Firehouse Dog1 review
Amy Hutchings, Richard Hutchings

Bt Bound, 1999

An upbeat, educational book
This is an excellent book with elements that will grab a child's interest--a loving dog and a fireman's life. The story is told using photos of actual activities at a fire station and the Dalmatian they keep as a pet. The photos give a vivid account of a fireman's lifestyle. It first explains the equipment they use then it shows some of their activities when not at a fire. I particularly liked ...

Harry James Connolly, Steve Carper, F. Brett Cox, Devon Monk, Amy Sterling Casil, Leslie What, Jeff Verona, Richard Bowes, Edmond Hamilton, Julia Blackshear, Richard Horton, Wayne MacLaurin, Jayme Lynn Bla Black Gate Adventures in Fantasy Literature

New Epoch Press, 2001

Not Free SF Reader
Again, the second issue of Black Gate has a whole pile of stuff. This includes perhaps the best magazine article I can remember seeing, where Rich Horton takes a look at interesting or important anthologies in the fantasy genre, and fantasy short fiction in general in a historical overview. This is peppered throughout with pictures of book covers, and magazines, and is overall really ...

How Hungry Are You?1 review
Donna Jo Napoli, Richard Tchen

Atheneum, 2001

Wonderful Book
"How Hungry Are You?" is a wonderful children's book. As a mother, I don't mind reading the book over and over again to my three young children. We enjoy the illustrator's colorful pages and find her method of character identification easy to read. The authors found a fun way to teach children about friendship and math. I strongly recommend this book!

great book for classroom
This book is a great book to use with a unit on fall. You can teach the 1st part of the book in the 1st two weeks of a 4 week unit and then teach the 2nd part of the book for the last two weeks of the unit. I have used this book to teach about apples and pumpkins to a two year old class and I will using it again to teach a 4 year old class. Be creative. The Kingfish Bible2 reviews
Joe Capt. Richard

Saltwater Specialties, 1997

The Kingfish Bible delivers!
At just over 100 information-packed pages, Capt. Joe Richard's "The Kingfish Bible" is a fisherman's one-stop resource for tips on how to catch that brawny king of the mackerel family. The book's 14 chapters outline everything from the author's conversion from a snapper hound who disregarded kings as a mere "trash fish" to one who would eventually cherish the fish as a resource and preach the ...

Winesburg, Ohio78 reviews
Sherwood Anderson

Caedmon, 2002

An honest depiction of the emptiness of humanity
Often credited as an inspiration by the renowned literati of the 20th century, Sherwood Anderson exhibited his subtle fineness and simple genius when he penned `Winesburg, Ohio' in 1919. Told as a collection of short stories, the `grotesque' inhabitants of the secluded town of Winesburg begin to relate to a young reporter, George Willard, and open up from the confinements of their society, ...

Life: Our Century in Pictures for Young People7 reviews

Little Brown and Company, 2000

WOW
I received this book as a gift and was astonished by how great it actually is. It has so many wonderful pictures from the past 100 years and I feel that they explain every picture well enough so you can understand how in that time things were. I would suggest this to not just young people but to everyone so they can too learn more about the last century.

Peter Alden, Fred Heath, ...

Knopf, 1998

Great Book
If I could only take one field guide with me on my California hikes, this would be it. It covers a very wide range of subjects with color pictures and a concise entry. The cover is tough enough to stand up to heavy use on the trail. Highly recommended.

Best book on diabetes treatment and care.
In the 9 months since I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I've read numerous books, countless articles in magazines, tens of websites and blogs and gotten a great deal of information from doctors, dietitians, and various diabetes educators, but this is far and away the most positive, hopeful and most importantly best read of any of the books. When one is diagnosed with a chronic disease, ...
