I blame Ann Rule for making me forget all about Thomas Hardy and the 19th century and turning me to a life of crime.

So I am a bit of an alarmist, but honestly, Ann Rule's account of her friendship with Ted Bundy is riveting. Perhaps that word is overused, but it is entirely accurate to describe this story. Even if true crime is not your first literally passion, give this book a chance. Rule is magnificent.

Ann's insights on the Winkler case alone make this worth the purchase. But add into the mix the stories of several relationships gone bad, and you have a textbook of warning for women AND men. A great collection of shorter cases - not that the cases themselves are less important - but I do like this format because I can fit the reading into a busy mom's schedule.

This book was superbly written. I've read a lot of Ann Rule, and in my opinion, this was the best. There was a sick, ominious feeling throughout, because you knew it was going to get worse, but I couldn't tear myself away. I am amazed at Ms. Rule's ability to weave a story, complete with each of the many characters' backgrounds and present situations, without it seeming choppy.
