Frank Herbert's Dune ended with Paul Muad’Dib in control of the planet Dune. Herbert’s next Dune book, Dune Messiah , picked up the story several years later after Paul’s armies had conquered the galaxy. But what happened between Dune and Dune Messiah ? How did Paul create his empire and become the Messiah? Following in the footsteps of Frank Herbert, New York Times bestselling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. ...

Dune Wisdom
This book puts the nuggets of wisdom in Frank Herbert's Dune series all in one place. Compiled in a thin, paperback book, you won't have to search for the "litany against fear" or other wise sayings. Chock full of life truths and insights into human behavior, it's best taken a quote at a time, digested with a bit of thought afterward.

A grand conclusion
This section of the the pre-dune set really ties things together well and keeps you involved in everything leading up to Frank's original book. I couldn't put it down.

Good Detail
This book has good detail and is a great continuation of the Dune saga, but in reverse since it is Prequel in nature. I think this does the magnificent world of Dune justice because it is so rich in detail and the plots//premises are so interesting. This particular installment of the new series is focused on the Atreides family but we still learn a lot about other Dune factors such as the ...

Fantastic!
Thank you, thank you. I've read all of the Dune books...the prequels and the sequels won't disappoint the Dune fan. They are well-written, thoughtful, fit in well with the original stories (how Herbert and Andersen pulled that off I'll never know). I'll never forget the day I heard Frank Herbert died...even though I didn't know him, I was truly saddened -- for selfish reasons: I thought there ...

Good Summer Read
I must admit that I'm not even CLOSE to finishing this fine book but what I have read of it I do like. Brian has taken up the mantle of his famous father and been able to cope with the inevitable comparisons between the two styles of writing. Both are fine authors in their own right, I recommend any of these books in the continuing Dune universe.

Hunters of Dune
I have enjoyed all of these books by Kevin and Brian immensely. In fact, I find it harder to set these down than the original novels (definitely read the pre Dune Jihad Battle novels before these, they tie together nicely that way). They have rekindled my interest in the original novels. After Paul of Dune I am going to reread the originals to further enhance my overall Dune experience.

The Legend of Dune Series Continues...
As with the other books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, I believe this book is judged harshly based solely on the fact that Frank Herbert didn't rise from the dead and pen it himself. That aside, this novel is an excellent addition to the dune universe. This novel continues where The Butlerian Jihad leave off and is quite entertaining. Dispite being the middle book in a trilogy, this ...

Father and Son Team
I really enjoyed this book. You can't really identify which author did which sections, but the format and style is that of Frank's other works. This book had a great story line with a mix of emotions. This work isn't like the Dune books in its content, but is still very intuiging for the other twists, turns, and emotions that come out of it. You can definately find yourself relating to the ...

UNREWARDED LOYALTY
In the Introduction, the author, Brian Herbert, writes "Under precarious conditions these merchant seamen performed extraordinary acts of bravery, they were the lifeline of the Allied forces, making victory not only possible, but inevitable." In a strict sense they were not members of the armed forces. However, in World War II, the Merchant Marine suffered 8,380 battle deaths or 3.899 % ...

Thank you Brian
I am 3/4's through this book and I find it a facinating read. I am the type of person who enjoys reading or hearing stories about the lives of people anyway, but to read about one of my favorite authors brings insights into his work as well as the trials and bumps in the road that brought him to the creation of his novel Dune and beyond. I am thankful that Brian took the time to "keep notes" ...

Nascent stories woven together make fascinating reading.
What would it be like to converse with and fight with machines that can think? Can a robot learn to appreciate art? This book did a splendid job of exploring those subjects and of course much more. This is the story of the known universe over 10.000 years before "Dune". The characters and sometimes families, are the seeds of what we find later in the Dune series. This is the first book of what ...
