pencil's pretty sharp!
The book is a terrific compendium of various and sundry exams. There appears to be no reason why these were included, other than being eclectic. I enjoyed trying my hand at some of the more obscure titles. One thing I do know, I won't be hired as a wine steward any time soon. For less than a $20 bill, it succeeded in straining my memory and my wit. It was a kick!
