Finally, a great way to teach children about the environment!
Wow - this book was a big surprise. It was something that my kids had picked out at the library, and now we are planning to buy our own copy. With it's main character, Slobosaurus, showing children (and adults too) how we take our environment for granted, the lessons of the simple ways to correct this are great for children ages 4-8 (and even up through adults). Kids learn everything from not ...
Renormalization: From Lorentz to Landau (and Beyond)
Springer
, 1994
The essays in this book, by L.M. Brown, M. Dresden, R.S. Mills, S.S. Schweber, T.Y. Cao, and D.V. Shirkov, discuss the history of renormalization theory from the late 19th century to the 1950s and the effect it has had not only on the development of field theory, but also on our ideas of what is a fundamental and what is a phenomenological theory.

Pure Feynman - a real joy
I did a course on quantum theory in the 1970s with John Ward who was recommended for the Nobel Prize in 1965 (Feynman, Schwinger and Tomogana shared it). Those close to the action will know of Ward's Identity. John (died in 2002 from memory) used Feynman's lectures as his course notes. I must confess a soft spot for Feynman. I would have loved to have been in his lectures (buy his audio ...

Divorce as Loss - a Helpful Book
This is a realistic book for children going through change and loss - this time the divorce of their parents. With no story line but grouped into subjects, readers can utilize as much or as little as needed each time the book is explored. Having personally experienced a divorce with children involved, I like how all aspects of divorce (why divorce, two homes, telling friends, stepparents) are ...

Birds + Bees + Kids Pick!
A great book for kids 5 and under, it covers the basic information kids need to know about how babies are made, okay/not okay touches and families. Its fun cartoon illustrations make it an engaging read for the preschool set. I love the drawings of naked boys and girls that show how we are alike and different. At this age, kids are very curious about body parts, both public and private, and ...

Healthy Book Review
My seven year old daughter loves this book she is using it as her guide to get her "honey" (my husband) into shape. She has walked around holding it fussing at her father since I read it to her at bedtime. She reads passages to him and leaves notes in the refrigerator and pantry for him.

One of the best
I checked out many books at the library that attempt to explain death to a 5 yr old. "When Dinosaurs Die" is the only one I felt covered everything I wanted my son to know and it did it in a positive way. It is the only book I ended up actually purchasing.

Sensual and Humorous
A wonderful afternoon's reading. The author weaves multiple characters and plot twists into a story that is hard to put down. I should add a caution that the main love scene is not for the faint of heart. I found myself reading parts of the book again( and again) to be sure I didn't miss anything. I look forward to reading the next book from this author! 9/04/2003 The Truth About Cassandra sold ...

Anyone who has followed Feynman should read this
Fascinating and insiteful lectures from many of the great people in the world of physics. Amusing anecdotes, touching tributes, and glimpses into the private life of a genius who was also extremely human and persevered through very painful personal problems to help create the atomic bomb while his wife was seriously ill, yet keeping his spirits up and his sense of humor. Never a person to rest ...

In this book of sixty black-and-white panoramas, photographer Laurie Brown documents the changing landscape along the western edge of Southern California. These stark, compelling images reveal a world scraped and reshaped by construction equipment -- boulders pushed aside, stretches of earth flattened and then measured with surveyor sticks. High-tech housing developments rise in these places, lines of identical homes that simultaneously offer a ...

essays from key authors of Standard Model
While the essays perhaps strive to reach a wide audience, the reality is that the typical reader will likely be a physicist or student of science history. If this fits your background, then the book is indeed an informative account of how the so-called Standard Model arose. Much of the book's value is that several authors were key participants in the development of the Standard Model. ...

Over the years that I have been doing my television show, I have had at least 20 guests insist that they wanted to use the teleprompter. I wish I could have handed them this book and said read this and then come back. The use ...
