Fantastic Book
This could of been the greastest book since Mr. Bump. Its a classic that is a must read for all. Currently I am 17 years old and have read this about 42 times. I must say its still invigorating, to the point that I will explode...

Aesop's Fables (Apple Classics)4 reviews
Ann Mcgovern

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1963

Excellent Story Book!!!
In this book there are many tales that are retold by Ann McGovern. They are used to teach morals, especially to children. Some fables that are in the book are, "The Fox and the Grapes", "The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf", and "The Goose with the Golden Eggs." The morals that are portrayed in these fables have very good lessons that teach kids what not to do in the future while they are growing up. ...

If You Lived In Colonial Times (If You.)8 reviews
Ann Mcgovern

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1992

Excellent!
Of all the history on daily life, no book offers more practical insight into the daily lives of Colonists. The Bible says, "Out of the mouths of babes..." Perhaps the same is true "For the eyes/ears of babes..." Truly excellent. In all my searching through so many standard old history books, I could not find answers to the questions this book resolved. Best of all, our kids love it!

If You Lived 100 Years Ago (If You.)2 reviews
Ann Mcgovern

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1999

Wonderful book
This book was very informative and helps the young reader to know what it would have been like to live in New York City at the turn of the last century. It touched on the rich and the poor, where they lived, where they worked, how they spent their leisure time, what life was like for the children, what they wore, what they ate, etc. It conveyed a lot of information in an easy, etertaining style. ...

Ann McGovern

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1991

This book is hard to put down!
I got "If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620" for our Thanksgiving unit based on several glowing recommendations. I was not disappointed. Both my 5 yo and I had a hard stopping once we got started. I learned things about the Pilgrims I'd never known. And, the content is fascinating for children. It covered such curious topics as Did they bathe on the Mayflower?, What did they eat?, How were ...

The Secret Soldier: The Story Of Deborah Sampson (Scholastic Biography)28 reviews
Ann McGovern, Katherine Thompson

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1990

Still remembering this book 15 years after reading it
My mother originally bought this book for me in first grade because my teacher recommended that I start reading "chapter books" since I had done well on reading exams. In addition, my mother identified with the title character because they have the same name. What my mom thought would be a good introduction to more complex reading actually began (or sparked) my feminist beliefs and lifestyle. ...

Too Much Noise (Sandpiper Books)7 reviews
Ann McGovern

Houghton Mifflin, 1992

Wonderful book for discussing loud and soft sounds
As an elementary music teacher, I have found that Too Much Noise is an excellent story to read in music class when discussing dynamics (louds and softs) to first graders. After learning sound effects, i.e. "creaking","squeaking", "swish", "hiss" and animal noises, my students get swept up in the gradual crescendo of the story. The sudden quiet effect that occurs in the room when all the animals ...

Read another tale of Robin Hood
I read the book Robin Hood Of Sherwood Forest. The book was written by Ann McGovern. I really loved this book. It is the second time I have read a Robin Hood book. Lady in the Box Teaches Caring to Young Readers
This is definitely a lap and snuggle book. It's not heavy, but BIG with warm tones and autumn colors settled on the pages. The illustrator, Marni Backer, captured snowy winter scenes that immediately draw you into any large city and any large neighborhood. Could this neighborhood by yours? With each turn of the page, the traffic muffles and city bustle blurs so that you can now be introduced ...

Wanted Dead Or Alive: The True Story Of Harriet Tubman8 reviews
Ann Mcgovern

Scholastic Paperbacks, 1991

Follow the North Star to freedom!
I had this book when I was a child and I treasured it. This book introduced me to the life of Harriet Tubman, conductor on the underground railroad (she was so successful at helping people escape slavery that she had a price on her head), Civil War spy (an extremely dangerous undertaking when you consider that captured spies were executed), and servant to the poor. She instantly became my hero. ...

A Review of "The Pilgrims First Thanksgiving" by Ann McGovern
My children are 3 and 5 at this time (boy and girl) and I have been having a hard time finding a good age appropriate book about Thanksgiving. When they were younger I used "The Story of Thanksgiving" boardbook by Nancy J. Skarmeas. A book that is pretty much on target for the toddler and early preschool crowd. But what to do now? I looked at several books and none seemed to be ...
