Exciting eighties action
I'm amazed it took me so long to find this; I vaguely remember this story from the mid '80s. With the success of Iron Man's 1st hit movie, I've been interested in reading defining stories for the character, and this paperback in particular represents one of the best I've seen to date. Highlights here for me... *Issue 225- Stark Wars! This 1st great issue sets up the entire storyline nicely. ...

Lots of quirky, interesting content
First of all, you know that when you see the word "appliance" in this context, you should think more like a router or alarm system (the book uses this as a development framework), not a refrigerator, say. [Although (shudder!) the latter could be a sweet example in the near future.] And, before I write another word I should state upfront: I was a technical reviewer of this book. I found lots ...

Beautiful Pass Through Another Life
This memoir is incredibly heart felt, sensitive and beautiful. Interspersed with Shakespeare's words, and Smith's experiences sharing them with New York City's oldest people, as well as his experience with Shakespeare on stage is a pained and moving life. This is a remarkable book for anyone who identifies with the social/communal feel of life in the theatre, or artists for that matter. As well, ...

Texas Culinary Explosion
Terry Thompson-Anderson has produced a marvelous collection of Texas recipes, beautiful photos of food and scenery from around the Lone Star state, and a wonderful contribution to the exciting new Texas cuisine that is sweeping the southwest and beyond. As a native Texan I found the book not only a delight to the eyes, but a wondrous and far-ranging assortment of recipes with ingredients and ...

A Beach Novel From Alaska
Much of Bob Smith's novel SELFISH & PERVERSE is set in and around Anchorage, Alaska, where there is no IKEA store, enough to make me want to move there. The narrator is Nelson Kunker, from Los Angeles, who is stalled on a novel he has been writing for far too long. He meets Roy Briggs, a fisherman/archeology student from Alaska. They ride off into the Alaskan sunset but not quite. A ...

Valuable Resource
When I was in high school I got the first edition of the excellent book. Now as a college student I picked up the second edition and it is as good, if not better than, the first edition. Like the old edition it is still divided into two parts. The first part is a strategy guide with lots of useful tips for finding scholarships, writing your application, negotiating for financial aid, and even ...

Big Plans, Big Laughs
Bob Shea and Lane Smith are a dynamic duo. This book is truly a unique gem amongst the slew of children's books published a year. It is always a wonder when I can find a book that a parent is going to enjoy as much as the child. This book is brilliant and hilarious and a GREAT choice for a read aloud storytime. One of my favorites, second only to Bob's first book "New Socks!"

Iron Man
Any fan of Iron Man, espescially the classic stories, will enjoy this book. I highly recomend it. It is actually a collection of stories featuring the Deep-Sea Armor, Stealth Armor, etc... In my opinion the multi-part story featuring the Space Armor is worth the price of admission alone.

Captain Bob has a definite insight into the hiring process!
Captain Bob has written a book that will help anybody that is serious about getting a firefighter job. I find it ironic that a person would want the easy "answers" to any oral board questions, as this is exactly the opposite of what his program is about. He arms a candidate with good information and lets them develop their own answers with "nuggets" from their life experiences. I have followed ...

well, it actually does come to a conclusion...
I just wanted to make the comment that it DOES come to a conclusion of sorts, just not the one one would expect. Basically, the character takes on an impossible mission--going into the Rift, and pays the consequences, so basically any decision you make, you will end up dead (even at the end, apparantly, as you are trapped and about to die). I read this book years and years ago, and was trying ...

Laughing out loud in the privacy of your home.
No matter what, no matter when, no matter how often I read this book, I laugh every time. I've read each book from Bob Smith at least 5 times, and I am enlightened, humored and tickled every time I (re)read them. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes reading autobiographical humor, especially if you've ever thought your life was funny enough to publish.

Loved it!
What makes a good author, in my opinion, is his or her ability to capture the human condition in such a way that it comes across as real. What makes a good comedian, again in my opinion, is to take slices of ordinary life and see the humor in them. Mr. Smith is clearly capable in both areas. While he's not the only person (let alone gay one) to see a relationship end, his ability to harness all ...

The Holy Grail
I coached a camp this past summer in which a few coaches were discussing this book and referred to it as "The Holy Grail" of basketball books. To any coach looking for new perspectives and strategies, I would strongly recommend this book. You may not be able to use everything, and some of the information is a bit dated, but it prompted a million ideas of my own, and helped me plan out some fresh ...

A great adventure book
This book is a great example of the "Choose Your Own Adventure"-type books, although it is definitely targeted to a more mature reader. The illustrations are lavish and full, and the storyline is very engrossing. I spent countless hours with this book when I was younger, and it is a shame the series is no longer in print.

This book gets an undeserved bad rap
This book has been pummelled by reviewers who hate Curt Smith's writing style. Granted, sometimes he writes like someone in a mental hospital stitching phrases together in bursts. Other times he writes like your buddy telling stories in a bar. Because of the huge scope of content (ie. the entire history of baseball told via a tour of its ballparks), this clipped style works. At over 500 ...

The photographs of the PCT by Bart Smith will take your breath away. I've section hiked long parts of the PCT and the sheer beauty of certain parts is etched in my mind forever. DLL and COM chapters are great
This book is fantastic. You do not need any other book for Builder 6. I was having problems with DLL and COM programming, but this book stepped me right through it. It is easy to understand and has very good examples. The CD includes a copy of the developer's guide for Builder 5 so it is great for people making the transition from 5 to 6.

Fine for what it is.
I bought this hoping it would describe traditional treadle lathes, but it is in fact a very clear and practical set of instructions for welding up a steel treadle lathe. The lathe would probably work just fine, and should be worth the effort. Intended for third world outreach programs or missionary efforts to enable people to have a lathe that doesn't require electricity. Like I said, entirely ...
