The Dark Card 3 reviews Amy Ehrlich
Puffin, 1993
An exciting "sitting on the edge of your seat" book This book along with many that I have read was probalbly the best. The enchanting story of a seventeen year old girl who becomes obsessed with gambling and tries to cope with the fact that her mother no longer exists, tells and shows more more than one could imagion about any seventeen year olds semi-charmed life. It is exciting to read and is a real page turner. I never put the book down.

Wounded Knee ;: An Indian history of the American West (Laurel-leaf library) 2 reviews Amy Ehrlich
Dell Pub. Co, 1975
Definitely an eye opener! I'm glad that I read this book. I have never read about history from this point of view. It was moving! This version was written for young adults, and I feel that students should be required to read this at least in high school. Many people will be moved to tears and heartbroken as I was.

Rapunzel 2 reviews Jacob Grimm, Brothers Grimm
Dial, 1989
Beautiful, haunting, enchanting Trina Schart Hyman is one of the finest contemporary illustrators of children's books today. Anyone not aware of her exceptional talent is advised to take a look at this retelling of the Grimm's classic, "Rapunzel." The story is in a clear, straightforward, traditional retelling by Barbara Rogasky, but Hyman's illustrations lift this version out of the average and into the sublime. The ...

Thumbelina 2 reviews
Dutton Juvenile, 2005
An imaginative story for young minds My little girl became intrigued recently with the story of Thumbelina after her teacher told her about a fairy the size of a thumb. I took her to the library this afternoon in search of a Thumbelina storybook so she could hear the story and see the pictures for herself.
The librarian suggested this version and I agreed this is a very nice edition. Several pages in the book are two page ...

The Snow Queen 2 reviews Amy Ehrlich
Dutton Juvenile, 2006
Our Favorite Fairy Tale, Beautiful Version I have two small children, and this has fast become our favorite read-aloud fairy tale. This version is very lyrical and well-told. The illustrations are very detailed and beautiful. The snowy scenes are anything but stark due to good use of color, and we actually get chilled and need to snuggle under the covers when looking at them because they are so full of life. This is a beautiful and ...

The Story of Hanukkah 1 review Amy Ehrlich
Dial, 1989
A helpful resource for our mostly Gentile elementary school I've read this picture book many times over the years to predominantly Gentile elementary students in our school library to help explain the historical events behind the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah. The quasi-biblical language used in the text makes this book more effective for older students, from about 4th to 6th grades. Students familiar with the Bible and the Temple in Jerusalem seem to ...

The Random House Book of Fairy Tales 9 reviews
Random House, New York, 1985
Love, Love, Love this book! Every child should have this book. All three of my children love this book. They take turns picking the story we read and then we discuss it ( how it differs from the "movie" version, etc). Absolutely wonderful. Our favorite book for our children.

The Snow Queen 9 reviews Hans Christian Andersen
Dial Books / a pied piper book, 1989
ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST MEMORABLE FAIRY TALES "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen is one of the world's most memorable fairy tales. Gerda's journey to find her lost friend and her visit to the ice palace of the Snow Queen capture a child's imagiantion as few tales do. Creatively dramatic illustrations make this a valuable addition to the annals of children's literature.

Everyday Train 1 review Amy Ehrlich
Dial, 1977
A story about a girl who loves watching the train pass. A short and warm story about a young girl, Jane, whose greatest thrill of each day is to race out to see the train as it passes near her home. She loves seeing all of the different cars, waving to the engineer, and playing a guessing game about the color of the caboose. She dreams about the train, where it goes, and who else stands around to watch it pass by.

Zeek Silver Moon 1 review Amy Ehrlich
First Pied Piper, 1972
A story about the kind of life every child should live. This is a truly beautiful book. The paintings are colorful and portray a sense of security that every child craves. The parents are really involved with their son and teach him how to solve problems by doing things differently. When the upstairs neighbor complained that the father's piano playing was too loud, Zeek's father nailed the carpet to the ceiling to cut down on the noise. Zeek ...

joyride will take you on the ride of your life Joyride
By Amy Ehrlich
Fourteen year old Nina lives with her mom Joyce in Montpelier, Vermont. Nina and Joyce move a lot and Nina hasn't been in one place for more than a year yet. She and Joyce have many memories from the past; however, they have many memories to come in the future.
Joyride is a fiction book. It captured my mind; everything was so descriptive and detailed. I ...

The Walker Book of Fairy Tales 1 review
Walker Books Ltd, 1986
Beautiful Illustrations Amy Ehrlich's selection of fairy tales is excellent. Although all are familiar, these are unusually well written and nice to read, both to oneself and aloud.
I was, however, attracted to the book because of the beautiful pencil illustrations done by Diane Goode. In fact, that's why I purchased the book. Both her pencil and colored pencil illustrations are detailed and well rendered with ...

Great Book "Where It Stops, Nobody Knows" opens with 13-year-old Nina Lewis and her mother traveling cross-country to Montpelier, Vermont (one of many cities that she and her mother have lived in over the years). As Nina explains, each move is harder than the one before, because she has to uproot herself from her friends, boyfriends, and school. And like before, just as Nina's getting used to her ...

Rachel: The Story of Rachel Carson 2 reviews Amy Ehrlich
Silver Whistle, 2003
An inspirational story of a courageous environmentalist Rachel Carson is most often remembered simply as the author of a groundbreaking book that initiated the modern environmental movement. Surprisingly, it is a picture book--traditionally thought of as trivial children's entertainment--that offers the most engrossing and insightful view into the life of, not just an author, but an extraordinary person. We follow Rachel from her discovery of her ...

When I Was Your Age, Volume One: Original Stories About Growing Up (When I Was Your Age) 1 review
Candlewick, 1996
A WONDERFUL BOOK , ESPECIALLY FOR PRE-TEENS ! The original tales presented in this book are actual memories of childhood penned by notable children's book authors. Although most of the stories have 8-10 year-olds as their protagnonists, they deal with emotions and predicaments more easily understood, I think, by slightly older children. Pre-teenage can be such an awkward time; these tales can be healing/instructive to those in this time ...
