Life in a bucket of soil1 review
Alvin Silverstein

Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Co, 1972

Dirt
Have you ever been interested in the sex life of worms? What about parasites and how they eat? This book has simple but informative drawings and somewhat easy text that go into just enough detail to keep you interested. It offers suggestions on how to do soil experiments and breaks the subject matter into 10 chapters, one for each group of critters. Very fascinating in a creepy, crawley way.

Stomachaches (My Health (Sagebrush))1 review
Alvin Silverstein

Topeka Bindery, 2003

Excellent resource
The language is simple enough for a beginning reader to understand, but it is not presented in a cutesy or condescending way. Independent readers will appreciate the pictures and clear writing style. In addition to presenting the causes of stomachaches, this book also introduces ways to prevent/cure them. Highly recommended.

cute and informative!
This is a wonderful book and would be a great help to anyone who wants to know more about mice. The book is full of fantastic black and white photos. My favorite are the pics that show how fast baby mice grow- they are shown at 1 day, 7 days, 13 days, and 26 days old. Manatee (Endangered in America)1 review
Alvin And Virginia Silverstein

Millbrook Press, 1996

This book is a good source for younger readers
This book is a good source for young readers to learn about the wondrous creatures that are manatees. The book is extrememly informative, and the illustrations far surpass any other I have ever seen. As an enviromentalist, I strongly reccommend encouraging any and all children you know to read this and other books about manatees, their endangerment, and protection efforts.

Black-Footed Ferret, The (Endangered in America)1 review
Alvin/Virginia Silverstein

Millbrook Press, 1995

Factual; complete; good introduction to an endangered specie
I serve as the Chief of Resource Education at Badlands National Park, one of the few sites in North America that has had black-footed ferrets reintroduced. This book has good information and provides children between the ages of 8 and 12 with a good introduction to this extremely rare mammal species. Enslow Publishers, 1997

Sickle Cell Anemia (Diseases and People)
I thought this book was quite interesting. It explained Sickle Cell Anemia in an easy to understand manner. Some parts of the book were boring and seemed a little long, but I liked it when the book used stories of real people who live with the disease. All in all, I thought this book was very helpful and informative and I would recomend it to middleschool or highschool students who are doing ...

Plate Tectonics
This book discusses the theory of plate tectonics and how it connects to volcanic and earthquake activity. Relevant and interesting examples are provided in boxed areas, but a few boxed areas that appear in the middle of pages are distracting. At times I was wishing for diagrams of ...

Dyslexia (My Health (Sagebrush))1 review
Alvin Silverstein

Topeka Bindery, 2002

Like a really really BAD book report
What more can I say? It's boring for anyone to read, had no valuable information, and was not really something that I can share with my dyslexic child to learn about his disability. Full of facts, yet nothing positive for a child with dyslexia to focus on.
