Uncritical analysis of USA/Iraq standoff
In this book, two journalists give a vivid and well-informed picture of Iraq's recent history. They play the role of friends at court, gently warning the US government that invading Iraq would be `overplaying its hand'. Their book illustrates how international journalism produces intrusive judgements on the internal affairs of other countries, assisting imperialism to prepare its attacks on ...

In the end, there is only Hope
To paraphrase the philosopher Walter Benjamin, ?hope was given to us precisely for the sake of the hopeless.? I recall here Benjamin?s brilliant apercu because there might not be another people so utterly lacking in hope and so desperately in need of the consolations and opportunities provided by such hope as the Iraqis. These people have been fated to suffer not only the murderous clan led by ...

Fine study of a 'ruthless little b******' and failure
Investigative journalist Andrew Cockburn shows how Rumsfeld has helped to push the US state into political and military disaster. Cockburn introduces us to Rumsfeld's business career, which depended on promoting aspartame, a sweetener suspected of causing brain tumours. He swung a compliant Food and Drug Administration into approving it anyway and bought enough Senators to amend the Drug Act ...

Facinating Cloak-and-Dagger Reading
A very interesting account of the intrigue, plotting, and scheming done by the Zionists in their bid to garner U.S. political, military and economic support for Israel. Highly recommended, very well written and well researched.
Evolutionary Ecology of Marsupials (Monographs on Marsupial Biology)
Anthony K. Lee
, Andrew Cockburn
Cambridge University Press
, 2008
The ecological literature on marsupials is dominated by descriptive natural history, and there has hitherto been little attempt at either synthesis or evolutionary interpretation. This book attempts to provide such a synthesis, by drawing on both the descriptive data base and predictions from the burgeoning literature on behavioural and evolutionary ecology. It documents the excellent potential the study of marsupials provides for resolution of ...

Outdated, but a classic!
From descriptions of train tracks that are of different sizes in Russia and Poland, to tanks with 2 transmissions (both manual!), to descriptions of brutal hazing of conscripts, to "estimating" the Soviet defense budget, it's clear, from this bookm that a lot of cow-dung was passed off by conservatives as "military threat analysis." A classic!

Re: nuclear terror policy, the Emperor Has No Clothes!
Andrew and Leslie Cockburn, the Robert and Suzanne Massie of inside Washington, finally find a subject adequate to their awesome network of connections - the ludicrous and almost totally complete and completely needless lack of a nuclear terror policy in the United States Government during the Administrations of Bill Clinton and of George Bush the Elder (this is not an insult to the Bushes - ...
