More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark45 reviews
Alvin Schwartz

HarperTrophy, 1986

Murphy's review
In the book there are many different stories and many different people. The stories are very detailed and very scary and that is why I liked the book so much. In one story called "Something Was Wrong," a man known as John Sullivan found himself walking along a street in downtown. He could not explain how he got there. He saw a woman walking down the street so he asked her what time it was. ...

DC Comics, 2006

Wayne Boring and much more!
Full color Superman stories from Action Comics 248-254 and Superman 121-131, originally printed in 1959 more commonly called the Silver Age of Comics. Wayne Boring, my favorite Superman artist, which is not to diminish any other artist, is represented in eight of the stories. In the old days, before the corporate masters elected to shoot the industry in the foot, most stories were complete in ...

Showcase Presents: Superman, Vol. 110 reviews
Otto Binder, Bill Finger, ...

DC Comics, 2005

Fun Fun Fun Fun!!!
I own several of the other Showcase Presents featuring more esoteric characters (Phantom Stranger, Jonah Hex, Enemy Ace, Metamorpho) so this is the first "mainstream" DC book I've bought, and I love, love, love it. So much of the Silver Age can be tedious, but each story was so much fun that I could barely set this book down. See the first appearance of Bizarro and Supergirl! Marvel at ...

In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories38 reviews

amazing
This book, and the other books by Alvin Schwartz, are some of the most if not THE most memorable books of my entire life. Theres something special about a book if you read it over and over and remember the stories well into your adult life. The way the stories are told is magical, I mean here's this intensly horrifying situation, but the way its worded so simply and easily has a sort of strange ...

Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones (Scary Stories)32 reviews
Alvin Schwartz

HarperTrophy, 1991

Yet another excellent story in this series!
This is a reallllllllllllllly good book. Especially when Addie Fitch gets voodooed (ha, ha!). Well, but is the story "The Wolf Girl" true or not? It's hard to find out, but this is a really good ending of this series (well, except the only lunatic story is "No, Thanks").

Memories of being scared to go to sleep
I loved these books when I was little- this is what got me started off on my love for scary books/movies/tv shows. I still remember some of the stories from the books, especially one where the dark is creeping over the ceiling and walls, and they always seem to come to mind when I'm in the dark trying to sleep. The pictures still scare me and I'm 26 now. I'd recommend these books for anyone ...

Alvin Schwartz

HarperTrophy, 1986

Permanently scared.
These stories are FANTASTIC. They were so checked out in elementary school it was unbelievable. I was usually in posession of one from the school library ... haha. Great for later elementary school kids. But they will still haunt you when your older. I reccomend this book. But be warned: The pictures are very scary and will most likely haunt you for the rest of your life. :).

iT WILL AMUSE 99%
What a cleverly written children's picture book. Parents andteachers will enjoy reading this to their children as it will amuseand get children interested in reading. Children will want it read to them over and over again, until of course they gather interest in reading and read it themselves. My little brother didn't want to or wasn't interested in reading, until he picked up a copy of THERES ...

Alvin Schwartz, Victoria Chess

Great for the child who likes a little scare
When my son read this book it was the first time ever that he read past his required 20 minutes and actually finished the book! He loved the scary tone, but not too scary for a child.

An Unlikely Prophet: A Metaphysical Memoir by the Legendary Writer of Superman and Batman1 review
Alvin Schwartz

Destiny Books, 2006

One of my favorite books
I read about 75-100 books a year, and first read this one about ten years ago. If making a list of my top five favorite books this one would be on it. Schwartz talks about Tibetan mysticism, the nature of reality (and many related subjects), and comic books in a fun and interesting narrative. Great book!

A Gathering of Selves: The Spiritual Journey of the Legendary Writer of Superman and Batman1 review
Alvin Schwartz

Destiny Books, 2006

Great yarn
As a writer I appreciate the concept of a character taking on a life of its own--but what if they really did? Imagination and memory do often intersect with fun, creative results--in life as well as literature. Writing's a bit heavy on the adjectives (I think anyone would notice, not just writers), otherwise a lot of fun and a lot of depth (maybe). Great story but the framing of it as ...

Tomfoolery: Trickery and Foolery With Words1 review
Alvin Schwartz

Harpercollins Childrens Books, 1994

Thomas foolery
Since I'm named Thomas/Tom, my mother gave me a copy of this book for Christmas around the bicentennial (1976). It is full of fun jokes, funny stories that you can read and learn. Most of them are unknown by gen-xers on forward (like me). There are a lot of old folk jokes from the 1800-1930s. Some will astound you. Or at least your kids... who probably have never heard jokes like these. ...
