Nordermoor 1 review Arnaldur Indridason
Lübbe, 2003
"Myren" Far darker than Mankell, so depressing that it killed my standing desire to visit Iceland! Description of people and place is outstanding, but far less takes place in the mind of police inspector than in a Wallender mystery. I can only say: the author can write.
The German translation is advertised here on amazon.com. This review is based on the Norwegian translation "Myren", "The Moor".

Tainted Blood 1 review Arnaldur Indridason
Vintage Books, 2007
Jar City under a different name It would have been good to know that "Tainted Blood" was actually the novel "Jar City" before I purchased it and realized the confusion after 2 pages.

Jar City: A Reykjavik Thriller 31 reviews Arnaldur Indridason
Picador, 2005
Cold case from Reykjavik The style of Indridason's novels will appeal more to admirers of Peter Robinson than those looking for more Henning Mankell. Despite the chill nordic setting, the moody, introspective inspector Erlendur and his backstory is closer in tone to that of Robinson's Banks than that of Mankell's Wallender. In addition, Mankell's Wallender mysteries usually have an international significance, ...

Silence of the Grave (Reykjavik Murder Mysteries, No. 2) 19 reviews Arnaldur Indridason
Picador, 2007
Family Values The skeleton of a hand sticks out of the soil. Erlendur, a detective in Reykjavík, Iceland, leads a team to unearth the rest of the body which appears to have been buried for about sixty years. While the investigation goes on we are introduced, through flashbacks, to a family living in the period of WWII. This family is visited by such horrible domestic violence, that I occasionally put the book ...

The Draining Lake 1 review Arnaldur Indridason
Harvill Secker, 2007
Great stuff This is one of the best mysteries of any kind I have read in many years.
As good or better than Henning Mankell at his best. Fine plottting, great
atmosphere, and unique insights into human nature at its best and worst.
Don't miss this very fine book.

The 3 books that have been translated into English are: JAR CITY (2004), SILENCE OF THE GRAVE (2005) & VOICES (2006). Two more are scheduled for release late next year and I can hardly wait!!!

Voices: A Thriller (Reykjavik Thriller) 7 reviews Arnaldur Indridason
St. Martin's Minotaur, 2007
Third time the charm As with all good noir, the protagonist solves the crime and also solves something about himself. Building on his two earlier works, the third manages to do just that. It is easy to say, hard to do. But Indridason does it deftly, never laying it on too thick, and(unlike the first two books) manages it all with some humor. Erlendur still grieves his brother, lost due to childhood accident years ...

Silence of the Grave: A Reyjavik Murder Mystery 1 review Arnaldur Indridason
Harvill Press, 2005
Such vivid descriptions that you cannot read it in one go A corpse is found on a hill in the outskirts of Reykjavik. It looks like it has already been there for a long time, but the excavation goes terribly slow because a team of archaeologists is carrying out the work. In the meantime inspector Erlendur and his colleagues try to get a picture of what happened 50 to 70 years ago. Slowly but surely they find out the awful truth. In between the story line ...
