The Exorcist3 reviews
Bob McCabe

Omnibus Press, 1999

excellent reading
If one has studied true demonology, then you will know it's pretty well right on the mark. From the start of the Ouija board, giving the demon recognition and permission, to the opression then possession. This is truly terrifying and almost true to life read. This book was based on an actual possession and excorcisim of a 12 year old boy in Maryland. I would recommend leaving the lights on ...

The Life of Graham: The Authorised Biography of Graham Chapman2 reviews
Bob McCabe

Orion Publishing, 2007

Interesting story, just not well written
I found this book interesting as I did not know may of the details behind his life or the story behind the pythons but I did find the style quite distracting. The author uses a lot of direct quotes from other people which sometimes go on for pages. It was also difficult to follow sometimes who the quotes were from. Graham Chapman's life story is interesting with lots more to it than just Monty ...

The Rough Guide to Comedy Movies 1 (Rough Guide Reference)3 reviews
Bob McCabe

Rough Guides, 2005

Decent (if not very objective) reference
I suppose an argument can be made for other genres as well, but I've always thought the comedy film doesn't get the respect it deserves. For examples, when they're handing out Oscars, comedies rarely get Best Picture; the last one to win was Shakespeare in Love, and even that was an atypical comedy because it was also a period piece. I think the last straight comedy to win was Annie Hall nearly ...

The Pythons: Autobiography28 reviews
The Pythons, Graham Chapman, ...

St. Martin's Griffin, 2005

depressing
This is probably the most accurate history of the Monty Python television program and films. It reveals the impressing background of the players and their problems in working together which resulted in their dispersing and ill will with each other.

Dreams and Nightmares: Terry Gilliam, The Brothers Grimm, & Other Cautionary Tales of Hollywood1 review
Bob McCabe

HarperCollins UK, 2006

A surprisingly unsympathetic look at my favorite director
The surprising thing to me about this diary of the making of The Brothers Grimm is that my sympathies were not wholly with the nominal director, Terry Gilliam. He is my favorite director and I have felt steadfastly in his corner during his fights over Brazil, Munchausen, and the aborted "Quixote". But here, it is hard to see him as heroic. Time after time when reading this admirably ...

Sean Connery: A Biography1 review
Bob McCabe

Da Capo Press, 2001

Extremely enjoyable reading a "must" for all Connery fans!
Sean Connery: A Biography is an exciting presentation of the actor and his life's work on the silver screen, including but not limited to his famous portrayal of James Bond 007. Black-and-white photographs, as well as a few color photographs illustrate virtually every two-page spread of this lavish celebration. The text by biographer Bob McCabe is relatively simple and straightforward, and offers ...

Dark Knights and Holy Fools: Art and Films of Terry Gilliam7 reviews
Bob McCabe

Orion (an Imprint of The Orion Publishing Group Ltd ), 1999

Great Gilliam companion!
This is the perfect book for Terry Gilliam fans. It traces his history as an animator and director through the early years, into the Monty Python legacy and all the way to his feature films. This book is filled with color pictures from all of his projects, and even discusses some of the projects that never got off the ground. Very informative, but dated as this book came out right after the ...

The Pythons' Autobiography By The Pythons3 reviews
Michael Palin, Terry Jones, ...

Orion mass market paperback, 2005

And now for something completely not funny, yet indispensible.
...but that's not a bad thing (explanation below). I got this book for Christmas and was concerned that because of it's size I would probably end up just thumbing through and reading select parts. Not the case. I started reading it and couldn't stop. It covers the group and individuals from their pre-Python lives through discussions of working together again after The Live at Aspen event ...

The Authorised Biography Of Ronnie Barker
Bob Mccabe

BBC Books, 2007

Ronnie Barker is one of the best-loved and most celebrated entertainers in British television history. As well as starring in the ever popular and critically acclaimed sitcoms "Porridge" and "Open All Hours", he was, of course, one of the bespectacled Two Ronnies, who topped the TV Charts for more than 15 years. This book contains original contributions from people who have worked with and know him best including John Cleese, David Jason, David ...
