The Facebook Book2 reviews
Greg Atwan, Evan Lushing

Abrams Image, 2008

Surprisingly funny and relevant
I must say, when I heard that three Harvard alumni had conspired to produce a parody of Facebook, I automatically assumed that it wouldn't be that funny, and certainly totally impertinent to the average Facebook user. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find out that the book is not only hysterical, but I imagine virtually every Facebooker can find something they can relate to in this book.

If Your Adolescent Has Depression or Bipolar Disorder: An Essential Resource for Parents (Adolescent Mental ...1 review
Dwight L. Evans, Linda Wasmer Andrews

Oxford University Press, USA, 2005

Nice Little Overview
I honestly think that there is such a vast difference between Depression and Bipolar Disorder, I think they should have just gone ahead and printed two separate books. This book is well-written and easy to read, and short. It provides a quick overview of what these illnesses are, warning signs, an overview of treatments, and getting accommodations at school. I liked the short stories from ...

Beef: The Untold Story of How Milk, Meat, and Muscle Shaped the World38 reviews
Andrew Rimas, Evan Fraser

William Morrow, 2008

Everything you ever wanted to know about cows
I already have trouble eating beef (I think of those big sad brown eyes). I just hate that it is so yummy. This book may have finished it off permanently for me. I now know more than I ever wanted to know, and I have to say I enjoyed learning it. As this book basically tells the history of the cow, with cave paintings attesting to the antiquity of our interest, leading to the modern ...

Monochrome Days: A First-Hand Account of One Teenager's Experience With Depression (Adolescent Mental Health ...1 review
Cait Irwin, Dwight L. Evans, ...

Oxford University Press, USA, 2007

She's back with details and specialists' help
First, I thank goodness that Cait Irwin, the author of Conquering the Beast Within, is back alive and well. That book is saving many lives, including mine. Cait Irwin's struggle with depression is recorded mainly by images in Conquering the Beast Within. She could leave the beast of depression abstract like that, but in Monochrome Days, she bravely reentered where her beast sleeps and detailed ...

William L. (ed.) Andrews, Tampathia Evans

The University of North Carolina Press, 2005

The autobiographies of former slaves contributed powerfully to the abolitionist movement in the United States, fanning national--even international--indignation against the evils of slavery. The four texts gathered here are all from North Carolina slaves and are among the most memorable and influential slave narratives published in the nineteenth century. The writings of Moses Roper (1838), Lunsford Lane (1842), Moses Grandy (1843), and the ...

Ashton Applewhite, Tripp Evans, ...

Thomas Dunne Books, 2003

One of the most valuable reference books I own.
One of the sharpest collections of quotations ever compiled. My only argument is with the subtitle that limits the audience to "speechmakers." This book is a treasure trove for writers as well as speakers, and I use it all the time.
