Rescue Josh Mcguire, The 11 reviews Ben Mikaelsen
Hyperion Book CH, 1999
Review of Rescue Josh McGuier I am a boy that is the same age as Josh and lives in Idaho. I can identify with the main character and the background of this book that takes place in and near Bozeman, Montana. It is a great book if you want to take an adventure in the mountains of the west with a bear cub and a dog. This book shows how a boy my age, has the potential to change an old hunting law that states that hunting bears ...

Countdown 7 reviews Ben Mikaelsen
Hyperion Book CH, 1997
My 7th graders love this book, so do I! I have used this book with my 7th graders for the last two years and I have had good results with my students. I stopped another book we were reading as a class right after September 11, 2001 and had my classes read this book. There are many great lessons in this book. The two boys are from different cultures, have different Gods, and different cultural beliefs. I used these topics to lead many ...

Touching Spirit Bear 9 reviews Ben Mikaelsen
Scholastic, 2002
a good book Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen, is a good book. The story is about this kid, named Cole, who lived in Minnesota and gets in trouble by beating this kid up. They sent him to Alaska to see if he would change and he saw the spirit bear there. In my opinion, it was excellent because its about this kid who saw the spirit bear and how his life changed because of getting in trouble. In the ...

Ghost of Spirit Bear 2 reviews Ben Mikaelsen
HarperCollins, 2008
Ghost of Spirit Bear This wasn't as good as Touching Spirit Bear, so I was a little disappointed. I am an 8th grade teacher & I read Touching Spirit Bear to my classes every year & every year they are on the edge of their seats. They love the gore & the message about healing & trying to break a cycle (of abuse). I am afraid they won't find this one as appealing or riveting.

Tree Girl 7 reviews Ben Mikaelsen
HarperTeen, 2005
True Story from Guatemala This is a compelling story of a girl who loses most of her family to the brutality of soldiers. She then witnesses the murder of an entire Guatemalan village, and decides to make her way to a refugee camp in Mexico.
I always enjoy Ben Mikaelsen's work, but this story was especially captivating.
