Asperger Syndrome And Difficult Moments: Practical Solutions For Tantrums, Rage And Meltdowns50 reviews
Brenda Smith Myles, Jack Southwick

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2005

A must read for parents and teachers
As a parent with two boys with AS and two girls with anxiety this is one of the most insightful and supportive books about managing rage and meltdowns I have ever read. Had it been available years ago I doubt things would have gone so badly with my children in school. It provides guidance for teachers and includes issues about unhelpful teaching interventions in very practical terms.

The Hidden Curriculum: Practical Solutions for Understanding Unstated Rules in Social Situations8 reviews
Brenda Smith Myles, Melissa L. Trautman, ...

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2004

This is the one
As an "inclusion" third grade teacher, this is the most practical book on the subject of helping young people develop better social skills that I've read. (And I've read quite a few.) It has valuable information for all students, not just Autistic Spectrum Disorder kids. Clear and simple background and discussion on the issue, followed by lists of social mores that kids might not naturally "pick ...

Perfect Targets: Asperger Syndrome and Bullying--Practical Solutions for Surviving the Social World8 reviews
Rebekah Heinrichs, Brenda Smith Myles

Autism Asperger Publishing Co., 2003

This is a MUST HAVE if you have a child with Asperger's
Rebekah Heinrichs nails this bullying and asperger's. It's truly well written and the IEP goals, student surveys, countless stories that I kept knodding to all make this book a must have. We didn't have ANY goals last year on bullying. Who would have thought you could? We got through all the educational goals including PT, OT, Speech but never did I think of bullying. I didn't think we'd have to ...

Asperger Syndrome and Adolescence: Practical Solutions for School Success11 reviews
Brenda Smith Myles, Diane Adreon

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2001

Finally a book about academics in the adolescent years ! !
This book focuses specifically on academic issues of children with Asperger's in middle and high school. There are many other books about other aspects of Aspergers, but this is the only good book I have found on this specific topic. Diane has a great understanding of the difficulties faced by child aspies who on the surface may be getting "good grades" but are failing in many other ...

Elisa Ganon, Brenda Smith Myles

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 1999

This book is a GREAT way to explain Asperger Syndrome
This book explains Asperger Syndrome is a very simple way for adults and children. I have a 5 year old son with Asperger and I showed this book to his grandparents, my friends and his after-school care takers. After they read it, they finaly understood all the information that I had tried to explain to them before. Plus there were some things in there that I didn't realise were related to ...

Hidden Curriculum 2008 Calendar: Items for Understanding Unstated Rules in Social Situations4 reviews
Brenda Smith Myles, Megan Duncan

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2007

The Perfect Gift!!
The Hidden Curriculum are all the unstated cultural rules that "everybody knows" but no one tells you. It can include such things as social expecations, idioms and slang. I've heard one of the authors of this calendar, world-renowned autism expert, Dr. Brenda Smith Myles, say that it's like the knowledge that drops out of the sky and hits the "cool" kids, but misses our kids on the spectrum. ...

What a great starter book!
I am a mother to a six year old boy just diagnosed with Very mild aspergers syndrome in December 2007.This book was recommended to me by autismnotes.com forums. What the doctor didn't explain to me this book did. And it was explained in very easy terms to understand I found myself exclaiming "so that's why he does that!" over and over again, it's wonderful. If you are an educator or have a child ...

Autism Spectrum Disorders [Two Volumes]: A Handbook for Parents and Professionals2 reviews

Praeger Publishers, 2007

Price not editors/authors fault
First, I agree the set is outrageously priced. However, the content of these books is EXCELLENT because the editors worked very hard on this project. I know them and they have dedicated their lives to helping children and families with autism--including MY family. No one was more shocked at the price of this two volume set than they were. I was also a contributor. Note: neither myself nor any ...

Asperger's Syndrome and Sensory Issues: Practical Solutions for Making Sense of the World6 reviews
Brenda Smith Myles, Katherine Tapscott Cook, ...

Autism Asperger Publishing Company, 2002

Informative and entertaining in equal measures
This book brings a much more detailed perspective on early adult life on the autistic spectrum than many others. The fact that it is looking at AS through a man's eyes is also worth noting. The author touchs on career choice issues that many with AS have agonised over. To disclose or not to disclose being the Big Question. I won't spoil your reading by recounting the author's experiences. The ...

WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE ME
I bought this book so that my 9 year old son could read it. He does not have autism but I do. I want him to be able to try to understand what it was like for me when I was a little girl. My son and I both enjoyed reading this book. This book "When My Autism Gets Too Big!" gave my son just enough information to start learning more about what it is like to have autism.
