Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs97 reviews
Bryan Peterson

Amphoto, 1995

Tells you everything you need to know
In Understanding Exposure, Bryan Peterson thoroughly explains what he sets out to explain: how aperture, shutter speed, and film affect the images you take. I've read many other explanations of aperture and shutter speed, but never has it made such perfect sense to me as it did after reading Peterson's book.

Using Design Basics to Get Creative Results3 reviews
Bryan Peterson

North Light Books, 1996

12 years in the trade and I refer to this book frequently
The cover of this book could have employed design basics to get creative results, but the interior makes up for it. Its generous amount of fundmental information is nicely laid out in an uncomplicated and easy to use format. Mostly, I am disappointed with graphic design how-to books. They tend to be ambiguously narrated "portfolios" of high-profile designers with magnificant clients; as if ...

Understanding Digital Photography: Techniques for Getting Great Pictures29 reviews
Bryan Peterson

Amphoto Books, 2005

Great book for Digital photography.
I read another Bryan Peterson book, and after finishing it, I immeidately ordered this book. For one, I like his writing style. It is not stuffy, as a matter of fact, it is kind of fun. I WILL admit, there were a few times he took it a little over-board in this book, but ultimately, that doesn't detract from such a well-written book. This book is very good at taking us through digital ...

People in Focus: How to Photograph Anyone, Anywhere4 reviews
Bryan Peterson

Amphoto Books, 1993

A comprehensive course
This may be the only book you'll ever need to read on the subject of photographing people outside of the formal portrait studio. This is a blessing, because very few books, good or bad, are available on this very important subject to amateurs and professional photojournalists. Peterson covers every aspect of taking pictures of people, including selecting subjects to photograph, approaching ...

Richard Strauss: New Perspectives on the Composer and His Work (Sources of Music & Their Interpretation)

Duke University Press, 1998

As we approach the fiftieth anniversary of Richard Stauss’s death, scholarly interest in the composer continues to grow. Despite what was once a tendency by musicologists to overlook or deny Strauss’s importance, these essays firmly place the German composer in the musical mainstream and situate him among the most influential composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Originally published in 1992, this volume ...

Photographing Oregon3 reviews
Bryan Peterson

Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company, 1984

Good overview
This book gives you a good overview for getting professional results for photographing the Oregon scenery. Though the book was written before the digital camera boom there is still much that can been gleaned from a couple of readings of the material.
