The West: Encounters and Transformations, Atlas Edition, Volume 2 (since 1550) (2nd Edition)1 review
Brian Levack, Edward Muir, ...

Longman, 2007

not sure about this "Atlas" idea
For reasons that are not entirely clear to me, this book seems to be positioned to emphasise geography as much as history. To this ends, the authors call it an "Atlas edition", and declaim that it has 30 additional maps, compared to an earlier version. Well, for whatever reason, it certainly is a pleasure to read. Maybe you can just treat it as a history book, that is well illustrated. ...

Fantastic textbook
This textbook is not only written in a conversational tone which holds the reader's attention, but it brings in art, personalities of historical figures, and other tidbits to enhance a student's learning experience. The illustrations used are fantastic and can spur students to delve further into many subjects. History should be exciting as evidenced by this book!

The Witchcraft Sourcebook1 review
Brian Levack

Routledge, 2003

A great tool and reference book
If you are considering Levack's Sourcebook, then chances are you already know something about witchcraft. This collection of documents ranges from classical antiquity to the twentieth century, although most documents fall in the early modern period and the great age of witch hunts. The documents are well chosen and edited. This is good stuff, and Levack hits the highlights such as the Canon ...

The West: Encounters & Transformations, Combined Volume (2nd Edition) (MyHistoryLab Series)1 review
Brian Levack, Edward Muir, ...

Longman, 2006

Extremely disappointing
Too much of the editors' personal beliefs are reflected in this extremely shallow and disappointing book. I tossed the book in the trash after looking through it, which is something that I'd never done before with a book.

The Witch-Hunt in Early Modern Europe6 reviews
Brian P. Levack, Brian Levack

Longman Publishing Group, 1987

Best Summary of Modern Research
During the 70's and 80's, a flood of new information on historical witchcraft became available. Levack's book is the best survey of this new data, which has revolutionized our understanding of the Great Hunt. It's not a very "daring" book; it sticks to the facts, to the things we're sure about. There isn't a lot of speculation in it. But it's a great antidote to the badly researched ...

Witchcraft and Magic in Europe, Volume 5 (History of Witchcraft and Magic in Europe)2 reviews
Marijke Gijswijt-Hofstra, Brian Levack, ...

Athlone Press, 2001

Objective Study
This book is one in an excellent continuing series of "Witchcraft and Magic in Europe". This entry in the series concerns the history and practice of European witchcraft and magic in the 20th century,(and the book is focused on Europe and particularly Britain. There is only scant information on witchcraft and magic in North America). This is a refreshing objective study which approaches the ...

Witch Hunting in Scotland: Law, Politics and Religion
Brian Levack

Brian P. Levack draws on law, politics and religion to explain the intensity of Scottish witch-hunting. Topics discussed ...
