It's A Magical World: A Calvin and Hobbes Collection74 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1996

Life
I love this book. Calvin and Hobbes have much to say about living and life. I keep a copy of this book around always. I think this is the best of the series. The last couple pages are worth the price of purchase. A snowy hillside with Calvin and Hobbes on a sled looking down at an unmarked field of snow. I give this to friends who are moving on with their lives, as a hope for their future. "It's ...

Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat: A Calvin and Hobbes Collection48 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1994

Classic Calvin and Hobbes
This collection has a few of my favorites in it (especially the girls/bugs analogy - priceless!) Great for any age - I read C&H starting around age 7 and I still read it today! I enjoy it just as much, though I see it from a unique perspective now. Every kid should grow up with this.

The Essential Calvin and Hobbes42 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1988

ONE OF THE BEST!
This calvin and hobbes collection is one of my favorites. I own every single one, but this one is better to me because it has more Sunday comics in it. The adventures, the fun, the snow, the beach...Bill Watterson shouldn't have quit. 5 Stars

Yukon Ho!20 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1989

Yet more genius
You can always rely on Calvin and Hobbes to deliver the funnies. And if you're a keen reader, Calvin's unique (if rather skewed) perception of the world with keep the kid inside you alive (I don't mean this literally but as a metaphor). Unless you've been horribley deprived you'll pretty much all remember the magic of a snow storm or a sunset while sitting under a tree or an adventure in the ...

Scientific Progress Goes 'Boink': A Calvin and Hobbes Collection28 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1991

Hysterical and bittersweet
When you get right down to it, is there anything better than Calvin & Hobbes? In this compilation or any of the others, you get lessons in quantum physics, nostalgic looks at the agony of grade school, observations in human nature, and a bit of the "thing under the bed" style horror. All this and you'll laugh yourself to the point of wetting your pants. The Calvin & Hobbes strips are hysterical. ...

Weirdos from Another Planet!21 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews and McMeel Publishing, 1990

One of my favorites
I love all Calvin and Hobbes books, but this collection has a few of my favorites that never cease to make me laugh out loud, including: "The Disembodied Hand That Strangled People" (I snicker just writing it) The trip to Mars ("We're going in the wagon?" "Of course! What did YOU want to do? Flap your arms?" "I guess I hadn't thought about that part." "Obviously."

Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons73 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1992

The Perfect Way To Enjoy Calvin And Hobbes
I suppose this could apply to any Calvin and Hobbes collection (not just Attack of the Deranged..., but let me share my favorite way to read Calvin and Hobbes. If possible, I like to pick a rainy Saturday or Sunday. I'm usually already bored and wandering around the cold house. I catch sight of a Calvin and Hobbes book and read a few pages, but my fingers are cold and I can't concentrate. ...

The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book35 reviews
Bill Watterson

Time Warner Paperbacks, 1995

The beginning of a wonderful adventure...
Forgive me if my review runs a bit on the sappy side, but I grew up with Calvin and Hobbes, and I sometimes think they are among the best friends I've ever had. Bill Watterson's comic is gentle, sincere, and magical. At its core it is an examination of what it means to be human, and the value of friendship. Watterson's philosophy of the comic strip was that it should be based around characters ...

"I've tried to return some of the fun, magic, and beauty I've enjoyed in other comics. "
"I've always loved cartoons. With 'Calvin and Hobbes', I've tried to return some of the fun, magic, and beauty I've enjoyed in other comics. It's been immensely satisfying to draw 'Calvin and Hobbes', and I will always be grateful to have had the opportunity to work in this wonderful art form." (p. 208) This book allows us to see the man behind the pen. This collection is a selection of what ...

The Revenge of the Baby-Sat24 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1991

"Give me liberty or give me death, Zogwarg Queen!"
No matter how many times I read them, I can never get tired of Calvin and Hobbes. They're funny, creative, and are always getting into some sort of hijinx that could just about get them grounded for life. "The Revenge of the Baby-Sat" offers such adventures as that in a funny and entertaining way. Calvin is always getting into trouble. Him and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes, are always faced with ...

The Authoritative Calvin And Hobbes (Calvin and Hobbes)35 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1990

A walk through someone else's imagination
Calvin is a beam of light, a dinosaur, Spaceman Spiff, a pollster on the election of new parents, a robotic explorer from Jupiter (in search of chocoloate) -- well lots of things. He's all the best and all the worst a boy about five can be, and that covers a lot of ground. If the others around him never quite see things Calvin's way, that's really not his problem. Hobbes will always ...

The Indispensable Calvin And Hobbes53 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1992

an epic, great modern day comic strip parable .........
I could relate to Calvin and Hobbes, from the moment I first started following the adventures of the devilish, eternal six year old (Calvin) and his scruffy, stuffed pal tiger (Hobbes). Though, many of the plots appear simplistic (example: Calvin makes a mess and his mother yells at him!), there is so much more to the little strips than meets the eye. For starters, Calvin and Hobbes ponders ...

Something Under the Bed Is Drooling22 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1988

A vicarious return to childhood
What can be said about Calvin & Hobbes that hasn't already been shouted to the heavens by legions of prematurely grown-up fans ? Calvin is the eternal Child/Id within us all, and Hobbes is his stuffed tiger / best friend / faithful companion in arms come-to-life ... and together they swashbuckle their way through a childhood world populated with drooling monsters of the imagination, screaming ...

The Days are Just Packed: A Calvin and Hobbes Collection43 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 1993

Calling Spaceman Spiff
There is little you can say about a Calvin and Hobbes book. As with the other books in this series, it is very funny, insightful of people and children, and something that I seem to be able to read over and over. Bill Waterson brings a perspective on humans that is as unique as Gary Larson's perspectives, only his viewpoint surrounds our "hero," Calvin. The long-suffering Hobbes (a tiger, ...

The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book: A Collection of Sunday Calvin and Hobbes Cartoons31 reviews
Bill Watterson

Scholastic, 1997

Calvin the imaginative
This collection takes place mostly in summer/fall and the theme is around lazy days and Sundays as well. My favourite panel in this collection is when Susie and Calvin are playing house and begins: S: "Darlinggg, I'm home! And I brought a surprise!" C: "Let's hope it's a divorce!" I still go off into spurts of laughter at that one... **LOL** Enjoy (in full page and full colour) the adventures of ...

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes (Calvin & Hobbes)308 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2005

When cartoons grew up.
I just got back from my post office here in Oslo Norway. The little woman who went back to get this package for me looked less than thrilled. This is HEAVY! Well, anyhow, I just had my first look at this and it's stunning. Calvin and Hobbes deserve no less. 1987. It's been that many years since I was in Denmark on holiday and bought my first volume of Calvin and Hobbes? (Steen & Stoffer in ...

Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-199529 reviews
Bill Watterson

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2001

Insightful looks at classic sunday strips
Calvin & Hobbes was much more than a really good newspaper comic strip. Created by Bill Watterson, Calvin & Hobbes will be hailed among the greatest ever created, right alongside Peanuts and Krazy Kat for its creativity, scope of influence and the enjoyment it offered the reader. It was a strip capable of being all things gleeful and all things sad, all things goofy and all things serious. Bill ...
