Compelling as ever
I fell in love with Munch Mancini in No Human Involved, and I love her still. Aside from the fact that Seranella writes with harrowing accuracy about drug addiction, her tinkerings with various engines--both human and mechanical--are never less than bang-on. This is a truly fine series.

Strange but satisfying
I didn't enjoy the 70s, and if I'd picked up earler that this story was set in 1977 urban Southern California, I probably would have given it a pass. A fortunate mistake. Not that Seranella makes me feel nostalgic. If anything, she paints a bleaker picture than I remember. An asphalt lanscape, populated with self-satisfied, bigoted Angelenos, burned out junkies, cynical cops... And yet she forces ...

Unwilling Accomplice: A Munch Mancini Crime Novel (Munch Mancini Novels)10 reviews

Scribner, 2004

A girl with a past
Munch Mancini's past is closer than it appears in the rear-view mirror. More than any other series character I've read, Munch makes me believe. Believe in her, her daughter, her relationships with men, her relationship with her addictions, everything she does rings true. She does what she can to make something of her future while constantly looking over her shoulder to see what part of her ...

Intriguing new series tragically cut too short
I enjoyed reading from the late Ms. Seranella's Munch Mancini titles. Charlotte Lyon, the main character her new projected mystery series, is likewise a resilient, flawed, but sympathetic lady. Charlotte, 33 and a widow, operates a crisis management consultant business in California. She's good at what she does, and commands top dollar doing it. In this case, Charlotte is hired by Sun Rail ...

Blackstone Audiobooks, 2006

A POWERFUL MYSTERY SUPERBLY READ
Those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Miranda "Munch" Mancini are in for a treat and a surprise. She's nothing like the conventional female crime fighters; in fact, she's not very much like a "conventional" gal at all. She's a recovered drug addict and prostitute who now makes her living as an auto mechanic and limo driver. And, in the hands of Barbara Seranella, a writer with a gift for ...

Unfinished Business7 reviews

Munch is back and better than ever
Munch Mancini is back and stronger than ever. She has a quiet, efficient, hard-earned calm about her these days. This fourth adventure left me breathless. Not from a quick, tremendous climax but from a buildup of action from the first pages of the book. Slowly the tension of figuring out a case that tied in to multiple cases and who did it and why fueled the pages of this expertly written ...
